On the trio of albums that made her reputation in 1976-1978, Joan Armatrading, Show Some Emotion, and To the Limit, Armatrading relied on the pristine production of Glyn Johns to underscore the sensitivity of her folk-based confessional songs. Here, on her first full-length album in two years, she turned to rock producer Richard Gottehrer and a session band that included Anton Fig, Chris Spedding, and members of the E Street Band, making her case for being a mainstream rocker. The songs were less serious, too, notably the title track, a U.K. hit. (The album's other British chart single was the ballad "All the Way from America," which was more in the style of her earlier work.) The result was the best-selling album Armatrading has ever had in either the U.S. or U.K.

For those looking for autumnal music this season - songs that appreciate nostalgia while accepting the inevitable arrival of the future - Roger Taylor's got you covered. On Oct. 1, the drummer of Queen released Outsider, an album that he describes as "a bit more grown-up than my last couple of albums." The artist created the album throughout the isolation of the pandemic, as Queen + Adam Lambert's tour was postponed to 2022.

This isn't Taylor's first solo album; in 1981, he released Fun In Space, and three more until his 2013 album, Fun on Earth. Although this new album is coming out 40 years after his first individual album, it is still individually written, produced and performed. Prior to the pandemic, while the band gained traction on the silver screen, Taylor was playing shows, such as one with the Foo Fighters at a pop-up show in LA. Though the drummer doubtlessly pays tribute to his time with Queen, he makes more political statements than the band did.

"In Queen we always tried to be apolitical," Taylor said in a press release. "But when you have the freedom to express yourself as a single person, you can say what the hell you like, which I've always tried to do. So many gangsters are running countries these days." And with such freedom, you can also explore different musical styles and thematic concepts, from the bluesy "I Know I Know I Know" to the uplifting title track. After nearly two years of feeling like outsiders from the rest of the world, this album comes to remind us that we aren't alone in the feeling.

Swedish AOR band HOUSTON has announced that their new studio album, "IV" will be released on October 2021. "IV" was produced under the direction of former member and AOR guru Ricky Delin, who also co-wrote with the band.

Houston released their self-titled debut album in 2010 and landed at number one on Classic Rock Magazine's AOR chart that year, beating out some stiff competition. The band then went on to play the festival circuit with appearances at Sweden Rock, Download Festival (UK), and Rock of Ages (Germany), as well as touring the UK with Swedish sleaze rockers Crashdiet. Houston's second album, "Relaunch" featured a cover song called 'Runaway' that became the soundtrack to Red Bull's own Danny MacAskill's Extreme BMX video 'Imaginate' which has almost 100 million views on YouTube and over 1.3 million plays on Spotify and counting.

Fans can look forward to another classic AOR masterpiece from these Swedish masters with the release of "Houston IV".

The return of former Little Angels singer Toby Jepson to the UK rock scene with Wayward Sons was a welcome event in the British hard rock music scene when it transpired some five years ago. After the overwhelming success of Little Angels, including a number one album, millions of records sold, massive sell out shows and numerous hit singles, Toby had been busy in the prior years in movie work as well as performing with Fastway, Gun, and Dio's Disciples and producing albums for numerous bands (Saxon, Fastway, The Virginmarys, Toseland, and more).

His heart, however, was always in writing and performing and so the concept of Wayward Sons was born - a new band, built for playing live. A new direction with Toby's songs taking center stage was introduced on the debut album "Ghosts Of Yet To Come". The album was greeted with outstanding critical acclaim and earned Wayward Sons the title of "Best New Band" at the Planet Rock awards 2018. More and increasing success followed with the release of the sophomore album, "The Truth Ain't What It Used to Be."

Roger Glover is best known as the bass player of the Hard Rock flagship Deep Purple, which he has been part of all incarnations of the band since the reunion in 1984. He joined the Lord, Paice and Blackmore, together with Ian Gillan in 1969 to form the famous MK II, Deep Purple line-up which is considered the legendary, classic line-up of the band. In the '70s he co-wrote and played on albums like "In Rock", "Machine Head" and "Fireball", not to mention "Made in Japan". His solo works have always been on a very high musical level, showing how much influence his bass lines and musical view are essential parts of the famous Purple sound.

Since Deep Purple's reunion in 1984, he, together with Ian Paice, make up the best rhythm section you can listen to, rocking the world non-stop with new and old Purple classics.

