On Paramore's first album in five years, singer Hayley Williams is worn out by the world-but weariness has never sounded more appealing. Opener "This Is Why" serves up disco-diva vocals and liquid-gold Chic-style bass for a tune about paranoia ("This is why I don't leave the house/ You said the coast is clear/ But you won't catch me out") and the encroaching dangers of social media. "If you have an opinion/ maybe you should shove it . might be best to keep it to yourself," sings Williams, who stepped away from Instagram a while back with the intention of "looking up and out, rather than down." The suck of screen time-and how modern-day doom scrolling both brings us together as a community but also causes dissociation-is also the theme of "The News:" "So far from the faultline . I'm safe inside/ But I worry and I give money/ And I feel useless behind this computer," she sings, while the percussion skitters. Deliciously, it would've fit right in on the band's 2007 classic Riot! But they've learned a lot since that album, including how a velvet hammer is just as effective as nonstop thunderous bludgeoning. Songs like "Figure 8" and angular "You First" (featuring the great line "I'm both the killer and the final girl") mix emo hallmarks and more subtle, even lush dynamics. "Running Out of Time"-with its lament of there never being enough time to do everything you want or feel obligated to do-finds Williams trying on silky, Lisa Stansfield-style vocals on the verses and pure agitation elsewhere, against funky guitar and drum splashes. She also gets playfully experimental with "C'est Comme Ca," a punky track that finds the singer trying on an affect that is a little bit goth and a little bit Rockwell a la "Somebody's Watching Me:" "In a single year, I've aged one hundred/ My social life, a chiropractic appointment/ Sit still long enough to listen to yourself/ Or maybe just long enough for you to atrophy to hell." (That said, the singer has admitted that "I'm trying to get un-addicted to a survival narrative.") There's a floaty ballad ("Liar"), tense post-punk guitars contrasted with disco-ball dreaminess ("Big Man, Little Dignity") and a plush Cocteau Twins moment ("Crave"). "Trench of Loneliness" is the fourth album of Iterum Nata - a psychedelic folk-rock project by Finnish multi-instrumentalist Jesse Heikkinen. While the music is occasionally upbeat, the general atmosphere has more in common with neo-folk than Jesse's former band: Hexvessel, for whom he played lead guitar for five years. All aspects of Iterum Nata are profoundly inspired by the pagan worldview, esotericism, and the dark regions of the human mind; the result is something that could easily pass as the bastard offspring of Rome, Tenhi, Of the Wand & the Moon, Linda Perhacs, Espers, and early King Crimson.

"Trench of Loneliness" was recorded at Studio Beyond North Star. With the exception of Hiski Pajuniemi's appearance on tin whistle, Jesse handled everything - from the composition to tracking and mixing - entirely by himself.

The project was formed in 2017, following Jesse's move from Oulu to Tampere. After years of playing other people's music in various ensembles, all the while longing to write and perform his own material, he conceptualised and founded Iterum Nata. The band name is Latin for 'born again' and was chosen as a reference to how a person must always redefine himself - meaning, undergo a rebirth of sorts - in the wake of a powerful experience.

One year after the self-released eponymous debut from 2017 came "The Course of Empire" on Inverse Records. The second Iterum Nata album caught the eye of Finnish label Svart Records, and the critically acclaimed "Bardo Disorder" came out in 2020. Once Jesse had finished the material for the fourth record, he concluded that Nordvis was the perfect fit for his vision of "Trench of Loneliness".

The two long-time collaborators met in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada in 2005 and have been working together ever since. Originally brought together to work on Simon's solo career, the spark of creativity between Simon and Kelly was undeniable. They soon began writing original material together, much of which would end up on Dimensionaut.

With a successful progressive rock album under their belts, Simon and Kelly were determined to continue the work they started with Sound of Contact. During the UK production of Simon's 4th solo album "Becoming Human", Kelly recorded a demo of the song "eMolecule" in a flurry of inspiration. With this new offering, Simon and Kelly decided their way forward was as a duo and they would pool their best material under the name eMolecule.

