The British duo Ferris & Sylvester - who were named Emerging Artist of the Year at the Americana UK Awards in 2020 and recently hailed as "one of the best bands of the last five years" by the BBC - the epic release from their much-anticipated debut album Superhuman, out via PIAS. Produced by Ryan Hadlock (The Lumineers, The Strokes) and Michael Rendall (Pink Floyd), the 12-track album features 10 brand-new songs that take listeners on a journey where genres intertwine, emotions are laid bare, and harmonies chill to the bone.

Hailed for their "immaculate harmonies" and "rich, fully realized sound" (Rolling Stone), Ferris & Sylvester fuse Americana and rock'n'roll sensibilities into an undeniable sound. In the past, they have drawn comparisons to everyone from Simon & Garfunkel to First Aid Kit, but with their new single "Superhuman," are more akin to another legendary duo, The White Stripes.

Vocalist Erik Gronwall and songwriter/producer/multi-multi-instrumentalist Jona Tee, former bandmates in H.E.A.T., are continuing their musical partnership by unleashing New Horizon, their new power metal brainchild! Robban Back (Mustasch), Sam Totman (DragonForce), Love Magnusson (Dynazty), Dave Dalone (H.E.A.T), Niko Vuorela (Temple Balls), and Laucha Figueroa are all guest musicians/contributors to the band's debut album, "Gate Of The Gods".
The seeds of NEW HORIZON were planted in Jona's youth given that he grew up listening to (and still loves) Iron Maiden, Helloween, Hammerfall, Manowar, Edguy, and the like. Heavy metal is in his blood and New Horizon is something that is flowing through his veins and extremely close to his heart. He always dreamed of releasing his own power metal anthems one day. When asked about the sound of New Horizon, Jona Tee describes it as "a mix between classic power and heavy metal, with a touch of the 21st century."

Coming from a small town in Finland called Pori, Rust n' Rage is made up of four guys who all live for a similar cause: Rock n' Roll. The aforementioned special guest is Vince DiCola who plays keyboards on a cover of 'Far From Over', a song by Frank Stallone from the "Staying Alive" soundtrack. Vince is actually a co-writer of the original along with Stallone.
A delightful and massive melodic rock album, "Lightning In A Bottle" is chock full of mighty anthemic AOR songs featuring Robbie's soaring vocals backed by amazing performances from Flores and his band. Frontiers Music Srl is forthcoming release of 'X.X.X.', the new studio album by Radioactive. Founded in 1991 and masterminded by Swedish guitarist/songwriter/producer Tommy Denander, 'X.X.X.' is his fifth album under this moniker but first in seven years.

'X.X.X.' maintains a Radioactive trend in featuring a stunning list of guest vocalists, with Robin McAuley, Robbie LaBlanc, Clif Magness, Christian Ingebrigtsen, Daniel Byrne and the aforementioned Jerome Mazza all making contributions. For many, John Illsley will always be the imposing figure standing next to Mark Knopfler as Dire Straits left the London pub circuit behind and achieved worldwide domination via their fifth album 'Brothers In Arms'. The band almost singlehandedly convinced every household they needed a shiny little 5" silver disc to replace all those old and antiquated black slabs of 12" vinyl. Approximately 30 million of us did just that (which, in 2022, is pretty ironic considering the perceived cool factor of LPs these days). Alongside Mark Knopfler, John Illsley was the only other band member to do a full tour of duty with Dire Straits on their almost twenty-year run before the band slowly faded away in the early 1990s. John's solo career actually began during his time in Dire Straits with the 'Never Told A Soul' LP in 1984. John has continued to release albums on a semi-regular basis, with VIII being, unsurprisingly, his eighth studio album.

Straight out of the gate opener 'It's A Long Way Back' leaves us in no doubt whatsoever that John happily embraces his part in the Dire Straits story. An ambient opening sets the scene with lightly picked guitar over the swell of keyboards before the rhythm section of John and drummer Paul Beavis settle into a familiar shuffling rhythm that is the aural equivalent of coming home to a warm fire in deepest midwinter. Hushed, half-spoken, lyrical references to 'Deptford Town' and 'six-blade knives' further enhance the familiarity as John's understated vocal is nicely augmented by some rather lovely female backing vocals, while top blues/session guitarist Scott McKeon fires off numerous Knopfler inspired guitar flurries. This terrific opening track is sure to please fans of John and his musical back story. John and his band repeat the trick on the recent/first single 'Which Way Is Up' via a groove that seems ridiculously effortless. These two songs alone make 'VIII' a highly recommended purchase, but there is plenty more to enjoy here.

