During 1969 and 1970, CCR was dismissed by hipsters as a bubblegum pop band and the sniping had grown intolerable, at least to John Fogerty, who designed Pendulum as a rebuke to critics. He spent time polishing the production, bringing in keyboards, horns, even a vocal choir. His songs became self-consciously serious and tighter, working with the aesthetic of the rock underground -- Pendulum was constructed as a proper album, contrasting dramatically with CCR's previous records, all throwbacks to joyous early rock records where covers sat nicely next to hits and overlooked gems tucked away at the end of the second side. To some fans of classic CCR, this approach may feel a little odd since only "Have You Ever Seen the Rain" and maybe its B-side "Hey Tonight" sound undeniably like prime Creedence. But, given time, the album is a real grower, revealing many overlooked Fogerty gems. Yes, it isn't transcendent like the albums they made from Bayou Country through Cosmo's Factory, but most bands never even come close to that kind of hot streak. Instead, Pendulum finds a first-class songwriter and craftsman pushing himself and his band to try new sounds, styles, and textures. His ambition results in a stumble -- "Rude Awakening 2" portentously teeters on the verge of prog-rock, something CCR just can't pull off -- but the rest of the record is excellent, with such great numbers as the bluesy groove "Pagan Baby," the soulful vamp "Chameleon," the moody "It's Just a Thought," and the raver "Molina." Most bands would kill for this to be their best stuff, and the fact that it's tucked away on an album that even some fans forget illustrates what a tremendous band Creedence Clearwater Revival was.

What precipitated this note is that there are new James Guthrie Stereo and 5.1 mixes of the Pink Floyd album Animals, 1977. These mixes have languished unreleased because of a dispute over some sleeve notes that Mark Blake has written for this new release.

After years of quiet conflict, David Gilmour and Roger Waters have finally agreed on a release plan for a deluxe edition of the 1977 Pink Floyd masterpiece Animals.

Symphony Orchestra is a new group from Maximilian Turnbull and Michael Rault. Both Rault and Turnbull are accomplished songwriters, performers and producers in their own right, with Turnbull leading The Badge Époque Ensemble, playing with the group Darlene Shrugg, and once releasing records under the name Slim Twig and Rault having released several psychedelic rock & roll classics under his own name in the past decade. The pair have worked together in various capacities for many years, writing and recording together on U.S. Girls' In A Poem Unlimited, and contributing to each other's releases, but the debut LP from Symphony Orchestra (due out May 12th on Telephone Explosion) marks their first release as an official entity.

Curse of Cain's 42 minutes weaves a compelling post-apocalyptic story that cooks together a bunch of different ingredients that probably shouldn't work, but actually does. The end result is tasty and satisfying.

The band's style is one that features a few different influences - modern metal, nu-metal, metalcore, Gothic rock, symphonic metal, and heavy metal, to name but a few - to produce an album that's a curious and enjoyable mix of old and new sounds. Try to visualise a diverse mix of elements from bands such as Slipknot, Deathstars, Mushroomhead, Paradise Lost, Mnemic, and Theatre of Tragedy, (and more), and you might be prepared for the dance-friendly end times story that Curse of Cain craft.

Each song on Curse of Cain has its own personality and character. Each reveals a new facet of Curse of Cain's music, while still keeping within their musical framework. European power metal influences sit next to nu-metal ones seamlessly. Metalcore collides with Gothic rock without a hitch. The only requirement for what to include seems to be the need to produce catchy songs that you can easily imagine being played in packed live shows at full volume.

Blending their influences - from the 90s to the present day - into well-crafted and professional songs, this is an album of both surprising substance and considerable style. The vocals are as diverse as the music - more so - and the band are adept at collectively producing a range of shouts and cleans that are all well-performed and emotive.

Curse of Cain sounds like something from the 2000s that's been updated for the present day. Curse of Cain's sci-fi-themed metal is infectious and filled with hooks and anthemic choruses.

Imperium is the solo project of Finnish drummer and songwriter Mika Brushane. Mika has been playing drums and percussion in various bands since 1981, has played all genres from Jazz to Metal and that can be found in the Imperium songs in a positive sense.

The music is Melodic Rock / AOR and has a big dose of 80s feel and sound. The project began in 2012, followed by three albums on AOR Heaven (Dreamhunter - 2016, Beyond The Stars - 2018 and Heaven Or Hell - 2020). At Imperium, Mika is responsible for the songwriting and plays all drums, keyboards, bass, sings all backing vocals and produces.

All lead vocals and guitars are played by top musicians from the rock/metal scene, including RobbielaBlanc, Michael Bormann, Joel Hoekstra. The post-production of the album was also taken over by top professionals.

The album was mixed by Erkka Korhonen (Dark Sarah, Urban Tale, Northern Kings, Ari Koivunen, Raskasta Joulua Tour) and mastered by the legendary Mika Jussila (Nightwish, Children of Bodom, Stratovarius, HIM etc.).

Samantha Fish has received practically every accolade a contemporary blues singer/songwriter/guitarist could hope for. The first album from Happy End (Haruomi Hosono, Eiichi Otaki, Takashi Matsumoto, Shigeru Suzuki) who proudly sang "Japanese rock is born!!". This is the first album by the legendary rockers Happy End, released 1970.08.05. Their sound is very typical of American rock during the 1970s. One of their songs was featured on the soundtrack for Lost in Translation. Member Hosono went on to found YMO (Japan's most famous group from the 1980s).
