Bad Animals is the ninth studio album by American rock band Heart, released on June 6, 1987, by Capitol Records. The album continues the mainstream hard rock style from the band's 1985 self-titled release, all while enjoying similar success.

"Switching from Epic to Capitol with 1985's Heart proved to be a wise move for the Wilson sisters, who experienced a major resurgence in popularity and gained many new followers. Heart's arena rock sound had become even glossier, and the band was selling more albums than ever. But for all its production gloss (courtesy of Ron Nevison) and pop slickness, Bad Animals comes across as sincere rather than formulaic or cynical. From the rockers "You Ain't Too Tough" and "Easy Target" to the power ballads "Alone" and "Wait for an Answer," all of the songs are quite memorable. The folk elements and acoustic leanings that characterized many of Heart's early ballads were long gone, and the Wilson sisters keep the volume high but slow the tempo." (Alex Henderson, AMG)

When Fleetwood Mac released its first live album in December 1980, it captured the legendary band's most iconic lineup on stage demonstrating the full scope of their collective, creative powers. Recorded mostly during the world tour for TUSK, FLEETWOOD MAC LIVE delivered a double-album's worth of exhilarating performances that included massive hits like "Dreams" and "Go Your Own Way," "Rhiannon," and "Don't Stop."

The original album, produced by the band with Ken Caillat and Richard Dashut, was culled primarily from the 1979-1980 Tusk tour but with a few additions from the 1977 tour supporting Rumours. It was a truly international affair, with songs recorded in cities including Tokyo, Paris, London, Nashville, Kansas City, Tucson, Cleveland, Santa Monica, St. Louis, and Oklahoma City. The band dug back to the Peter Green days for "Oh Well" but mostly celebrated their recent triumphs such as "Say You Love Me," "Dreams," "Monday Morning," "Sara," "Landslide," "Over My Head," "Rhiannon," and "Don't Stop." One rarity was "Don't Let Me Down Again" from Buckingham Nicks, as captured in Passaic, New Jersey in 1975. Three new songs premiered on Live, too: Christine McVie's "One More Night," Stevie Nicks' "Fireflies," and a "backstage" rendition of Brian Wilson and Mike Love's Beach Boys oldie "Farmer's Daughter" with rich Mac harmonies. Both "Fireflies" and "Farmer's Daughter" were issued as singles, with the former peaking at No. 60 on the Hot 100. The album itself reached No. 14 on the Billboard 200 and No. 31 on the U.K. Albums Chart.

JMJ created the music to the vision of Sebastiao Salgado

Jean-Michel Jarre has composed and recorded a 52 minute musical score for "Amazônia", a new project by award winning photographer and filmmaker Sebastião Salgado, for the Philharmonic Paris. The exhibition launches on April 7th and will later travel to South America, Roma and London.

"Amazônia" is an immersive exhibition focussing on the Brazilian Amazon, featuring more than 200 photographs and other media by Salgado. He travelled the region for six years, capturing the forest, the rivers, the mountains and the people who live there, and most of the work will be seen publicly for the first time. At the heart of the exhibit is an invitation to see, hear and think about the future of biodiversity and the place of humans in the living world.

JMJs accompanying sound-creation is a symphonic world which will engulf visitors to the exhibit in the sounds of the forest. Using a blend of electronic and orchestral instruments with other real-life natural sounds, the score has also been recorded in binaural audio, for a truly immersive experience.

"I wanted to avoid the ethnomusicological approach, or creating background music. So I conceived a sort of toolbox containing musical elements - orchestral and electronic - intended to recreate or evoke the timbre of natural sounds, to which I added sounds from the environment, and finally ethnic sources (voices, songs, and instruments) from the sound archives of the Ethnography Museum of Geneva (MEG). I approached the Amazon with respect, in a poetic and impressionistic way. I chose the vocal and sound elements in their evocative dimension, rather than trying to be faithful to a particular ethnic group. It seemed interesting to me to fantasise the forest. It carries with it a powerful imagination; for both Westerners and Amerindians. This music also evokes a form of nomadism, as if sounds appear and disappear during a migration. It was necessary to go back to the principles of orchestration of the sounds of nature, to work from sounds which follow one another randomly, but which can compose a harmony or a dissonance. And as in any symphony, the work has moments of clarity or tension." (Jean-Michel Jarre)

Bryan Ferry's concerts at the Royal Albert Hall, London in March 2020 were the triumphant culmination of the UK leg of a scheduled world tour that would be suddenly curtailed by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Preceded by concerts in Glasgow, Newcastle, Manchester and Leicester, Ferry and his band showcased a new set of songs drawn from his solo career and the iconic Roxy Music catalogue, some recorded live for the first time.