Together Again is the second album from Moon Halo, the musical project of vocalist Marc Atkinson and keyboardist Iain Jennings. Marc's warm and emotive vocals have graced many fine solo releases, along with guest appearance on albums by Lee Abraham, Drifting Sun, Mandalaband and John Holden, amongst others. He has also been a key member of Riversea, Nine Stones Close and Gabriel. Iain is a long-standing member of Mostly Autumn, as well as a number of solo and group projects, including Breathing Space.

Their first album, Chroma, was released at the start of 2020. Its fresh, diverse take on contemporary progressive rock was well-received at the time. The band were not afraid to produce a song-orientated release with a variety of styles rather than just sticking to a more traditional prog rock template, giving it an enjoyable crossover/mainstream appeal.

In December 1966 Joe Whiting would go on to team with Auburn native the legendary Mark Doyle to form the "New Ridgewoods" and after adding drummer Tom Glaister, bassist Barry Maturevity (a Ridgewood) and rhythm guitarist Chuck Baron plus changed their name to "Free Will". In the summer of 1967, Baron was replaced by John Dean and Bill Irwin added. In the spring of 1967 bassist Maturevitz was replaced by George Egosarian.

A year later Egosarian was replaced by John DeMaso. In 1969 Bill Irwin left and George Egosarian rejoined the band. Freewill zoomed onto the music scene first covering their home base playing Lake Dances in Auburn, Fabins in Skaneateles, Jordan-Elbridge High School and at East High School (Auburn) where they were one of the first to play a concert at a sit down auditorium, rather than a gym. They exploded into the Syracuse market playing the Scene (Dewitt), Jabberwocky (SU Campus) and Country Tavern.

Their music was based on British Blues playing Savoy Brown, Fleetwood Mac, John Mayall etc. They played the entire "Arthur" album by the Kinks and incredible melody by Spirit. We remember those famous Chuck Berry covers & Roy Orbison's version of "Candyman". They also performed several originals as "Carry Me Home", "Ridin' With The Devil", and "Get That Shinning Sun". During this time period Free Will ventured to Connecticut recording several demo tunes in late 1969 . That session included the only recorded versions of the legendary songs "Are You Gone" and "State Police Googie" both originals.

With its lineup finally set in the fall of 1971, Free Will changed its name to "Jukin Bone." Now with a recording contract with RCA Records the band entered Jimi Hendrix's Electric Ladyland Studio in New York City in 1972 and recorded their first album for RCA "Whiskey Woman". Heavy guitar riffs, solid rhythm section and great vocals. It's worth noting that all tracks were recorded completely live with a small, invited audience. Unfortunately, the album went almost unnoticed, although the band got at least a chance to record their second album.

The award-winning Scottish band Franz Ferdinand is releasing their greatest hits album, Hits to the Head, on March 11th. The release is chocked full of what has made the band so successful for twenty years, exuberant sonic pragmatism. This characteristic is represented by the band's long-established goal to write classic pop songs that make the girls and boys dance. Over five studio albums, they have succeeded and, along the way, garnered platinum albums and numerous awards, including a 2004 Mercury Prize, an Ivor Novello award and a few BRIT awards.

Set with the task of giving an overview of their career for Hits to the Head, the band, as described by lead singer Alex Kapranos, stated, ".it was like picking out a setlist for a concert", and what a list. There are twenty tracks with 18 existing tracks and two new songs to sweeten the twenty-track offering.

Hits to the Head offers up the biggest songs of their career, chart-toppers like "Darts of Pleasure, Take Me Out, This Fire, Ulysses" and numerous others that remind the listener why Franz Ferdinand is still cranking out songs twenty years after their creation. Much of this can be credited to the distinctive sonics signature the band has always created, melding Indie Rock, Post Punk Revival, Dance Punk, Dance Rock and Art Rock. They artfully create a musical world filled with down at the club antics and challenging romances, all the while accurately describing the excitement of pursuing love and experiences within that situation. The band also includes faves that don't always make it on the top 10 lists, along with the big hits. Tracks like "Michael, Lucid Dream and Standing on the Horizon" are a sample of just some that satisfy that category.