Initially released in 2002, Snapshot is Glover's fourth solo album. Joining forces with the Guilty Party, he teamed up with vocalist Randall Bramblett, daughter Gillian Glover and guitarist Warren Haynes among others to deliver this blues rock album that is peppered with a lot of swing, reggae and jazz influences and is a true highlight of Glover's solo career.

Now, almost 20 years later the reissue Snapshot+ brings back these fourteen wonderful blues songs.

Porcupine Tree's first album for K-Scope/Snapper starts out with a definite bang -- "Even Less," with some of the quartet's biggest, blasting rock epic music yet, yet also shot through with the gentler, acoustic side that makes Porcupine Tree so intimate and lovely. The net result easily calls Yes to mind, but Steven Wilson's not so high-pitched as Jon Anderson and Richard Barbieri completely avoids Rick Wakeman's extreme idiocies -- prog that knows when less is more. With that as a fine signal for the album as a whole, Stupid Dream takes it from there -- Wilson as a songwriter and singer both sounds recharged and more ambitious, while the group collectively pours it on. The loud passages feel truly sky-smashing, the calmer ones perfectly close, and the overall sense of build and drama -- "A Smart Kid" is a fine example -- spot-on. Strings from the East of England Orchestra and guest work on Wilson's sometime Bass Communion partner Theo Travis add even lusher atmospheres without swamping the tunes. As always, the group isn't afraid to experiment where others merely re-create -- check out the funky breaks Colin Edwin and Chris Maitland lay down on "Slave Called Shiver," not to mention Wilson's catchy piano figure and Barbieri's Hammond organ fills. Lyrically, Wilson comes up with some of his best work yet. "Piano Lessons" looks back on past musical learning and a doubtful teacher as a spur to trying harder, while "Pure Narcotic" offers up a romantic scenario and tip of the hat to Radiohead all at once: "You keep me hating/You keep me listening to The Bends." There's actually a musical hint or two of the Oxford quintet as well -- the acoustic guitar/drum intro to "This Is No Rehearsal" is a good example -- but leave it to Porcupine Tree to drop in some fully plugged in thrash metal, as well.

Aja was cool, relaxed, and controlled; it sounded deceptively easy. Its follow-up, Gaucho, while sonically similar, is its polar opposite: a precise and studied record, where all of the seams show. Gaucho essentially replicates the smooth jazz-pop of Aja, but with none of that record's dark, seductive romance or elegant aura. Instead, it's meticulous and exacting; each performance has been rehearsed so many times that it no longer has any emotional resonance. Furthermore, Walter Becker and Donald Fagen's songs are generally labored, only occasionally reaching their past heights, like on the suave "Babylon Sisters," "Time Out of Mind," and "Hey Nineteen." Still, those three songs are barely enough to make the remainder of the album's glossy, meandering fusion worthwhile.

Dr. John - who, for over sixties years until his death at the age of seventy-seven on June 6th, 2019 pursued a career in music that was, at its core, all about bringing the music of New Orleans to the world at large. This collection (first released in 1977) brings together a number of recordings from the mid-'60s which find Dr. John honing the New Orleans style that he would perfect in the '70s on classics including 'Such A Night' and 'Right Place, Wrong Time'.

From the Liner Notes: Malcolm Rebenneck as Dr. John, the Night Tripper has demonstrated an amazingly high degree of funkmanship as the third generation son of the Second Line, the light New Orleans rhumba rhythm that defined in popular music initially by Roy 'Professor Longhair' Byrd, Huey 'Piano' Smith, and later refined for even greater mass acceptance by Antoine 'Fats' Domino.

Dr. John no longer resides in New Orleans and currently devotes most of his energies to behind the scene projects in California, such as producing Van Morrison. British prog rock group UK, who issued two albums at the tail end of the 1970s, are celebrated in Ultimate Collectors' Edition, a forthcoming 16-disc box set compiled and curated by original band member Eddie Jobson.

Formed in England in 1977, the acclaimed supergroup was made up of keyboardist and electric-violinist Jobson (Roxy Music, Frank Zappa); vocalist and bassist John Wetton (King Crimson); guitarist Allan Holdsworth (Soft Machine); and drummer Bill Bruford (Yes, King Crimson, Genesis).

