A good song has to work in whatever environment it is staged - be it in a full-blown stadium or intimate acoustic setting. Swedish dark symphonic metal high-flyers ELEINE have internalized this little piece of wisdom and rooted it deep within their artistic integrity. There's no other way to explain their effortless shift between their bombastic side and the deeply spellbinding acoustic guise they present on their brand-new EP "Acoustic in Hell" that will be released on October via Atomic Fire Records - right in time for their anticipated acoustic tour with metal veterans Sonata Arctica.

"We had never done acoustic versions of our music before, so approaching this challenge was something new to us," says Madeleine. "The main thing we had in mind for these versions was to keep the essence of our metal, to keep it raw and authentic. There is weight to our music, and it's important not to make it overproduced and cute when you get this opportunity.", Rikard adds.

Graced by a stunning cover artwork created by Nestor Avalos and Madeleine Liljestam herself, "Acoustic in Hell" sees the Swedish hopefuls take songs from their three lauded full-lengths, "ELEINE" (2015), "Until the End" (2018) and 2020's genre favorite "Dancing in Hell", strip them down and extract their raw, dark essence. "It took a lot re-arranging. We wanted to keep it raw and authentic but still give the acoustic versions their own identity" Rikard says. "Yes, and as I always say to the guys: I have to feel it in my hips!," Madeleine adds. "This applies to the acoustic versions even more."

Recorded within only a week in January 2022 in their dear friend Thomas "Plec" Johansson's The Panic Room Studio in Skara, "Acoustic in Hell" gets elevated by a stellar performance courtesy of Madeleine Liljestam who recorded all her vocals in just under three hours. More than anything, this shows the determination and the sheer will power with which things are done in camp ELEINE.

The ninth studio long player from the spiritually charged, cosmopolitan, San Diego-based hard rock veterans, Awakening is another musically adventurous set from the always versatile Payable on Death, and a heavy, albeit life-affirming conceptual album that follows a central protagonist navigating the inner and outer wastelands in the aftermath of a personal tragedy. Peppered with atmospheric bits of prepared media and snippets of dialogue (the brooding opener "Am I Awake" is prefaced by a veritable grocery list of the world's ills, both past and present), the ten-track set, which features guest spots from In This Moment frontwoman Maria Brink and Sick of It All frontman Lou Koller, is obviously meant to be devoured in a single sitting. Luckily, P.O.D. keep things interesting throughout the record's just-over-40-minute runtime, touching on everything from anthemic alt-rock ("This Goes Out to You") and fiery hip-hop ("Get Down") to hardcore punk ("Revolución") and soaring post-grunge ("The Awakening"). The story itself is fairly straightforward; heartache begets self-destruction and eventually redemption, but P.O.D. manages to deliver the goods with an easy, everyman prowess and just the right amount of humility and tough love to lend conviction to even the most strident narrative tropes. It also helps that they infuse each song with equal parts economy, melody, and grit, effectively laying to waste any notion that all concept albums are bloated, try-hard exercises in hubris that forget that a solidly executed song far outweighs a lofty idea.

Frontiers Music Srl is thrilled to announce that the third studio album by Swedish melodic rockers Perfect Plan, entitled 'Brace For Impact', released on 14th October.

Their first two albums, 'All Rise' and 'Time For A Miracle', saw the group swiftly established as the new gold standard in not only Scandinavian melodic rock, but the genre as a whole. 'Brace For Impact' does nothing to change that and fans should do exactly as the album title suggests in preparation for their new opus.

When asked about the musical direction of 'Brace For Impact', lead vocalist Kent Hilli states: "Our goal when writing an album is that it should feel like playing songs on a jukebox and I think we have succeeded with that on this album. Everything really sounds like PERFECT PLAN 3.0! I think we have definitely pushed everything up a notch from the songwriting and lyrics to arrangements and overall performance and sound. With the addition of the great Tobias Lindell who does the mixing, I think everything sounds really big and majestic!"