Meliora, the third long-player by Sweden's Ghost, looks back at what made their 2011 debut, Opus Eponymous, so special: Beautifully written, hook-laden, hard rock songs with clean (and even serene) singing. Produced by pop-heavy hitter Klas Åhlund (Usher, Katy Perry, Madonna) and mixed by Andy Wallace (Slayer, Rob Zombie, Sepultura), Meliora is a calculated step into accessibility, and offers a clear window into the band's collective career ambitions. Their anonymous, cowled and masked monk costumes and the skull-faced, anti-Papal dress of their frontman Papa Emeritus III (same guy as Papa Emeritus I and II), who delivers lyrics of unabashed, worshipful Satanism, however, are their only links to black metal. The rest comes straight out of rock's storied past, from Alice Cooper and Blue Öyster Cult to Witchfinder General, Venom, and many, many more. (The gorgeous vocal harmonies woven throughout the album reveal they've also spent time listening to the San Francisco, L.A., and Laurel Canyon sounds of the late '60s and early '70s ). Schtick aside, this band's songwriting makes for some of the most compelling hard rock out there. "From the Pinnacle to the Pit,"'s verse recalls Alice in Chains, yet contains one of the most compelling refrains since "Don't Fear the Reaper," with a large church organ sifted in for measure. First single "Cirice" opens with an acoustic guitar, but gives way to a Metallica-esque riff with a seductive bridge and an instantly hummable refrain. The intro to opener "Spirit" contains a creepy, gothic organ, Theremin, and choir -- it lets us know these guys love the soundtrack atmospherics of vintage horror movies -- but the tune offers traces of prog rock alongside a gripping metal riff. "Mummy Dust" is the set's headbanger (though the AC/DC references in "Absolution" are a close second) that openly worships Mercyful Fate. It's the only tune here that has (somewhat) dirty vocals, stacked atop a blazing organ and effects-laden guitars. Closer "Deus in Absentia" pays homage to Thin Lizzy with its dual lead guitar harmonies, and to BÖC (who seem to haunt all Ghost's albums to some degree) with a pumping acoustic piano and thundering tom-toms. It's an anthemic patchwork of '70s styles, carried out by a classical choir à la Mozart's Requiem. Meliora jumps so quickly from classic hard rock to prog to glam metal it can be dizzying (and perhaps even dazzling) for listeners. What holds it all together is solid writing that sticks close to stock pop/rock methodology. Ghost's lyrics often turn to Lucifer for comfort and consolation here -- their loving allure may prove to be shocking to parents (who may indeed enjoy the melodies). But the kids get the gag, and they'll have the final say as to whether Ghost achieves the mass popularity they so desperately seek.

A new Frank Zappa box set, The Mothers 1971, release on March via Zappa Records/UMe. The Mothers 1971 include the band's entire two-night, four-show run at Fillmore East in New York, NY in celebration of the original live album's 50th anniversary.

Fillmore East - June 1971 saw a release back in August of the same year and curated 12 tracks from the legendary run of shows. This 8xCD set will compile all 63 tracks from the four performances on June 5th-6th, 1971, newly mixed from scratch by longtime Zappa Trust associate Craig Parker Adams at Winslow Ct. Studios and mastered by John Polito at Audio Mechanics. Of note, The Mothers 1971 will also include the surprise encore set that saw John Lennon and Yoko Ono join the band to close out the final evening (an event that would cause a rift between Zappa and Lennon/Oko for years to come).

In addition to capturing the Fillmore East performances, this all-encompassing offering also contains the single "Teas Began to Fall" and its B-side "Junier Mintz Boogie", as well as audio from the band's tour stops at State Farm Show Arena in Harrisburg, PA on June 3rd; Watres Armory in Scranton, PA on June 1st; and the infamous show at Rainbow Theatre in London, England on December 10th.

Frontiers Music Srl is pleased to announce the release of the second studio album from Shining Black, "Postcards From The End Of The World". Shining Black is a melodic metal band featuring vocalist Mark Boals (Yngwie Malmsteen, Ring Of Fire, Royal Hunt) and guitarist Olaf Thorsen (Labyrinth, Vision Divine). Their self-titled debut (2020) showcased cutting edge melodic metal songwriting techniques from Thorsen combined with the outstanding vocal abilities of Boals. Thorsen and Boals now present "Postcards From the End of the World", their sophomore album, which again highlights the outstanding collaboration between the two musicians. This album takes up where the debut left off, comprising ten songs of modern power metal with the combination of Boals' lung-busting vocals and Thorsen's blistering guitar skills. Completing the lineup are Oleg Smirnoff on keyboards & piano, Nik Mazzucconi on bass, and Matt Peruzzi on drums.

The roots of Thorsen and Boal's artistic collaboration goes back to 2014, when the Italian power/progressive metal band Labyrinth was faced with the dilemma of moving forward without their long-time singer Roberto Tiranti. The band invited Boals to join them and began work on new songs which would have been released on the band's next album. However, Mark's busy schedule at the time did not fit in with the recording plans Labyrinth had at the time and ultimately their work together stalled. (Tiranti would eventually rejoin Labyrinth and release a new record, "Architecture of a God".) Despite not getting to work together in Labyrinth, Mark and Olaf remained in touch and when the occasion arose, by suggestion from Frontiers, the two artists took the opportunity to work together and thus the Shining Black project was born.