This new box set boasts a wealth of material, the cornerstone of which is the two studio long-players, 1978's UK and Danger Money from 1979 (the latter recorded as a trio with drummer Terry Bozzio) which are newly remastered at Abbey Road and presented on CD and 24/96 hi-res blu-ray audio.

This is Max Hunt's first official solo release of song based material. 'Hope' was created during the hardest part of the Covid19 Lockdown of 2020/21.

With all live shows with well known German rock guitarist Siggi Schwarz, The Thrill, solo and duos having been cancelled and all social interaction having been prohibited for a protracted period in Germany, Max worked on his own in the Studio for many months on this release, pulling together music from the past and present into this new original album.

This album was produced with financial support in the form of a Stipendium (Grant) from the Hessische Kulturstiftung.

For Max 'Hope' represents the personal hope of a renaissance in musical culture and is inspired in part by the despair, anger and depression of this time and conversely the hope, enthusiasm and excitement for a better future.

Other inspirations for 'Hope' include: Vicar's talking to Toads, the Bavarian 'Alte Kath Zwiefache' dance, reoccurring childhood dreams, Dark Age European history, Space flight, Scifi, fantasy, natural sounds, west African Baka polyphonic Yodelling and Languages.

The five volumes are yet another tantalizing glimpse into the band's storied creative process. Although the reception for the album was largely mixed on release-some reviewers savaged it-the songs in retrospect are nothing short of amazing; this is by no means bottom-of-the-barrel Beatles. Tunes like "Get Back," "Let It Be," and "The Long and Winding Road" are as good as anything the band ever wrote or recorded. The first volume here contains the original album in a fresh 96 kHz/24-bit remix that like the other Giles Martin-directed mixes is sharper and brighter than the original but not fundamentally different. The biggest aural change has Ringo Starr's drums brought up and forward in the mix, like in the previous reissues in the series. Perhaps most important about this edition of Let It Be is that after years of being bootlegged, Glyn Johns' 1969 Get Back mix has finally been officially released in improved sound and can now be fairly compared to the 1970 version. Deliberately jumbled, with lots of studio patter left in, and meant to be a window into the band's loose, humorous way of making music (or what they hoped to project as such), it still feels sloppy and unfinished, which may be why The Beatles-who waffled throughout the process and initially wanted that ambiance-rejected it in en masse. Johns' mix opens with "One After 909" (written by Paul and John as teenagers) and then proceeds through looser versions of "Don't Let Me Down" (with fabulous accompaniment from keyboardist Billy Preston) "Dig A Pony," and "I've Got a Feeling" with Lennon adding his usual silly, sardonic asides throughout. George Harrison's "For You Blue" opens with the sound of ice cubes swirling in a drink. McCartney's much maligned "Teddy Boy," which didn't make the final cut of Let It Be but became part of McCartney's first solo album, is heard here with Lennon's famous mocking "Do-Si-Do" background comment left intact.

Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello is releasing his latest album The Atlas Underground Fire, sequel to his previous album The Atlas Underground, and it will indeed be getting hot. Singer-songwriter David Crosby's solo debut, If I Could Only Remember My Name, was dismissed by critics when it came out in 1971. Over the years, however, appreciation has grown for the album's adventurous aesthetic, stacked harmonies and haunting lyrics about loss and confusion. Billed as Crosby's solo debut, the album was anything but a one-man project.

Instead, it was one of his most collaborative efforts, featuring an all-star cast of players that included members of the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, and Santana, along with Graham Nash, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, and others.

If I Could Only Remember My Name turned 50 earlier this year and Rhino is celebrating with a 2-CD set that includes the album lovingly remastered from the original analog tapes, accompanied by a bonus disc that features a dozen unreleased demos, outtakes, and alternative versions. The new remaster was overseen by original album engineer Stephen Barncard with restoration and speed correction using Plangent Processes.

