Genesis Revisited Live: Seconds Out & More is a stunning audio/visual record of a special concert at the Manchester Apollo on 24th September 2021 - on the same evening his erstwhile colleagues of Genesis were playing just across the city at the AO Manchester Arena on The Last Domino? tour. Steve commented on his feelings that night in my recent interview with him.

Anyone who was fortunate to see this tour, either in the UK or later throughout Europe, the USA and beyond, will have some great memories.

Having a new band member can be nerve-wracking for any band. However, on an album, it can be easy for it to sound like nothing has changed. On the other hand, this only works until the singer is replaced. Then the difference is noticeable. This is the case for TRIAL. Having added the country tag of (Swe) to their name 2017 in order to distinguish themselves from the many other bands who go under that name, their new album Feed The Fire is the first with new vocalist Arthur W. Andersson. It is also the band's first album since 2017's Motherless. However, they didn't just spring the new vocalist onto fans. Instead, they released 2021's Sisters Of The Moon EP to serve as something of an introduction for Andersson.

Even though fans have been introduced to the new vocalist via an EP, there is something different about an album. Thankfully, fans needn't have worried. Despite the slow introduction song, Tria Prima, this album goes full force. It is almost as if the first song was a calm before the storm. Sulphery starts off with a riveting guitar solo before Andersson's voice comes in. He sounds fantastic, and his voice suits the music perfectly. This makes sense, as lead guitarist Alexander Ellström said that after hearing Andersson's voice he held the desire to write more up-tempo songs.

High octane Morpeth-based rockers Rocket Boy celebrate their debut album.

Known for producing anthemic rock and mind blowing guitar riffs, Rocket Boy - made up of vocalist Chris Hill, guitarist Chris McDonald and producer Andy Bell - are kickstarting their repertoire with a pretty incredible debut album which isn't short of high octane bangers.

The group have an abundance of previous performance experience; Chris Hill first began his career playing for various successful bands including Splitz and Sister Ray (which also included The Smiths' Johnny Marr), but a desire to focus his attention on songwriting during the pandemic led to a collaboration with sought after session guitarist Chris McDonald and producer Andy Bell, resulting in Resolute being recorded at Blast Studios.

Air guitar enthusiasts will be captivated by every track on this album, from technical guitar solos and clever hooks to brilliant lyricism and melodic lines, it's a real study in musicality. There are plans afoot to bring the sound to the live stage, with a fourth member being sought out to help show off those mighty riffs in their full glory.

Norwegian guitarist and composer Anders Buaas? new album "The Edinburgh Suite" set released by Apollon Records on September 9th this year. The album features an all-star line-up with Marco Minnemann (Steven Wilson etc.) on drums, Tony Franklin (ex-The Firm, ex-Whitesnake, Blue Murder) on bass, Christian M. Berg on mallets and percussion and Richard Garcia on keyboards. A two-part suite inspired by the history of the magnificent city of Edinburgh. Anders says: "Crack open your favourite bottle of single malt and join me on a sonic journey through the history and the streets of Edinburgh."

Sunrise On Slaughter Beach proves that even after 30 years and 13 studio albums, Clutch are rock'n'roll's most reliable champions

Omnipresent, omni-busy and laudably consistent, Clutch have always seemed slightly more devoted to the whole process of making music than everyone else. Either touring like madmen or blazing away at their Maryland HQ with another album in their sights, the band's last three decades have been a model of rock'n'roll purity and huge, life affirming tunes.

As a result, it comes as no surprise whatsoever that Sunrise On Slaughter Beach is another joyous conflagration of riffs, grooves and bittersweet wit. This is, after all, what Clutch do. Nine songs deep and noticeably sharper and snappier than 2018's Book Of Bad Decisions, Clutch's 13th album offers a snapshot of the band at their most intense and energetic: almost certainly the result of being stuck at home and denied the opportunity to do what comes naturally.

Widely showcased on tour this year, opener Red Alert (Boss Metal Zone) is a gritty, full-pelt return to undiluted rock fury. Done and dusted in under three minutes, it's the most punk thing Clutch have done in years. Even more inspired is We Strive For Excellence: a jittery stream of Neil Fallon aphorisms tied to some of the simplest and most effective riffing Clutch have written in an age. When the bearded frontman bellows 'Yes we do!' with absolute, gruff conviction, it's impossible to disagree.

