Modern English is excited to announce the Friday, February 23 release of 1 2 3 4, the legendary British new wave/post-punk band's first album of new material in eight years. Produced by Mario J. McNulty (David Bowie, Lou Reed, Nine Inch Nails), mixed by Cenzo Townsend and mastered at Abbey Road, 1 2 3 4 retains the intrinsic spirit of these early post-punk days, and is also a sterling sonic example of what Modern English have always done best.

The album encompasses seething songs with a punk bite ("Long in The Tooth," "Plastic"), keyboard-forward melodic rockers ("Not Fake," "Crazy Lovers") and simmering, darkwave-meets-post-punk gems ("Exploding," "Out to Lunch"). With a touch of subtle themes lifted from After the Snow (1982) and Ricochet Days (1984) that include the environment, aging, failed relationships, love and more, 1 2 3 4 finds the legendary band delving into nostalgia but, as always, exploring new creative territory. With singles "Long in the Tooth" and "Crazy Lovers" released in advance of the announcement, today the band offers "Not My Leader," a scathing observation on politics in both the U.S. and the UK and how they aren't dissimilar.

"I remember first coming to America in the early-'80s," frontman Robbie Grey recalls. "We had Margaret Thatcher and you had Ronald Reagan. And then fast forward to today to Donald Trump and all the politicians and corporate organizations that have followed - along with their corruption and greed. It's the same thing 40 years later, really. It's the same old shit that makes the ordinary person feel sick. 'Not My Leader' is a song against those people."

Live in Paris 1973 is the first official release of one of Can's most legendary performances, a May 12, 1973 set at L'Olympia. At this point, Ege Bamyasi had been out for about half a year, following the German chart success of the single "Spoon," and Damo Suzuki was merely months away from leaving the band and quitting music for a decade, while he devoted time to religion. This release of the concert was pieced together from several recordings found in the Spoon Records vaults, as well as tapes supplied by fans. In this sense, it's comparable to the editing process of the band's studio albums, which were crafted from hours' worth of improvised sessions. This live set is a largely unfiltered display of the band's powers when they were at their prime, with a few deft editing touches (such as a brief echo spiral in the middle of the 36-minute "Paris 73 Eins") seemingly applied to cover up breaks in the tape recordings, or other inconsistencies. Like the other Can live releases, the tracks are numerically titled, and generally seem like improvisations, but the group often riff off tunes from their albums, using them as launching pads instead of giving them straightforward readings. "Zwei" is based on the funky, time-shifting rhythm of "One More Night," and it's the set's purest distillation of Can's mastery of killer grooves. "Drei," based on "Spoon," starts out with murky fidelity but opens up after a few minutes, in time for the band to accelerate and really blast off. "Vier" expands on this volatile energy, and there's unbelievable chemistry between the rhythm section, Suzuki's impassioned howls, and Irmin Schmidt's volcanic keyboard eruptions. Finally, the group run through "Vitamin C," transforming it into an extended freak-out that probably lasted long after the tape cut off. Live in Paris 1973 is Can at their on-stage best, and easily the band's most essential live release.

Mute and Spoon Records present the next instalment of the curated CAN live concert series, LIVE IN PARIS 1973-the first in the series to feature Damo Suzuki's vocals. The series was overseen by founding member Irmin Schmidt and producer/engineer René Tinner, who delicately worked on restoring the archival recordings to the best quality for current modern technology. This record captures the band's 1973 performance in Paris and features Irmin Schmidt on keyboard & synths, Jaki Liebezeit on drums, Michael Karoli on guitars, Holger Czukay on bass, and Damo Suzuki on vocals for one of his final shows with the band.

The temptation to mythologize Bill Fay can be overwhelming; Fay was, for decades, as prolific as he was under-appreciated. Fay's unsung-hero status has changed slowly, steadily, on the order of almost twenty-five years. With each new album comes new hosannas and evangelizers - Jeff Tweedy, Kevin Morby, Adam Granduciel and Julia Jacklin, to name just a few.

The Bill Fay Group, in particular, is Fay's most significant collaborative work; he records as a member of a larger group here, and the result summons a grander sonic scale, an elegant counterweight to Fay's instincts for the understated. Tomorrow Tomorrow and Tomorrow brings to bear the galactic qualities of early rock, the intricacy of jazz improv, and Fay's earthy folk magic.

Tomorrow Tomorrow and Tomorrow has a patchy release history: recorded between 1978 and 1981, it was not released until 2005, when it appeared on CD with limited streaming and no vinyl companion. A 2006 reissue brought the album onto vinyl but with a truncated sequence and nine songs missing. Now, finally, Tomorrow Tomorrow and Tomorrow arrives in full worldwide. Available on streaming services worldwide and pressed to a double-album vinyl edition, it features the album's original 22 songs and includes rare and previously unseen photographs from Tomorrow Tomorrow and Tomorrow's original recording session.

In the words of Gary Smith and Rauf Galip, missing Bill Stratton, and abbreviated from the forthcoming album notes:

We chose five songs to record as finished pieces: Life, Spiritual Mansions, Cosmic Boxer, Strange Stairway, Isles of Sleep, all recorded in two studio sessions. We sent them out to try and get a record deal. There were few really independent labels back then and Punk was in the record labels' ears. No deal.

And now, Dead Oceans who have a lot of faith in Bill's music wants to re- release the 'Tomorrow' album. A double vinyl package. Is there any more unreleased music for the fourth side? Of course. So, we've been opening old boxes, finding CDRs, cassettes, a musical archaeological dig. This is our choice from all the music we found.

The New Magic is the music of Martin van Houtum, and whoever he invites along to play with him. Based in Oslo, Norway, the producer and multi-instrumentalist has been knee-deep in music throughout his entire life. You may have heard him in a number of different groups, past and present: Den Kosmiske Overorden, Zenon, Wind, The Abaia Magic - to mention a few. He has spent years exploring different instruments and sounds, eventually learning that the studio itself, and the art of song crafting, is his favorite instrument of them all.

The album "Bird's Eye View" is the fulfillment of his creative vision. Initially conceived as a foray into ambient and minimalism, somewhere along the way it took some detours towards baroque pop, exotic island music and cosmic psychedelic explosions. Brian Eno meets Brian Wilson? Harpsichord meets breakbeats? Zelda meets FM synthesis? It's all there!

Thematically, the lyrics broadly touch upon the passage of time, the natural world, and the many possible struggles of being conscious.

Featured here are the very special talents of Per Kamfjord (vocals), Filip Zenon Ramberg (drums), Teodor Elstad (upright bass) and Morten Smith Lien (tenor and soprano saxophones). Leaving the remaining instruments to Martin, the end result is a record unlike any other - a truly special statement, and a must-have for any serious music lover.

Firehouse's self-titled debut was a slick, polished collection of pop-metal. While louder numbers like "Don't Treat Me Bad" sounded good on the radio, the true strength of the record was the group's knack for power ballads like the Top 10 hit "Love of a Lifetime."