During pandemic lockdown, some people baked bread, others took up fostering kittens. Chris Martin, apparently, watched Star Wars. The Coldplay frontman has said that the band's ninth album was partly inspired by the Mos Eisley cantina band and "wonder[ing] what musicians are like across the universe." And honestly, thank god we have a band big enough to be able to afford to take chances like Music of the Spheres, because the results are thrilling. After the spacy intro "Music of the Spheres," opener "Higher Power" is a flat-out dance track, powered by a punchy electro beat, and joyously uplifting. Martin has said "the song is about trying to find the astronaut in all of us, the person that can do amazing things." (Although, at one point, he sings "Drocer nekorb a ekil mi"-"I'm like a broken record" in reverse.) It's the first example of the album being a family affair, too, as Martin's daughter Apple delivers the opening lilt. She also has a co-write on "Let Somebody Go," a lovely piano ballad that finds Martin duetting with Selena Gomez; it takes a surprising turn on the bridge, slipping into smooth jazz. Apple's brother Moses joins in on the chorus of "Humankind" (with an altered Stephen Fry on the intro), a supercatchy and energetic collection of bleeps and bloops and "alien" voices, '80s synth and strident acoustic guitar that is going to be awesome to work out to. It's a bit of a throwback to the dance-pop sounds of bands like MGMT circa 2008. It won't surprise you here to find out the record is produced by Max Martin, the man behind slick hits from Britney Spears, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift and others. His polished style is a surprising complement to Martin's unpolished rasp and a major asset on songs like "My Universe," a collaboration with BTS performed in English and Korean that cruises a funky groove of '80s FM pop; it's an earworm we'll all be stuck with for months. "People of the Pride" pushes Coldplay in a new, edgier direction-complete with ominous garage-rock guitar and an emo-pop stomp. Curiosity "Biutyful" warps the vocals to sound like a cutesy ET crooning a space-lounge melody. Twinkly "Infinity Sign" incorporates the soccer chant "Ole Ole Ole." The record closes out with one of the most wonderfully grandiose, swing-for-the-stars songs of Coldplay's career. Clocking in at 10 minutes, "Coloratura" is the band's The Dark Side of the Moon moment, weaving in a music box melody, fluttering strings, McCartney piano and spacey Gilmour guitars. It name-checks Galileo's discovery of the Callisto moon and declares,"It's the end of death and doubt and loneliness is out ... Coloratura, the place we dreamed about." (It will be great for planetarium laser shows.) Martin's voice cracks in all the right places, and the idea-"In the end it's all about the love you're sending out-is so elemental but expressed with such a sense of wonder about and gratitude for the universe, you can't help but feel a sense of hope. © Shelly Ridenour/Qobuz

Them were one of the very best R&B acts to come out of the U.K. during the British Invasion era, as tight, wiry, and potent as their contemporaries the Rolling Stones, the Animals, and the Pretty Things. But as good as they were, their greatest strength was always their lead singer and main songwriter, Van Morrison, who even in his earliest days boasted a style that was raw and unapologetic but full of street smarts and imagination. Morrison's run with Them lasted a bit more than two and a half years, but it laid the groundwork for his wildly idiosyncratic solo career as well as setting a standard that the band would never equal after he left to strike out on his own. There have been plenty of collections devoted to Morrison's tenure with Them, but The Complete Them: 1964-1967 is not only comprehensive but has Van's seal of approval, as it was assembled by Morrison's own team and features liner notes from the man himself. Sequenced chronologically, The Complete Them devotes its first two discs to the group's two albums of the period, Them (aka The Angry Young Them) and Them Again, as well as non-LP single and EP tracks. Disc two is devoted to demos, alternate takes, and some live tracks cut for BBC Radio, nearly all of them previously unreleased. According to Morrison's notes, Them's lineup was never consistent, especially in the studio, as the group's producers often brought in studio musicians (including Jimmy Page) to beef up the performances, but the product was both consistent and strong, with razor-sharp guitars and swirling organs dominating the arrangements and Morrison's vocals sounding nearly possessed. Having essentially all of Them's studio recordings in one place is great, but the bonus material offers a glimpse of their power as a live act, and the outtakes and alternate versions reveal the growing sophistication of Morrison's approach over the course of 24 tracks. Morrison's essay offers as much opinion as it does fact, but given his well-documented reticence, the fact he wrote the notes at all is impressive, and when he sums up his notes with "I think of Them as good records...there's a lot of good stuff here," he's absolutely right. As a history of an underappreciated band's greatest era or the first steps of one of rock's most individual artists, The Complete Them: 1964-1967 is essential listening.