In the fall of 1975, towards the tail end of a typically productive and prolific year that included finishing production on the One Size Fits All album, a spring tour with Captain Beefheart (immortalized on the live album, Bongo Fury, released in October of that year), and a performance of orchestral works, Frank Zappa and his band The Mothers played their first and only shows in Yugoslavia while in the midst of their fall tour. The Mothers of Invention Yugoslavian Extravaganza, as Zappa called it, took place in Zagreb and Ljubljana (now the capital cities of Croatia and Slovenia respectively) on Nov. 21 and 22, 1975 with the short-lived and slightly stripped-down lineup of Andre Lewis (keyboards), Napoleon Murphy Brock (tenor sax and lead vocals), Norma Bell (alto sax, vocals), Roy Estrada (bass) and Terry Bozzio (drums). In characteristic Zappa fashion, The Maestro made sure to record these historical shows behind the Iron Curtain.

Frontiers Music Srl is proud to present Killer Kings' debut album, entitled "Burn For Love". Killer Kings is a musical alliance between Gregory Lynn Hall (ex-101 South) and Tristan Avakian (ex-Red Dawn, Queen Extravaganza). Killer Kings first came about when Frontiers Records president Serafino Perugino thought of bringing Gregory Lynn Hall, the former singer of 101 South (an AOR band who released three albums between 2000 and 2009) and Tristan Avakian, a very gifted guitarist who made his name in the 90s with the melodic rock band Red Dawn, together. Musically, Killer Kings mixes the AOR approach of both Red Dawn and 101 South with some interesting twists.
Gregory Lynn Hall has had a long history in the music industry, in all areas from studio work to live performances. Gregory pounded the pavement in the thriving 80s Hollywood rock scene, playing at all the rock venues from Gazzaris to the Troubadour to The Country Club. He eventually left L.A. after the 80s hard rock scene died down and became a session vocalist, singing on many well-known Christian artists' albums. In the late 90s, he returned to California and in 1999, while doing a session in Malibu, he met Roger Scott Craig (ex-Fortune) and thus 101 South was born. Shortly after the first 101 South album was finished in 2000, Gregory was asked to join the band Heaven & Earth as their bass player and toured with them to support the "Windows To The World" album. He would then go on to record two more acclaimed 101 South albums and one solo record in 2014.
Tristan Avakian is a professional musician of many years with extensive experience in theatre, touring, writing and producing. Cirque Du Soleil, Lauryn Hill, Mariah Carey, Trans-Siberian Orchestra and Biohazard are just some of the names from the varied genres and artists he has immersed himself in. He has also worked with producers such as Steve Thompson and Rob Thomas and joined the Queen Extravaganza show in the US. He is also known for being the guitarist of 90s melodic hard rockers Red Dawn, a band formed by former Rainbow keyboardist David Rosenthal, together with other two Rainbow alumni Chuck Bürgi and Greg Smith, which released a critically acclaimed album for EMI Toshiba in Japan in 1993.

After Hours" is the second studio album from the Australian rock band Little River Band, released in April 1976. It peaked at No. 5 on the Australian Kent Music Report Albums Chart. Lead singer Glenn Shorrock names this album as his favourite album by the band.

The Little River Band are an Australian rock band, formed in Melbourne in 1975. The band chose its name after passing a road sign leading to the Victorian township of Little River, near Geelong, on the way to a performance. Malcolm John "Mac" Rebennack, Jr., aka Dr. John, was one of few New Orleans musicians to earn a reputation outside of Louisiana. His alluring alchemy of prodigious musical talent and love of psychedelic voodoo stretched across five decades, both as a session player and a solo leader. The late Dr., who died in 2019, and Shane Theriot-who both produced and plays on the album-gathered a first-class group of local players at the gorgeous Esplanade Studios with engineer Misha Kachkachishvili, and Music Shed Studios with engineer Jack Miele, to cut a collection of old favorites and well-known country music classics which make for a fitting and compelling swan song. The recording quality is clear and unadorned, focused on Rebennack's weathered voice and instinctual keyboard skills. Theriot, also a New Orleans native and who has carved out a distinguished career playing with a variety of musicians including The Neville Brothers and Hall & Oates (for whom he is currently musical director), plays guitars, bass and even cardboard box drum.