In the summer of 2020, Emolecule decided it was time to begin work on their debut album and that it was to be a concept album. Meeting in person at Simon's studio in Ireland, the duo spent a solid month writing the concept and music start to finish. Over the following months, they completed writing, producing and performing 'The Architect' both remotely and together in Ireland. The Architect features intense, heavy guitar and drum performances as well as deep, atmospheric and emotionally driven arrangements. From start to finish, Emolecule's first offering captivates the listener with infectious vocals, dynamic guitars and ultra-modern production from the epic opening track 'eMolecule" to the powerful climax of the closing track "Moment of Truth". This band and album are set to take the listener to another dimension.

Who's the punkest guitar-hero around? It's Jeff Beck! Punk in spirit, obviously. As in, "I do what I want, when I want!" At the heart of the Yardbirds, who also welcomed Jimmy Page and Robert Plant into their fold, Beck's the one who makes the strings bleed, or rips them off entirely, like in the famous scene from Antonioni's cult film, Blow Up. When he was expected to go rock, he went jazz-rock. When a voice interested him (Rod "the Mod" Stewart's, for instance) he made a carnal fusion with it. And if, out of nowhere, he felt he wanted to remind the world who his idol was (Cliff Gallup, guitarist from Gene Vincent), he'd just make a tribute album, like he did with the delicious Crazy Legs in 1993.

"Even if I had to do the cover of a magazine like Guitar World 400 times, I'm not that kind of guy! I'm not of that world!" It's good to know that nothing is for free in this eclectic disque, which alternates between blues, funk rock, electro metal, jazz rock and pure soul. Loud Hailer proves that Jeff Beck thinks about the music before he thinks about the guitar. And that's probably what distinguishes him from everybody else.

In the autobiography Beck 01, John McLaghlin begins the preface by stating: "Jeff Beck is my all time favourite guitarist. Now what can I say?" Nothing. Just listen to Loud Hailer.

Stephan Lill is the guitarist and musical backbone of the internationally known progressive metal band Vanden Plas. From the very beginning, he has been a huge influence on the sound and musical development of the band with his songwriting. Outside of Vanden Plas, Lill has also left his mark with his involvement in the rock operas/theater productions "Ludus Danielis," "Christ 0," "The Chronicles of the Immortals," "Everyman," and "Last Paradise Lost".
Andy Kuntz is the charismatic and talented singer of Vanden Plas. With his distinctive voice, he moves effortlessly through all levels of vocal register and has established himself internationally as not only a rock/metal singer, but also as a lead in multiple rock musicals and operas. As the main lyricist and writer of the vocal melodies for Vanden Plas, he is the other musical mainstay and partner in crime with Lill in not only the band, but the aforementioned rock operas.

Eric Clapton, one of music's most influential and successful recording artists, joined Reprise Records in 1983, launching a prolific period that spans 30 years and encompasses some of his most celebrated work.

The final album in the collection, Rarities (1983-1998) brings together eight rare recordings from this era, including live versions of "White Room" and "Crossroads" that were both featured on the B-side on the 1987 single "Behind The Mask." Another B-side, "Theme From A Movie That Never Happened" (Orchestral), appeared in 1998 on the Grammy-winning single, "My Father's Eyes."

Avatar has to keep a lot of plates spinning on Dance Devil Dance. Frontman Johannes Eckerström and his band of clown-painted misfits have gained a global following in the last ten years for their modernized take on the nü-metal formula. The novelty clearly hasn't worn off, and album number nine arrives just as Avatar is due for a style change. They've thrown everything but the kitchen sink into this one, mixing sounds from across the metal spectrum including King Diamond, Rammstein, Mushroomhead, and In Flames. It's loud, it's baffling, it's occasionally catchy and it's always unmistakably Avatar.

There's a lot more freedom in the songwriting then there's been for a while with these guys. For a group as outlandish as Avatar, the last record came dangerously close to predictable. No such problems here. Dance Devil Dance is full of surprises, switching up subgenres several times in the same songs, making sure the listener never knows what's coming next.