Quatre ans separent cet album de son predecesseur The Wall qui placa Pink Floyd au sommet de son succes. Un bien nomme Final Cut (a requiem for the post war dream), avec comme sous-titre "un requiem pour le reve d'apres-guerre", qui sera le dernier disque avec Roger Waters, auteur solitaire de ce concept-album qu'il interprete dans sa quasi-totalite - et le seul ou n'apparait pas le clavieriste Richard Wright. Comme un premier opus solo ? Sans doute. Sa grandiloquence mise au service d'un antimilitarisme forcene (l'Angleterre et l'Argentine s'affrontent alors aux Malouines) n'est pas sans evoquer The Wall dont il retravaille d'ailleurs certaines compositions ecartees a l'epoque. Corealise par Roger Waters et David Gilmour, The Wall, onzieme album studio des Pink Floyd, sort au Royaume-Uni le 30 novembre 1979 chez Harvest et aux Etats-Unis le 8 decembre 1979 chez Columbia. C'est le dernier album studio du groupe forme de David Gilmour (guitare), Roger Waters (guitare basse et parolier), Richard Wright (claviers) et Nick Mason (batterie). En 1977, Waters - chanteur, bassiste, parolier, compositeur et arrangeur de Pink Floyd -, esquisse sur une feuille de papier le croquis d'un mur separant public et musiciens. Partant de cette projection, il fait appel a Bob Ezrin (producteur de Lou Reed, Alice Cooper, Kiss, etc) pour l'aider a concretiser son projet. C'est un double album au concept fort qui verra le jour et qui connaitra un succes massif - plus de trente millions de copies vendues. Reelle introspection de la vie de Waters, l'album mele fiction et realite a travers l'histoire de Pink, jeune rock star (qui symbolise en fait Waters lui-meme) en proie a ses demons et qui, petit a petit, construit un mur chimerique autour de lui pour se couper du monde. Cet opera-rock particulierement ambitieux porte essentiellement la marque emotionnelle de Roger Waters (evocation de son pere absent, de sa mere abusive et de la rigidite d'un systeme scolaire qui l'a traumatise a vie). The Wall a d'abord ete remasterise en 1994 au Royaume Uni par EMI. Puis en 1997 la firme Columbia remasterise a son tour l'album, avec une qualite de son superieure a celui d'EMI, pour le publier aux Etats-Unis, au Canada, en Australie, en Amerique du Sud et au Japon. Un peu apres le vingtieme anniversaire de l'album, Capitol relance en 2000 aux Etats-Unis l'edition de 1997 en reprenant le remastering europeen, et EMI en fait de meme au Canada, en Australie, en Amerique du Sud et au Japon. By condensing the sonic explorations of Meddle to actual songs and adding a lush, immaculate production to their trippiest instrumental sections, Pink Floyd inadvertently designed their commercial breakthrough with Dark Side of the Moon. The primary revelation of Dark Side of the Moon is what a little focus does for the band. Roger Waters wrote a series of songs about mundane, everyday details which aren't that impressive by themselves, but when given the sonic backdrop of Floyd's slow, atmospheric soundscapes and carefully placed sound effects, they achieve an emotional resonance. But what gives the album true power is the subtly textured music, which evolves from ponderous, neo-psychedelic art rock to jazz fusion and blues-rock before turning back to psychedelia. It's dense with detail, but leisurely paced, creating its own dark, haunting world. Pink Floyd may have better albums than Dark Side of the Moon, but no other record defines them quite as well as this one.

David Gilmour released his second solo venture in 1984, following the apparent dissolution of Pink Floyd. He had released a record on his own in 1978, but About Face is much more accessible. Gilmour has a stellar band backing him, including Jeff Porcaro (drums), Pino Palladino (bass), and Anne Dudley (synthesizer). The songs on About Face show a pop sensibility that Pink Floyd rarely was concerned with achieving. Although the album didn't attract the attention of a Floyd release, several cuts did manage to get airplay. "Until We Sleep" is rife with shimmering synthesizers and cavernous drums, and "Blue Light" was a minor pop hit, with Gilmour's trademark delay-drenched guitar giving way to a driving, horn-laced rocker. Pete Townshend wrote two of the tracks: "Love on the Air" and the propulsive "All Lovers Are Deranged." Of course, there's more than enough of Gilmour's fluid guitar playing to satisfy, including the gorgeous "Murder," a gentle acoustic track that explodes with some fiery organ by Steve Winwood and concludes with a fierce coda. About Face is well-honed rock album that is riveting from beginning to end.