The final Dr. John album opens appropriately with a version of Willie Nelson's "Funny How Time Slips Away" which plays in a relaxed New Orleans piano professor style. Rebennack and Nelson make a creaky but authentic duo on the traditional "Gimme That Old Time Religion," which also features a pair of masterful New Orleanians in drummer Herlin Riley and keyboardist Jon Cleary. Perhaps the most Dr. John-like tune is "I Walk on Guilded Splinters," a wonderfully low-down groove he first recorded for his 1968 debut Gris-Gris. Of the pair of Hank Williams covers, "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry," with the Dr.'s low, whispery, croaky vocals accompanied by Theriot on lap steel, is most memorable. The Traveling Wilburys' "End of the Line," fitted with a second line rhythm and a horn section, features guest vocals by Katie Pruitt and Aaron Neville, the latter of whom's voice has sadly lost more than a step. Pruitt returns on "Holy Water," a new Rebennack original that chronicles his heroin addiction: "I can hear my momma sayin' boy whatcha doin'/ You don't change, you go straight to ruin." Last records are always telling, if sad, both for the players involved and the listeners who survive, and yet Things Happen That Way celebrates Dr. John in a way that rings utterly true to the man and his music. © Robert Baird/Qobuz

Sebastian Bach[/b] declares "Rock n Roll Is a Vicious Game" on Give 'Em Hell, and while the words may not be his own -- it's a cover of an old April Wine tune -- the sentiment applies to the attitude of his fourth studio solo album. He's possessed by a brutal, take-no-prisoners attitude throughout the record -- that acoustic April Wine cover is as soft as it gets -- and he's unapologetic for pledging allegiance to the sound of the Sunset Strip circa 1987, going so far as to hire Duff McKagan to play bass and finding room for Steve Stevens to play a little guitar. Thing is, Give 'Em Hell winds up sounding tougher and harder than Skid Row did at their peak. First off, there is only one power ballad -- the grinding "Had Enough," which has a bit of a candied Beatles chorus -- and the guitars are always pushed to the front of the mix, giving the illusion that Bach has to scream to be heard. This visceral rush pays off, suggesting Bach is getting angrier and heavier as he's growing older.

How fast should a Grateful Dead song be played? There is perhaps no question that has occupied Deadheads' time and consumed more emotion over the last 20 or so years, ever since bassist Phil Lesh and guitarist Bob Weir reunited the band after Jerry Garcia's 1995 death. The tempo wars have claimed several versions of the post-Garcia Dead, and if the question seems banal, it nevertheless conceals irreconcilable philosophical differences. For Lesh, these songs are meant to pump with energy, swirling up the audience in a psychedelic dervish. For Weir, they should be played slowly, with purpose and focus, "an audio playlet that needed to sink into the audience's mind," as writer Joel Selvin puts it. The music of the Grateful Dead, in Weir's formulation, is bigger, vaster, and contains sweeping views; why speed through it?

On Weir's second official release with his Wolf Bros project, Live in Colorado, Vol. 2, he stages some of the most beloved material in the Grateful Dead's catalog with the passion and reverence of a couple spending their 50th anniversary looking back on their wedding day. It's a striking set, one that does justice to Weir's vision without ever succumbing to the sense of drag that can occasionally topple Dead & Company, the stadium-touring band he fronts with John Mayer. As is typically the case with Weir's solo work, there is no lead guitarist, and thus no attempt to dig around in the DNA of these songs to discover what else they might contain. Leaning instead on bassist Don Was, keyboardist Jeff Chimenti, and especially drummer Jay Lane, Weir's arrangements expand these songs outward, their scope and sense of majesty evoked by the horns, strings, and pedal steel of the accompanying Wolfpack ensemble. There's never a question as to where we might be going, only an offhanded awe at how stately this music turns out to be.

Much of the album's grace is owing to the pleasant contrast between Weir's late style as a rhythm guitarist and the slickness of the band. His instrument is constantly buzzing, and he doesn't strum it so much as brush at it in a way that makes it sound like a live wire being batted with a feather. He can be halting, sometimes a touch behind the beat, frequently rough as he roots around the edges of the songs in search of new rhythmic pathways. It's a winningly hardheaded mode of playing, one that comes from having abandoned the concept of perfection or completion decades ago, and the romantic swirl of the band mimics the emotion of his playing if not the tone. It's strangely comforting to hear them polish Merle Haggard's "Mama Tried" as if Weir's blocky soloing is a totally normal way for a guitar to sound in a country song.