Shining Black's second album will once again delight power metal fans with its accomplished musicianship and empowering vocals. Euro-metal fans get excited!

Riverside's Memories in My Head is a three-song EP running 32 and a half minutes, and, that's right, that means each track is around ten or 11 minutes long. In practice, they segue into each other, however, making for a single lengthy suite. As the overall disc title and the individual song titles -- "Goodbye Sweet Innocence," "Living in the Past," and "Forgotten Land" -- suggest, the theme has to do with recollections and regrets about a time period that has disappeared. "What happened to our days," wonders singer Mariusz Duda in "Living in the Past," "They used to be so full of life." The stretched-out tracks contain simple, repetitive patterns, inclining toward a reflective tone. This is a band that easily could have been a Pink Floyd tribute group, and there are frequent specific references to albums like The Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here. Like David Gilmour, Duda sings in a calm, quiet tone, again befitting the wistfulness of the message. While fans might have wished for a full-length Riverside album, this shorter work has a consistency it might be difficult to maintain over greater length.

Danger Money is the second studio album by the progressive rock supergroup U.K., featuring John Wetton, Eddie Jobson and Terry Bozzio. John Wetton rose to fame with bands Mogul Thrash, Family, King Crimson, Roxy Music/Bryan Ferry, Uriah Heep, and Wishbone Ash. Whilst Eddie Jobson has been a member of several progressive rock bands, including Curved Air, Roxy Music, UK, Jethro Tull and (very briefly) Yes. He was also part of Frank Zappa's band in 1976?77. And Terry Bozzio is best known for his work with Missing Persons and Frank Zappa. The album was released by E.G. Records / Polydor in March 1979. "The Only Thing She Needs", "Caesar's Palace Blues" and "Carrying No Cross" had been performed on tour throughout 1978 (and an early version of "Carrying No Cross" included what became the intro to the title track) by the band's original line-up with Bill Bruford and Allan Holdsworth. "Rendezvous 6:02" and "Nothing to Lose" were both released as singles.

Though his 2019 album Hotel Diablo mostly continued the commercial rap style that made Machine Gun Kelly famous, the record closed with "I Think I'm Okay," a melodic rock song featuring guest appearances from U.K. vocalist YUNGBLUD and blink-182's Travis Barker. The catchy tune injected Machine Gun Kelly's emotionally raw lyricism into a template of spirited guitar-driven pop-punk and it became a huge hit. For fifth album Tickets to My Downfall, Machine Gun Kelly commits fully to the pop-punk style that was hinted at with "I Think I'm Okay," making a bold-faced turn from moody rap songs to blasts of distorted guitar, uptempo drums, and vocal harmonies right out of the early-2000s mall punk playbook. Travis Barker is again a frequent collaborator, producing the album as well as contributing drums and occasionally co-writing some songs. This direct association might be part of why Tickets to My Downfall sounds inarguably enamored with blink-182, with songs like "Bloody Valentine," pained ballad "Play This When I'm Gone," and the explosive "Title Track" following blink's blueprint of straightforward melodies, huge hooks, and cathartic choruses. The rap elements of the past aren't completely scrubbed clean, with trap drums added to the mix of tunes like "Drunk Face," and cameo appearances from rappers like Trippie Redd and Blackbear. Even still, when Trippie Redd shows up on "All I Know," he's not rapping as much as singing some melodic lines that play nicely with the emo-rock format of the song. The themes of self-destruction, tainted romance, and struggles with depression that were often visited on Machine Gun Kelly's earlier material translate seamlessly from tormented rap to heart-aching pop-punk. Songs like the lovelorn and dramatic "My Ex's Best Friend" might have a delivery that's worlds away from the brooding rap he's known for, but he's still singing about the same problems as always. The profound stylistic upset of Tickets to My Downfall will leave some listeners flat, simply because what they enjoyed about Machine Gun Kelly as a rapper might be harder to find in his pop-punk songs. For those willing to come along for the ride, the album serves as a sincere and somewhat nostalgic embrace of pop-punk from the Myspace era. Machine Gun Kelly's personality is still at the heart of every song, even when trading 808 beats for crunchy guitar riffs. While some songs are more interesting than others and some tend too close to blink-182 worship, Tickets to My Downfall succeeds more than it falters. While it would rank as a slightly above average album for any given pop-punk band, there's an added excitement in how risky this about-face is for a multi-platinum artist who could have easily turned in the same record he made last time.

