Mike Patton and renowned French composer Jean-Claude Vannier have released their epic collaborative album Corpse Flower.

Coming via Ipecac Recordings, the 12-track album came to fruition when Patton met Vannier through his work with French singer and artist Serge Gainsbourg.
A legendary musician in his own right, Vannier has been cited by the likes of Beck, Portishead, and Massive Attack as inspiration.
A variety of musicians, both in Los Angeles and Paris, took part in the recording of Corpse Flower. The LA-based sessions included Smokey Hormel (Beck, Johnny Cash), Justin Meldal-Johnsen (Beck, Air, Nine Inch Nails), and James Gadson (Beck, Jamie Lidell). Parsian contributors included Denys Lable, Bernard Paganotti (Magma), Daniel Ciampolini, Didier Malherbe, Leonard Le Cloarec, and the Becon Palace String Ensemble.

Samantha Fish announces "Kill Or Be Kind". The Kansas City-born-and-bred musician flirts with tradition but pushes genre boundaries to create a sound that's distinctly her own: "She Don't Live Here Anymore", co-written by Parker Millsap, features a Memphis soul underpinning with a sustained vibrato guitar sound that edges toward country. "Love Your Lies" persuasively straddles punk, rockabilly, and soul; while "You Got It Bad (Better Than You Ever Had)" is a classic blues rocker, thick with layered guitars and a cigar box solo. She shows off her range with the sweetly wistful "Dream Girl" and the cathartic, blues saturated "Farewell My Fair Weather".

The follow-up to 2015's Killer Instinct, the aptly named Heavy Fire delivers another barrage of might, melody, and dual-lead riffage that invokes the heydays of classic rock without falling victim to nostalgia. The third time around for Thin Lizzy expats Ricky Warwick, Scott Gorham, Damon Johnson, and Jimmy DeGrasso, and the second ride for former Ratt and Lynch Mob member Robbie Crane, Heavy Fire sees the veteran decibel-makers firing on all cylinders. Produced by Grammy winner Nick Raskulinecz (Danzig, Rush, Death Angel), who allows the band's raw power to do all of the heavy lifting, the ten-track set comes out of the gate swinging with its pugilistic title track, a bluesy, shape-shifting kick in the noggin that plays to all of the bandmembers' strengths. Slinky guitarmonies and playful chord changes evoke vintage Thin Lizzy on standouts like "Dancing with the Wrong Girl" and "Testify or Say Goodbye," both of which are as radio-ready as they are inventive, and the wistful "Cold War Love" proves that Black Star Riders are just as capable of infusing midtempo balladry with muscle as they are straight-up barnburners like "When the Night Comes In" and "Letting Go of Me." As vital as the instrumental performances are, the biggest charge is delivered by Ricky Warwick's seasoned croon and confidant phrasing, with the gospel-tinged, Dark Side of the Moon-esque backing vocals of Wendy Moten, Gale Mayes, and Drea Rhenee providing their own particular set of sparks. What began as an extension of post-Phil Lynott-era Thin Lizzy has become something far more nuanced, and with three solid studio albums now in their rear-view mirror, it would seem that Black Star Riders have successfully managed to embrace the past without losing themselves in it. ~ James Christopher Monger

Back in 1987, Minneapolis rock and roll renegades The Replacements famously stole their Twin/Tone master tapes and threw them in the Mississippi River. A year later-while wrapping up work on their Warner Bros. album, Don't Tell A Soul-the group absconded with a collection of their reels from Paisley Park studios. Thankfully, those tapes were spared a watery fate, and instead stashed away for decades by the band. Now they've been recovered to form the basis of The Replacements first-ever boxed set, DEAD MAN'S POP.

Hellyeah have just their first new album since the death of legendary drummer Vinnie Paul.

The death of Vinnie Paul brought even the hardest metalheads to tears and ended the reign of Pantera's iconic Abbott brothers. Following this past weekend's celebration of Vinnie's life, Hellyeah announced Welcome Home and that Stone Sour drummer Roy Mayorga will continue performing with the band on the road.