Following up on their 2020 debut 'Razzle Dazzle', French duo Blackbird Hill have spent the pandemic bringing their baritone guitar down a notch. When you are a duo making rock, it means your guitar (or bass) has to channel both sides of the spectrum - weight and melody. For 'Embers in the Dark' this meant lower tuning and bigger amps. The duo wanted a bigger, sludgier and a more gravelly sound. That's exactly what the listeners get.

Songs like 'Flatline' evoke the very best of that era. Big riffs. Crunchy guitars. An in-studio echo to the drums and vocals as if they've been lifted from a live session. There is an element of old-school chugging rock to the riffs but they are anthemic and loud. For instance 'Beat the Retreat' reminds of Soundgarden's 'The Day I Tried to Live' as it has the same off-kilter mid-riff slide. Blackbird Hill gives it a T-Rex/Thin Lizzy high octave solo edge though so it sounds very different and like grunge does 70's rock.

What Blackbird Hill does so well with this album is merge different periods of rock together.

When Ugly Kid Joe sold their souls to the devil in the pursuit of rock 'n' roll they drove a harder bargain than Robert Johnson at the Crossroads. Not only did they trade their souls for over thirty years of globetrotting and metal extravagance. They also haggled to keep their playing abilities, they bartered to keep their looks - we get older, gain weight and lose hair, yet they look like they've just walked off "that" song's beach video set from 1992!

Recently confirmed for Bloodstock next year, the Derbyshire festival described them as SoCal-Alt rockers. Well it doesn't matter where they come from, all the Alt has gone, this album is all about the rock. Straight up rock!

Just play opener'That Ain't Livin' or 'Failure' that are straight out of the Bon Scott, AC/DC play book. They explore their inner Woodstock with 'Not Like Any Other'. We also get some ballads. They are a rock band and they are very good at it. 'Kill the Pain' is a builder, that crescendos into a massive wall of emotional noise, 'Long Road' by contrast, is a chirpy, happy, up tempo ballad and 'Everything Changes' is an introspective, piece of rock pop that Blind Melon used to craft.

Ugly Kid Joe can be the butt of a few jokes and it's easy to see why. One hit wonders, quirky songs, cover versions and not taking themselves too seriously. On this album we get quirky with 'Drinkin and Drivin', a play on country and western and 'Up to the City', which is a slow quirky tune. Their cover version effort is a rocked up slant on the Kinks classic 'Lola'. And there's a nice touch with a tribute to all the rock legends played and sung with their tongue firmly in their cheeks with a mid-album highlight, 'Dead Friends Play'.

A good fun time album, well worth a listen, and if you need to deal with the devil, get these SoCal rockers in your corner.

Electronic music pioneer Jean-Michel Jarre releases his 22nd studio album OXYMORE, and one of his most ambitious projects to date.

OXYMORE is an homage to the late French composer Pierre Henry, with whom Jarre had been intending on collaborating for Jarre's GRAMMY-nominated project album 'Electronica'. Henry was an iconic figure in electronic and classical music, and one of Jarre's mentors at the Groupe de Recherche Musical (GRM) where he studied. Since his death in 2017, Henry's widow provided Jarre with some stems of material which had been intended for use in this collaboration.

OXYMORE is a musical journey where Pierre Henry's sounds interact with Jarre's new composition in a sonic game of mirrors, where the creator of Oxygene finds his inverted doppelganger in OXYMORE, opening a vortex that sucks the listener into an anachronistic back-and-forth where analogue and digital find a common playground.

The project is inspired by the French movement 'musique concrete' (concrete music), a genre of music composition that utilises recorded sounds as raw material. The movement was first developed in the 1940s and went on to revolutionise the way music is produced. With 'OXYMORE', Jarre takes this concept and reinvents it with the tools of today.

Jean-Michel Jarre has always been a futurist in his field. Throughout his illustrious career, the composer, performer, producer and cultural ambassador has continued to break new ground with his music and his mastery of creative innovation. From his early pioneering role in electronic music, his use of multi-channel audio technology and production, to his recent explorations into the realms of VR performance and the metaverse, technology is at the forefront of everything he does. He is quoted as claiming that "today is the most exciting time to create, to make music, and to share across so many mediums".

Frontiers Music Srl released second album, "Powerzone" from red hot British rock singer Chez Kane. The album follows Chez's incredibly well received self-titled debut album, which was released in March of 2021.