Dust emerged in July 1996, featuring guest spots from Benmont Tench, on loan from Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, and Pearl Jam's Mike McCready. Mixed by Andy Wallace (Nirvana, Jeff Buckley, White Zombie), the album kicks off with the visceral Halo Of Ashes, driven by Garry Lee Conner's electric sitar, followed by the psychedelic single, All I Know and the plaintive Sworn And Broken. The Screaming Trees one-upped their major-label debut, Uncle Anesthesia, with this solid, vastly underrated effort. Sweet Oblivion's lead single, the jumpy hard rocker "Nearly Lost You," proved itself a highlight on the hugely successful, Seattle-themed Singles soundtrack. But even though the Screaming Trees stacked up quite well against their more famous peers in that particular showcase, the exposure didn't make them stars. Perhaps it was because Sweet Oblivion had been released several months before Singles, and the band thus couldn't build a sense of anticipation for a new album release, the way Alice in Chains and Smashing Pumpkins did for Dirt and Siamese Dream, respectively; nor could they capitalize on the extra publicity that goes along with new releases. For whatever reason, Singles didn't push sales of Sweet Oblivion, as the latter only scraped the lower reaches of the Billboard charts. And that's a shame, because the record is quite good -- the best songs here are easily among the best in their catalog, and the songwriting was their most consistent yet. "Nearly Lost You" is a standout, of course, but "Dollar Bill," "Shadow of the Season," and "Butterfly" are nearly as impressive. Mark Lanegan's raspy voice conveys a weary wistfulness that adds an unexpected dimension to the group's otherwise macho garage-psych grunge. The Trees no longer sound all that punkish, trading in some of their early, noisy fury for a more '70s-indebted hard rock sound, but it's done with a graceful power that proves they were at least the equal of their more famous fellow scenesters. Unfortunately, the four-year hiatus between Sweet Oblivion and its follow-up, Dust, ensured that the band would be forever relegated to cult status.

Sunrise Avenue released a new double live album with the Wonderland Orchestra. In 2015, Sunrise Avenue thrilled their fans in Hannover with an exclusive orchestra show, which was completely sold out. Hard times call for big riffs. Following closely on the heels of the band's last album from 2020, Kingdom Of Oblivion swings further back toward the heavier Motorpsychodelia of Heavy Metal Fruit while still pushing forward in characteristic style.

One would think that after the "Gullvag Trilogy" - two double and a single album in a mere three years - this ultra productive trio might be in need of a break of sorts. but on the other hand, riding a golden wave like never before in their 30+ year existence, why stop now? Especially when constantly upping their own quality standards.The bulk of the album was recorded in France back before the pandemic, but was added to, expanded, tweaked and eventually finished last year.

The initial idea was to collect big riffs on one album and do a pure hard rock record, but the objective changed along the way as they rediscovered their folkish bent and how this lighter touch gave it all a nice contrast. That said, the main musical thrust is pretty full-on, even by Motorpsycho standards.

Kingdom of Oblivion was mixed by Andrew Scheps and produced by Bent S?ther.Reine Fiske guests on several tracks.Cover art is by Sverre Malling and cover design is by Havard Gjelseth.

A terrific solo debut that was unfortunately never matched by its follow ups, this album fulfilled the promise he showed with Grin and his stint with Crazy Horse.

As Nils himself puts it in his notes for our Real Gone reissue of this classic record, My first self-titled solo album, affectionately nicknamed the Fat Man album [after the front cover photo], remains a colorful and dramatic chapter in my musical and personal life. And still, one of my best albums. Indeed, this 1975 release spawned a couple of instant classics in Back It Up and the Keith Richards homage Keith Don t Go (Ode to the Glimmer Twin), plus an exceptional cover of Carole King s Goin Back among its many high points. And while some fans familiar with Nils work with Grin and Neil Young were expecting more guitar flash, the spare production by David Briggs and the funky, sympathetic rhythm section of Aynsley Dunbar and Wornell Jones put the focus where it belonged: on the songs. The reputation of this album has only grown over the years, but its only recent appearance on CD in this country was on a long out of print limited edition release; our Real Gone version features liner notes from Nils that take you behind the scenes in the studio and even on the album art photo shoot, and adds some rare pictures to boot. You gotta have this one if you re a 70s rocker.

