In the mid-'70s, long after The Beatles had officially parted ways, John Lennon recorded a series of demos straight to cassette tape in his home in New York City. After his death in 1980, his wife, Yoko Ono, passed the tapes to the remaining Beatles, and in 1995, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and George Harrison began work on a trio of new Beatles songs born from Lennon's sketches. You've heard a couple of them before-"Real Love" and "Free as a Bird"-but one of them never came to fruition during those sessions. "When we started 'Now and Then,' it was very difficult because John was sort of hidden in a way," said Starr in a documentary about how The Beatles' final song came together. "In John's demo tape, the piano was a little hard to hear," said McCartney. They put together some of the song's building blocks, including having Harrison record guitar parts for the song. But they couldn't properly isolate Lennon's vocals from his piano. So "'Now and Then' just kind of languished in a cupboard," McCartney said.

Fast-forward to 2022. Using machine-learning technology that director Peter Jackson's team had developed for the 2021 Beatles documentary Get Back, engineers were able to separate Lennon's voice from his original demo of "Now and Then," finally allowing the remaining Beatles to finish the track. "It's like John's there," said Ringo of the now-crystalline vocal track. "It's far out." Paul and producer Giles Martin (son of Beatles producer George Martin) were then able to assemble John's 1970s vocals with George's 1995 guitar lines and Paul and Ringo's new vocal and instrumental parts, as well as a string arrangement, to complete the song. Bearing the signatures of all four Beatles, it's a doleful ballad and a poignant good-bye, with lyrics-"And if you go away, I'll know you're there"-that resonate far beyond their initial intentions.

Van Morrison unveils his 45th studio album, Accentuate the Positives electrifying homage to rock 'n' roll is launched alongside its first single, a new take on the Johnny Kidd classic 'Shakin' All Over'.

Like this year's acclaimed 'Moving On Skiffle', 'Accentuate The Positive' sees Van Morrison returning to one of his childhood passions: this time rock 'n' roll. Growing up in Belfast shortly after World War II, he was immensely inspired by the heady sounds of 20th century blues and rock 'n' roll. Listening to artists such as Fats Domino, Chuck Berry and The Everly Brothers, it wasn't long until Van was intuitively reinterpreting these sounds with his own band in local hometown venues.

Several decades later, Van Morrison now revisits the genre by reimagining some of his personal favourites for 'Accentuate The Positive', and infusing those timeless songs with an energy that constantly challenges and expands upon its traditions. Van's inimitable voice combined with superb arrangements and highly accomplished brings a fresh zeal to such great songs as The Johnny Burnette Trio's, 'Lonesome Train', JohnnyKidd & The Pirates', 'Shakin' All Over' and Big Joe Turner's pioneering rock 'n' roll hit, 'Flip, Flop and Fly'.

Contributors to the album include electric guitar from the late Jeff Beck and vocals from Chris Farlowe on, 'Lonesome Train', plus guitar from Taj Mahal on, 'Lucille' and, 'Shake, Rattle and Roll'.

The Harmony Codex - the seventh album by Steven Wilson - is a genre-spanning collection that represents the apotheosis of a life spent fully absorbed in music.

King Crimson's 1973 album Larks' Tongues in Aspic is reissued for its 50th anniversary in an all encompassing four-disc set that includes brand new Steven Wilson Dolby Atmos, 5.1 and stereo mixes and "the complete recordings of every session recorded for the album".

This set comprises two blu-ray audio discs and two CDs. The first blu-ray contains Steven Wilson's brand new Dolby Atmos Mix which is described as "more expansive than the earlier mixes as released in 2012, while still retaining and enhancing the core power of the original material". Since Wilson's Atmos process involves going back to the multi-track tapes and first building a new stereo mix and then a 5.1 surround mix, we are presented with three brand news mixes for this product.

While Steven was working on this aspect of the material Alex R. Mundy and David Singleton were mixing every single take of the original studio sessions. These unreleased early takes are presented not as traditionally blended pieces, but with maximum separation, with the idea being to mimic the experience of sitting in the studio with the individual elements being performed around you.