To think that David Gilmour waited 22 years to record his third solo album is a pretty solid indicator that he's not the kind of bloke to merely cash in on his name. After all, he's the guy who sold his house for four million English pounds and gave the money to charity. Perhaps now that the Pink Floyd reunion happened and he and Roger Waters are at least civil to one another, the Floyd enigma can finally find its way into the annals of history and rock legend. This catches listeners up to On an Island. Those desiring something edgy and dramatic will have to wait. Gilmour wrote six of these ten tunes with his wife, Polly Samson, who also plays a bit of piano and sings. Musically, On An Island is mostly a laid-back, utterly elegant English record. It has the feel of taking place between twilight and dawn. There are a few rumblers to upset the overall balance of tranquility and stillness, like flashes of heat lightning across the dark skies; they add dimension and a quiet power to these proceedings. Produced by Gilmour, Phil Manzanera (who appears on keyboards), and Chris Thomas, the album features guest spots from the likes of Richard Wright, Robert Wyatt, B.J. Cole, Floyd/Sly Stone drummer Andy Newmark, Georgie Fame, David Crosby and Graham Nash, Jools Holland, Willie Wilson, and many others. The set opens with "Castellorizon," a moody showcase with Gilmour's guitars backed by the orchestral arrangements of Zbigniew Preisner as conducted by Robert Zeigler. Preisner's arrangements throughout are wonderful and not quite as dark as one might expect, given his track record. Atmospheric and dramatic, it offers a lovely if off impression of the album. The title track, which follows, is all breezy strummed chords, keyboards by Wright, and dreamy vocals with Gilmour backed by Crosby and Nash. It's a slow, textured, and spacy love song. "The Blue" follows suit; it too is so utterly full of air that one can hear the wind rustling through the palms. Wright's backing vocals lend a slight PF "Echoes" slant (as does the Hammond organ); the instrumentation just shimmers, hovers, and floats the track along. There are rockers here, though -- "Take a Breath" features chunky razor-wire chords, Leszek Mozdzer's piano, and Manzanera's synth work winding around one another, and the mood is wonderfully plodding, dramatic, and futuristically "heavy." On the gauzy wee-hours instrumental "Red Sky at Night," Gilmour plays sax as well as guitars, and it gives way to "This Heaven," a bluesy stroller that's given deluxe organ treatment by Fame. There's a delightfully nocturnal feel that makes the track feel a bit sinister, but really it's the sound of eros making itself heard, and Gilmour contributes a biting solo and fills amid the drum samples and strings. Wyatt appears on the back-porch spacehead soundtrack-like tripnotica of "Then I Close My Eyes." His and Gilmour's wordless voices slip under and around the considerable space between instruments -- which include Wyatt on cornet and percussion as well as Cole playing a Weissenborn guitar, Caroline Dale's cello, a pair of harmonicas, and of course Gilmour's high-register blues twang. The set ends on a gentle note in "Where We Start" -- so much so that it may make some scratch their heads and wonder where the cranky, diffident Gilmour has wandered off to, but others will be drawn into this seductive, romantic new place where musical subtlety, spacious textures, and quietly lyrical optimism hold sway.

The debut album by the group, also known as The Angry Young Them, and half its tracks make it a dead-on rival to the Stones' debut album, writes Bruce Eder for AllMusic. This reissue features the album's original British configuration ("Just a Little Bit," "I Gave My Love a Diamond," "Bright Lights, Big City," and "My Little Baby" are here; "One Two Brown Eyes" and "Here Comes the Night" are absent).

Them were a Northern Irish band formed in Belfast in April 1964, known for the garage rock standard "Gloria" and launching singer Van Morrison's musical career. The original five member band consisted of Morrison, Alan Henderson, Ronnie Millings, Billy Harrison and Eric Wrixon. The group was marketed in the United States as part of the British Invasion.