One can't help but see in Ghost and its multitasking omnipotent leader Tobias Forge the worthy successor of a shock rock so dear to Alice Cooper. More than just a band, it is a complete immersion in a show, in which everything is connected. But like with Cooper, nothing must be overlooked, especially not the music. Indeed, if the whole structure holds together, it is mostly thanks to a devilishly effective sound, for which nothing is left to chance in Forge's meticulous compositions. This is why Ghost succeeds where some rare and brave bands have failed in the past thirty years, like Demon, who tried a rather similar approach as early as 1983. They are often criticized for their lack of creativity, but how many bands really do manage to blend genres without it resulting in an unpalatable stew? With four albums and two EPs, Ghost has not only forged a style identifiable from the very first listen, but it also keeps on improving by thoughtfully and cleverly integrating increasingly varied ingredients to its sound. To the point of taking up the saxophone, or collaborating with a specialist (Gavin Fitzjohn on Miasma).

This Prequelle doesn't evoke Blue Öyster Cult as much as numerous bands that brought glory to the AOR genre (for album-oriented rock, which later became adult-oriented rock) in the United States, or hard FM on our side of the pond. Particularly these bands that had a hint of progressive about them, like Zebra, Triumph, Styx, or pop, like Cheap Trick, Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, Toto, Winger, and at last a touch of pomp like Queen, Meat Loaf and Ambrosia. More than ever, Forge, a.k.a. Cardinal Copia, was able to shake things up and add a variety to his style, even if his talent for metal shows rather in quality than quantity. Except for the powerful and contagious Rats - which bears a striking resemblance to Ozzy in his The Ultimate Sin days −, the song Faith − which appears to be in the same vein as Dio's The Last in Line − and a Dance Macabre worthy of Scorpion (a song which evokes the Germans' Big City Nights), the album favours lighter, more melodic songs, even atmospheric - but not drowsy - instrumentals. Worth pointing out is this Helvetesfonster, quite similar to Steve Wilson and Mikael Åkerfeldt's project Storm Corrosion, and with good reason as they contributed stunning acoustic guitar parts. Ghost has even become an expert on finely carved ballads, as illustrated by an almost symphonic Pro Memoria. When Life Eternal, the other plainer ballad, ends, Prequelle leaves the impression of being cut short, which is not necessarily a bad thing. With ten tracks and over forty minutes of music, i.e. one less than Meliora, it falls on the good side of average. Some will argue that the album is missing one or two catchy tunes worthy of the unstoppable Square Hammer. Belgian Metal frontrunners EVIL INVADERS unleash their third album, Shattering Reflection via Napalm Records! It took the band almost five years to craft a new record and it has been undoubtably worth the wait. EVIL INVADERS have found the perfect balance between fast, mid and slow tempo songs focusing on strong choruses, touching lyrics and even some progressive touches that will grab every Heavy Metal fan by the throat and screaming for more! EVIL INVADERS's Shattering Reflection is promising to be a game-changer for the Belgian 4-piece as the band seems to have found their own formula to turn Heavy Metal into another extreme direction.
Shattering Reflection takes off with a fast Heavy Metal banger "Hissing in Crescendo", followed by the epic anthem "Die For Me", already destined to become an EVIL INVADERS's all-time classic. A calmer side is explored on tracks like mid-tempo opus "Forgotten Memories", creating a dense, heavy wall of sound with piercing vocals and ditto lyrics underlined by guitar solo virtuosity. That thrilling epos stands in line with "In Deepest Black", which showcases even more how the band has managed to craft a pure classic Heavy Metal anthem with melodic guitar lines and catchy choruses, creeping relentlessly into the listener's head. It also proves how Joe has matured as his vocals have entered a whole new dimension, both in the high and the low ranges. On the contrary, "Sledgehammer Justice" is a furious outburst of classic Thrash/Speed Metal in which the Belgian quartet goes full throttle with hammering rhythms and guitar solo madness! Another album highlight is the dark opus "The Circle", creating a horrifying atmosphere with stomping drums and excellent guitar lines. Fans of King Diamond will definitely dig this one! Throughout the album the band manages to keep the balance between fast Extreme Heavy Metal with sharp shredding and mosh-worthy tracks, as well as very melodic, more intense and chorus-oriented midtempo anthems.
Shattering Reflection has turned out to be a monster of an album that will prove that in a new generation of Metal bands, EVIL INVADERS have been able to develop and mature record after record, just like the great classics did in the good old days.
