The Big Express (1984) is the seventh in a series of expanded XTC album reissues, including 5.1 Surround mixes, Dolby Atmos (for the first time with an XTC album), 2023 stereo mixes and High-Resolution stereo mixes by Steven Wilson, along with a wealth of extra audio and visual material.

A neglected classic of its era, the album creatively fused the band's immense songwriting gifts with the technology of the day to produce a vibrant Post-Punk concept album about growing up in an industrial town.

"The Big Express is the closest we ever came to recording a 'concept' album. It's full of Swindon and deep seams of life there, that run through myself, Colin, and Dave, (Terry too of course). In retrospect, it's a bit shocking how fully formed the signature Aerosmith sound was on their self-titled 1973 debut -- which may not be the same thing as best-executed, because this album still sounds like a first album, complete with the typical stumbles and haziness that comes with a debut. Despite all this, Aerosmith clearly showcases all the attributes of the band that would become the defining American hard rock band of the '70s. Here, the Stones influences are readily apparent, from the Jagger-esque phrasing of Steven Tyler to the group's high-octane boogie, but the group displays little of the Stones' deep love of blues here. Instead, Aerosmith is bloozy -- their riffs don't swing, they slide. They borrow liberally from Led Zeppelin's hybridization of Chess and Sun riffs without ever sounding much like Zep. They are never as British as Zeppelin -- they lack the delicate folky preciousness, they lack the obsession with blues authenticity, they lack the larger-than-life persona of so many Brit bands. They are truly an American band, sounding as though they were the best bar band in your local town, cranking out nasty hard-edged rock, best heard on "Mama Kin," the best rocker here, one that's so greasy it nearly slips through their fingers. But the early masterpiece is, of course, "Dream On," the first full-fledged power ballad. There was nothing quite like it in 1973, and it remains the blueprint for all power ballads since. The rest of the record contains the seeds of Aerosmith's sleazoid blues-rock, but they wouldn't quite perfect that sound until the next time around.

Vitalines is a new melodic rock alliance formed by two real luminaries of the genre. On one side the "voice from heaven" Robbie LaBlanc, the singer of Blanc Faces and Find Me who has also recently appeared on the T3nors album. On the other, one of the most esteemed and capable songwriters and musicians of the genre, the Swedish studio wizard Tommy Denander.

The two musicians have been planning to work together on a pure Melodic Rock album for several years and when the right time came, both took immediately the chance to build up another exciting musical alliance. The bar was set very high and the result is the fantastic "Wheels Within Wheels": an amazing journey between melodies, guitar riffs, superb keys and spectacular vocals.

Chrome Lakes unlocks a big sound with their third record, Death at the Opera House. Heavy yet melodic guitars and an aggressive rhythm section merge with pop sensibilities, showcasing the band's ability to walk the line between their more hardcore and pop tendencies. The record offers songs that are both working class anthems and earnest explorations of grief and suffering. The songs are rebelliously hopeful though, and their blistering guitars feel beefed up, harkening the second half of the 90's distortion like Hum and White Pony era Deftones.

These songs are wild and frantic, chasing down a feeling about finding humanity in a world glitched out, jacked in, and still barely kicking. Each track harnesses the alienation and frustration of a generation living through gig economies, endless war, unsatisfying labor, and proliferating grief. You can feel it in the songs, even before the lyrics kick in. But sonically this band remains cohesive and patient. It's easy for a band to yell about the disillusionment and the failures of the world, but it's hard for a band to do it well-something Chrome Lakes leans into with the practiced hands of a collective. The potential chaos of each song is harnessed by a patience that comes from the band's maturity and collaborative approach.

Unlike a lot of bands who lose their angst and soften over time, Chrome Lakes turns up, plays harder, and produces a record that showcases a crystalized realization of their sound. Sometimes heavier, sometimes chunkier, sometimes faster, held together by their collaborative spirit and Chad Fox's crooning storytelling. The lyrics circle around the need to escape and the need to fight for the people we love. There is a trauma-bonded kind of trust unfolding in these songs, and so there isn't a rush to get out of the songs. Experience tells them to wait, let the song end organically. Maybe Fox and the band have a lot to say, the angst of their previous records having evolved into a kind of anger, but the record is not full of resentment or bitterness or even righteousness, but hopefulness. Though grief finds us and death is always lurking, these songs tell us, we can make it if we find our people. The songs tell us to mourn and heal, then find companionship in this gutted out ride through the future-present of a dying world toward a future ripe with the possibility for change.

With a critically acclaimed, self-titled debut album under their belt, Vambo a release of their second studio album, 'Vambo II'. Featuring twelve tracks, the album serves as a showcase for the band's formidable musical talent and high-energy performances. The songs on the record offer a blend of melodic choruses, hard-hitting riffs, and dynamic guitar solos, promising an exciting listening experience that builds upon their signature sound, whilst also pushing new, creative boundaries. Drawing inspiration from both 'classic' rock sensibilities and contemporary influences, the album presents a fresh and innovative approach to the genre. Produced by Ray Stiles, former member of the 70's glam rockers MUD and longstanding member of The Hollies. All songs on 'Vambo II' were written and recorded at Ray's studio in Surrey, England.

Meet Vambo - Jack Stiles, vocals, with his captivating presence and powerhouse voice, is a magnetic force at the centre stage. On guitar, Pete Lance, unleashing a thunderous energy that seizes the audience's attention from the very first power chord. David Flitt, a dynamic drummer who is the driving force behind Vambo's signature style, which blends power and subtlety. Finally, James Scott's provocative bass lines underpin every performance, adding depth and vigour to Vambo's music.

As seen in Classic Rock Magazine's 'High Hopes' spread, Vambo have established themselves as a rising force in the rock scene, one that is not to be overlooked. They are no strangers to the live circuit, having played shows and major festivals throughout Europe, including Download Festival, Isle of Wight Festival and Stone Free Festival. They have toured extensively in the UK, supporting other acclaimed acts such as Jared James Nichols, Y&T, Praying Mantis, Stray and Cats in Space.