"Decca's willingness to release a full-length Them album was conditioned upon the breakthrough success of the band's third single, "Here Comes the Night." It was not, however, the practice in Britain at the time to put hit singles on albums, so this 14-track LP does not include that song. It does, however, contain six songs written by lead vocalist Van Morrison, including the immortal "Gloria" and "Mystic Eyes," which became a chart single in the U.S., plus some well-played R&B covers. Because of an annotation on the back of the LP, this album is sometimes referred to as The Angry Young Them, although its official title is Them." (William Ruhlmann, AMG)

Them Again is the second album by the Northern Irish band, Them, whose lead singer and songwriter was Van Morrison. The album was released by Decca Records in the UK on 21 January 1966 but it failed to chart. In the U.S. it was released in April 1966 where it peaked at #138 on the Billboard charts.

"The group's second and, for all intents and purposes, last full album was recorded while Them was in a state of imminent collapse. To this day, nobody knows who played on the album, other than Van Morrison and bassist Alan Henderson, though it is probable that Jimmy Page was seldom very far away when Them was recording. The 16 songs here are a little less focused than the first LP. The material was cut under siege conditions, with a constantly shifting lineup and a grueling tour schedule; essentially, there was no "group" to provide focus to the sound, only Morrison's voice, so the material bounces from a surprisingly restrained "I Put a Spell on You" to the garage-punkoid "I Can Only Give You Everything." Folk-rock rears its head not only on the moody cover of Dylan's "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue" but also the Morrison-authored "My Lonely Sad Eyes," but the main thrust is soul, which Morrison oozes everywhere -- while there's some filler, his is a voice that could easily have knocked Mick Jagger or Eric Burdon off their respective perches." The Rolling Stones announced a series of 40th anniversary, expanded editions of Tattoo You, the group's multi-platinum 1981 release from Polydor/Interscope/UMe.
The remastered set will include "no fewer' than nine previously unreleased tracks from that era. The rocker "Living In The Heart Of Love" is available now on all digital services.

The 11 tune album, originally mastered on vinyl by Bob Ludwig and still sounding great inlcudes "Waiting on a Friend" (with Sonny Rolling on sax), "Hang Fire" and of course "Start Me Up". Meanwhile The Stones hit the road September 26th on a 13 date No Filter tour starting in St. Louis and running into November with Charlie Watts sitting it out this time due to post-op recovery from unspecified surgery.

The deluxe format editions wil include Lost & Found: Rarities and Still Life: Wembley Stadium 1982 that the press release describes as featuring 26 tracks including "newly completed and enhanced..." tracks with "additional vocals and guitar by the band"

CATALYST CRIME release an excellent debut album. It includes the best elements of symphonic Metal and the cinematic elements add an extra dimension to their sound. "Catalyst Crime" is a perfect symbiosis of modern Metal, Power Metal, Death Metal and orchestral arrangements with the overarching vocals of Zoe Marie Federoff who puts the album onto a higher level. The sound of the album is diverse and distinctive which is evidence for excellent songwriting. The album is very well produced. CATALYST CRIME set the bar very high with their debut album and the band is on a good way to become one of the very best in symphonic Metal.

As two of the most distinctive artists from the '60s and '70s given their work in CSNY, Crosby & Nash also did great work as a duo act. Wind on the Water was released in 1975 after the previous year's CSNY reunion tour and the dissolution of their contract at Atlantic. In many respects, this alliance made perfect sense. When it was just the two of them, they were often more likable. Crosby wasn't as much of a blowhard and Nash became more pragmatic. Wind on the Water's virtues are apparent with the first song, the warm and pensive single "Carry Me." "Homeward Through the Haze," "Low Down Payment," and "Naked in the Rain" are gems that all but sum up their complicated harmonic and melodic style. Besides Crosby & Nash being on their game, the studio players here are impeccable. Lovers of '70s pop/rock will love to hear players like Danny Kortchmar and David Lindley effortlessly doing their identifiable riffs. James Taylor, Carole King, and Jackson Browne also showed up for these sessions, but do not intrude or overshadow Crosby & Nash. Without a doubt, despite the strong production, the stars of the show here are Crosby & Nash. The album concludes with "To the Last Whale...: Critical Mass/Wind on the Water." The song is not only a testament to the album's skill at making the complex seem effortless, but it also gets its point across without being mushy. Wind on the Water has an instant classic, lived-in sound and is a definite must-have.