This 1975 release spawned a couple of instant classics in 'Back It Up', 'If I Say It, It's So', 'Can't Buy A Break', the Keith Richards homage 'Keith Don't Go (Ode to the Glimmer Twin)', plus an exceptional cover of Carole King's 'Goin' Back' among its many high points. While most of the discussions of Frank Zappa have to do with his satirical and off-color lyrics, the fact remains that he was one of the finest and most underappreciated guitarists around. This collection places the spotlight squarely on Zappa's mastery of the guitar. Recorded for the most part in 1979 and 1980 (with a few tracks dating as far back as 1977), Shut Up 'n Play Yer Guitar is simply a collection of guitar solos. Even though most of the tracks were just edited out of their original song context, they fare well as stand-alone pieces, as Zappa was an ever-inventive player. Take, for example, the three versions of "Shut Up." These tracks were simply the guitar solos from "Inca Roads," but thanks to Zappa's ability for "instant composition," each version has its own complete story to tell, without ever being redundant. Other highlights are the reggae-tinged "Treacherous Cretins" and the beautiful "Pink Napkins." In addition to the electric guitar mangling contained on Shut Up 'n Play Yer Guitar, there are a couple of rare tracks that feature Zappa on acoustic guitar in a trio with Warren Cuccurullo on acoustic rhythm guitar and Vinnie Colaiuta on drums. In fact, special mention goes to Colaiuta for his polyrhythmic daring all over this album. All bandmembers play great throughout, but Colaiuta's playing is mind blowing. The album closes with another oddity: a gorgeous duet between Zappa on electric bouzouki and Jean-Luc Ponty on baritone violin. This is an album that should be heard by anyone who's into guitar playing

Tommy's RockTrip is drummer Tommy Clufetos' (Ozzy Osbourne, Black Sabbath) new hard rock outfit, where he offers his take on the rock 'n roll influences that made him one of the most sought after drummers in the current hard rock scene. "Beat Up By Rock 'N' Roll", the debut album, is an in-your-face, honest, kick ass hard rock album. Sonic Haven is a new metal band conceived and fronted by vocalist Herbie Langhans, one of the most gifted metal singers of the current European metal scene.

Seventh Crystal, a stunning new rock band from the fertile Swedish music scene, was put together by singer Kristian Fyhr. Initially, Kristian wanted to pursue a solo project, but when the songs started to take form, he realized he wanted to involve more musicians. So, he moved to vocals only and brought in Johan Älvsång (Pinstripe Conspiracy, Lamashtu) on keyboards/piano and Olof Gadd (Osukaru) on bass as the first key pieces, and then recruited Anton Roos on drums and Emil Dornerus on guitar to complete the line-up.

Seventh Crystal's music can best be described as arena hard rock with melodic rock influences. The band comments, "We would describe the band's music and sound as an "intelligent" hard rock, but still very melodic. Our songwriting is very varied. We like to write songs in a pop style and then "beef" them up and make it rock. We're big admirers of everything from Cheiron Studio and Max Martin to Behemoth and Iron Maiden. So our influences come from a lot of different bands and music. But we kind of end up in the modern hard rock and arena rock sound, since that's where we have our common roots. When it comes to the songwriting, it is usually one or two of us who write the basic idea. But then each member adds their own touch and flavour and what comes out is the heavy, intriguing and exciting sound of Seventh Crystal!"

If you love the new wave of Scandinavian hard rock embodied by bands such as One Desire, H.E.A.T., and other bands who bring a huge sense of melody to modern rock, then this band is going to be right up your alley. Their forthcoming debut album will be hard to top as THE debut album of 2021.

ANTHRAX drummer Charlie Benante released a brand new album, "Silver Linings", May 14 via Megaforce Records. The 14-track effort features an all-star cast of "who's who" in the thrash, metal, and rock worlds, with all cuts culled from Benante's acclaimed "quarantine jam" video series.
Throughout the quarantine video series, Benante collaborated on jams with fellow ANTHRAX bandmates Frank Bello, Scott Ian and Jon Donais, his girlfriend Carla Harvey (BUTCHER BABIES), Corey Taylor (SLIPKNOT), Ra Diaz (SUICIDAL TENDENCIES), Mark Osegueda (DEATH ANGEL), John 5 (ROB ZOMBIE) and Alex Skolnick (TESTAMENT), among many more. This extensive collection features the Australian sextet's first nine studio albums (recorded between 1980 and 1993), especially mastered . Anyone looking to take a crash course in all things Michael Hutchence and the Farriss brothers or to upgrade their INXS collection will be well-served. Of the albums that Michael Hutchence appeared on, only 1997's Elegantly Wasted isn't included. The story being told here isn't just the evolution of INXS as a band but of the music world of the '80s and '90s taking shape. By the time the set reaches 1982's Shabooh Shoobah, the identifiable INXS sound is coming together with shades of Hutchence's Mick Jagger/Jim Morrison lead-singer phrasings and the technically precise dance rock that further guides 1984's The Swing and 1985's Listen Like Thieves. It was, of course, 1987's Kick that defined the group once and for all, with powerful dance grooves and hit songs that encompass pop, rock, and funk.