"While Vinnie Paul is obviously irreplaceable, one thing we can't not do is tour. As easy as it would be to say we're not going on the road, we have to," says bassist Kyle Sanders. "Vinnie would be extremely disappointed in us if we didn't promote this record properly. He'd be pissed off at all of us for putting all this work into finishing the record and then just letting it sit there on the shelf while we put a couple of songs to radio and whatever.and we know that."

As the second disc of this Deluxe Edition reissue shows, a-ha had more songs than could fit on the album: "The Breakers," "Sole Survivor" and "To Show It Is To Blow It" did not make it to the finished album. "The Breakers" was later re-recorded by Pal's band Savoy. They also put some effort and variety in their approach to studio work. There were recording and mixing sessions in London, New York and Oslo. Some of them are represented as demos or early mixes and enable the fan to track the growing of an idea into a hit, for example on "Lifelines," "Dragonfly" and others. In listening to the early and still very raw "Forever Not Yours" demo version, you can see clearly how fertile the new Magne-Morten partnership was in building a hit-track.

The deluxe version of Minor Earth | Major Sky is more than just another reissue of a hit album, with demos, early versions and alternate mixes. Disc two amounts to an entirely new take on the album. Early versions of the title track "Minor Earth | Major Sky," "Velvet," "Summer Moved On" and the enormous powerful version of "The Sun Never Shone That Day" as well as other takes that did not make it on the final cut reveal the sparkles of songwriting and the process of an idea becoming a hit. Fire & Brimstone, Gilbert's fifth studio album, reieased in October. He's not been about shy sharing its new songs, however: Since late 2018, fans have been able to hear a few of the more than a dozen tracks on the forthcoming project. Gilbert says he wrote and re-wrote the album "three times" in his quest to make it perfect.

"My albums are important to me, and the stories on them are very important to me, because they do tell a chapter of my life," he explains. The attention span just isn't there for people who may not be the most devoted fans. Our BG Nationers will listen to every song, but if you're trying to reach new people, the attention span's just not there. "When I was planning to do my second solo project, I really didn't want it to be just another bunch of songs," said Freddie Mercury, looking back on what became the Barcelona album. "I wanted it to be something different, to have another stamp to it that spearheaded the damn thing."

In the end, his second solo album - following the success of Mr Bad Guy in 1985 - became the 1988 triumph Barcelona, the bold and groundbreaking musical collaboration with Montserrat Caballe that allowed Mercury to fulfil a long-held dream of combining rock and opera. It was also a total thrill for the singer to work alongside a Spanish operatic soprano whose voice he considered "the best in the world".

When Stone Temple Pilots returned to the studio in 1994 to record the band's second album, the quartet was facing the high expectations set by its debut Core (1992), which sold more than eight million copies and earned a Grammy® Award. The release of Purple on June 7, 1994 would cement their place as one of the definitive bands of their generation as the album debuted at #1 on the Billboard album chart on its way to selling more than six million copies.

PURPLE: Super Deluxe Edition explores the making of the album with a mix of unreleased music that includes demos ("Unglued" and "Army Ants") and early versions of album tracks ("Meat Plow" and Interstate Love Song"), plus acoustic recordings ("Big Empty"). The collection also features three unreleased live performances from the 1994 KROQ Acoustic Christmas show, including a version of "Christmastime Is Here" from A Charlie Brown Christmas. Perhaps the biggest surprise of the new collection, however, is STP's previously unreleased demo of "She Knows Me Too Well," a song the Beach Boys originally recorded in 1965.