Obscured by Clouds is the soundtrack to the Barbet Schroeder film La Vallée, and it plays that way. Of course, it's possible to make the argument that Pink Floyd's music of the early '70s usually played as mood music, similar to film music, but it had structure and a progression. Here, the instrumentals float pleasantly, filled with interesting textures, yet they never seem to have much of a purpose. Often, they seem quite tied to their time, either in their spaciness or in the pastoral folkiness, two qualities that are better brought out on the full-fledged songs interspersed throughout the record. Typified by "Burning Bridges" and "Wot's...uh the Deal," these songs explore some of the same musical ground as those on Atom Heart Mother and Meddle, yet they are more concise and have a stronger structure. But the real noteworthy numbers are the surprisingly heavy blues-rocker "The Gold It's in The...," which, as good as it is, is trumped by the stately, ominous "Childhood's End" and the jaunty pop tune "Free Four," two songs whose obsessions with life, death, and the past clearly point toward Dark Side of the Moon. ("Childhood's End" also suggests Dark Side in its tone and arrangement.) As startlingly advanced as these last two songs are, they're not enough to push the rest of Obscured by Clouds past seeming just like a soundtrack, yet these tunes, blended with the sensibility of Meddle, suggest what Pink Floyd was about to develop into.

Corealise par Roger Waters et David Gilmour, The Wall, onzieme album studio des Pink Floyd, sort au Royaume-Uni le 30 novembre 1979 chez Harvest et aux Etats-Unis le 8 decembre 1979 chez Columbia. C'est le dernier album studio du groupe forme de David Gilmour (guitare), Roger Waters (guitare basse et parolier), Richard Wright (claviers) et Nick Mason (batterie). En 1977, Waters - chanteur, bassiste, parolier, compositeur et arrangeur de Pink Floyd -, esquisse sur une feuille de papier le croquis d'un mur separant public et musiciens. Partant de cette projection, il fait appel a Bob Ezrin (producteur de Lou Reed, Alice Cooper, Kiss, etc) pour l'aider a concretiser son projet. C'est un double album au concept fort qui verra le jour et qui connaitra un succes massif - plus de trente millions de copies vendues. Reelle introspection de la vie de Waters, l'album mele fiction et realite a travers l'histoire de Pink, jeune rock star (qui symbolise en fait Waters lui-meme) en proie a ses demons et qui, petit a petit, construit un mur chimerique autour de lui pour se couper du monde. Cet opera-rock particulierement ambitieux porte essentiellement la marque emotionnelle de Roger Waters (evocation de son pere absent, de sa mere abusive et de la rigidite d'un systeme scolaire qui l'a traumatise a vie). The Wall a d'abord ete remasterise en 1994 au Royaume Uni par EMI. Puis en 1997 la firme Columbia remasterise a son tour l'album, avec une qualite de son superieure a celui d'EMI, pour le publier aux Etats-Unis, au Canada, en Australie, en Amerique du Sud et au Japon. Un peu apres le vingtieme anniversaire de l'album, Capitol relance en 2000 aux Etats-Unis l'edition de 1997 en reprenant le remastering europeen, et EMI en fait de meme au Canada, en Australie, en Amerique du Sud et au Japon. By condensing the sonic explorations of Meddle to actual songs and adding a lush, immaculate production to their trippiest instrumental sections, Pink Floyd inadvertently designed their commercial breakthrough with Dark Side of the Moon. The primary revelation of Dark Side of the Moon is what a little focus does for the band. Roger Waters wrote a series of songs about mundane, everyday details which aren't that impressive by themselves, but when given the sonic backdrop of Floyd's slow, atmospheric soundscapes and carefully placed sound effects, they achieve an emotional resonance. But what gives the album true power is the subtly textured music, which evolves from ponderous, neo-psychedelic art rock to jazz fusion and blues-rock before turning back to psychedelia. It's dense with detail, but leisurely paced, creating its own dark, haunting world. Pink Floyd may have better albums than Dark Side of the Moon, but no other record defines them quite as well as this one.

A transitional album on which the band moved from Syd Barrett's relatively concise and vivid songs to spacy, ethereal material with lengthy instrumental passages. Barrett's influence is still felt (he actually did manage to contribute one track, the jovial "Jugband Blues"), and much of the material retains a gentle, fairy-tale ambience. "Remember a Day" and "See Saw" are highlights; on "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun," "Let There Be More Light," and the lengthy instrumental title track, the band begin to map out the dark and repetitive pulses that would characterize their next few records.