"'Purple' is a lean, throttling piece of post-alternative hard rock. STP doesn't rely simply on riffs, although there is a fair share of killer hooks; the band writes songs, where the melodies and chords intertwine, becoming inseparable. From the brooding ballad "The Big Empty" to the simple, pounding fuzzy riffs of "Vasoline", the group improved in every facet - their songs are stronger and their playing is more convincing and powerful." Jan Akkerman, the renowned Dutch guitarist who shot to fame during the 60s and 70s with bands like Focus, Brainbox and The Hunters, and was once voted Best Guitarist in the World by Melody Maker, released his new album "Close Beauty" on October , 2019 via Mascot Label Group/Music Theories Recordings.

"Close Beauty" is inspired from a simple notion, that when you are too close to an object you cannot see the real value. The instrumental album came together organically in a studio near Jan's hometown, and features Marijn van den Berg on drums, David De Marez Oyens on E-Bass and C-Bass and Coen Molenaar on keys. The stunning album cover, painted by Michael Cheval, fits the musical content of the album perfectly.

Seven years after Psychedelic Pill, Neil Young reactivates Crazy Horse. In the vast palette of the now 73-year-old Loner, this formation has always been the most rustic, the rawest, the wildest. A kind of rough diamond feeding on its imperfections to fuel an original rock'n'roll sincerity. With Crazy Horse, the old Canadian bison shoots everything that moves, whether massive rock, "countrysing" or uncontrolled lyrical flights. His old rhythmic accomplice - bassist Billy Talbot and drummer Ralph Molina - is there to keep the structure shaken by guitars well patibular, sticky and uncompromising. Except that in this post, the casting change affects the final result of this vintage 2019. The delicate Nils Lofgren replaces the killer Frank Sampedro who prefers to prolong his sunny retirement in Hawaii. Colorado ends up being less violent than its predecessors. But it remains an album of Crazy Horse. Obviously, Neil Young continues to brandish his fist to remind that the planet hangover. Without doubt, the Kinks 7th studio album is one of the greatest rock albums ever made, a near perfect example of Ray Davies' incredible storytelling ability in what was an innovation in 1969: a concept album. It's also poignant that a record based on the story of emigrating from the UK around its potential to enter the Common Market should hit its 50th anniversary right now. With Brexit on the horizon, the themes of 'Arthur' ring alarmingly familiar.

Arthur received unanimous acclaim on its release. Each of its 12 original album tracks is an absolute gem and all perfect examples of Ray Davies' intrinsic ability to weave a story around a song. In what was a golden period for the Kinks, Arthur followed another classic, The Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society when it was released on October 10th 1969.

A 1998 concept album based on the bloody legend of the murderous Hungarian countess Elizabeth Bathory, CRUELTY AND THE BEAST finds the English black-metal act Cradle of Filth indulging in a Wagnerian symphonic sound. While some of CRUELTY's tracks stick to a more straightforward metal aesthetic (see the demonic, driving "Cruelty Brought Thee Orchids"), "Desire in Violent Overture" and the sweeping "Bathory Aria" embody frontman Dani Filth's vision of a more grandiose depiction of narrative horror. Subsequent outings would see the goth-leaning ensemble reaching a wider audience, but BEAST stands out as one of Cradle of Filth's most ambitious and impressive achievements.

Rock & Roll Hall of Famer and music legend Jeff Lynne will follow up a remarkable run of sold out European and American tours with a new album, From Out of Nowhere, on November 1 from Columbia Records. Jeff Lynne's ELO, whose music has touched fans deeply across three generations now, has found himself in recent years at the peak of his powers as a songwriter, musician and producer. The forthcoming album features a buoyant title song which opens the ten-track record including the wistful "Help Yourself" to the celebratory "Down Came the Rain" to the churning rocker "One More Time" to the sweet closer, "Songbird."

As does its predecessor, 2015's Alone in the Universe, From Out of Nowhere shows Lynne finding new facets to his signature sound, at once drawing on his globally loved legacy and forging new paths in both sounds and emotions. Once again, he plays nearly every note of the music on guitars, bass, piano, drums, keyboards and vibes, as well as singing all of the lead and layered harmony vocals. Steve Jay, who also engineered the album, adds some percussion.