If it weren't so deliberate, it would be easy for 'Autofiction' to feel like little more than Suede donning a musical costume of their early days. Instead, we're getting a retelling. The veteran outfit's ninth full-length is saturated with their well-honed symbiotic onstage energy: closer 'Turn Off Your Brain And Yell' rings with absent audience noise as Brett Anderson's voice reverberates around an imaginary arena; 'Personality Disorder' shudders with intensity and performance; tempo shifts and hints of improv inject the title track with vital urgency. There's not so much luxurious orchestration or dark flamboyance underpinning 'Autofiction''s construction, but Suede maintain their magnitude through emotional craft - single '15 Again' is the perfect microcosm of 'Autofiction''s ups and downs, its euphoric chorus built around painstaking regret. In essence, 'Autofiction' finds Suede still fiercely in motion.

Frontiers Music Srl is proud to announce the debut album by Ginevra, a new Swedish group comprising vocalist Kristian Fyhr (Seventh Crystal), guitarist Magnus Karlsson (The Ferrymen, Primal Fear), bassist Jimmy Jay (H.E.A.T.) and drummer Magnus Ulfstedt (ex-Eclipse, Nordic Union).

Fyhr had initially come to the attention of Frontiers with his group Seventh Crystal, whose 2021 debut album 'Delirium' was released via the label and recognized instantly as a breath of fresh air in the melodic rock genre. Fhyr also contributed to the songwriting for 'Shifting Time', the new album by Giant that is also on Frontiers.

Fyhr had subsequently supplied the label with some songs he had written for use on other projects, with one in particular ('My Rock N' Roll') impressing his company boss to the extent that he suggested Fyhr front a new band and make an entire album of songs in that vein. This has resulted in a record of superlative Nordic melodic hard rock akin to H.E.A.T, Eclipse and Crowne, albeit heavier and more guitar/riff oriented than most music in that style.

With a powerful vocalist/songwriter in Fyhr and the stunning guitarist and songwriter Magnus Karlsson soon on board, it didn't take too long to recruit a top-notch rhythm section in Jimmy Jay and Magnus Ulfstedt to complete what is a truly stellar quartet. Led by the pairing of Fhyr's vocal and songwriting talents with Karlsson's stunning guitar playing and additional songwriting contributions, they have birthed something truly special and fans can anticipate yet another gem from the ever fruitful Swedish rock scene.

Frontiers Music Srl is proud to announce the signing of an exciting new musical force, fronted by not one, not two, but three incredible vocalists, The Erinyes. The band name is derived from Greek mythology, where The Erinyes, also known as the Furies, are a trio of chthonic deities of vengeance. Vocalists Justine Daaé, Mizuho Lin, and Nicoletta Rosellini share lead vocal duties in The Erinyes.

The Erinyes' singers come from exciting, up-and-coming bands on the metal scene. Justine Daaé fronts her own gothic-industrial metal solo act Elyose out of France, Mizuho Lin is co-lead vocalist in Brazilian symphonic/dark metal band Semblant, and Nicoletta Rosellini sings for the Italian bands Walk In Darkness and Kalidia. Their self-titled debut album as The Erinyes is a concept album centered three amazons who are having a dispute centered around their love interests.

Written and produced by Aldo Lonobile (Secret Sphere, Timo Tolkki's Avalon, Archon Angel), this an ambitious, glorious symphonic metal album showcasing the incredible vocal talents of these three young singers.

Ten albums and 15 years into their career, Death Cab for Cutie are as musically muscular as an arena-ready band. It's there on the title track of Asphalt Meadows, which sounds at times like New Order and sports a bit of Johnny Marr-esque guitar. "I'll Never Give Up On You" is almost menacing in its powerfully brooding instrumentation. "I Don't Know How I Survive" wraps in a surprisingly funky snaking guitar line, with frontman Ben Gibbard dragging out the word "listen" until it trails off like vapor; it all cracks open in a knockdown tsunami of sound at the chorus, and a blinding wash of guitar. You can hear-and feel-the muscularity on "Roman Candles," with rapid-fire drums and guitars that streak by like the firework it's named for. Gibbard has said it was written to reflect "a general sense of anxiety [as] the feeling that the fabric that weaves a functioning society together was crumbling during the pandemic." Indeed, that's a theme that pervades, as Death Cab becomes the latest act to file their "pandemic record" for posterity. Gibbard's plain-spoken poetry is particularly suited for the job. "It's been a battle just to wake and greet the day/ Then they all disappear like sugar in my coffee/ A hint of sweetness/ But the bitterness remains/ The acidity devouring my body," he sings on "Roman Candles." The edgy "I Miss Strangers'' probes at the lockdown conundrum of craving the public connection we all previously took for granted: "These days I miss strangers/ More than I/ More than I miss my friends." The Marr-like guitars return, like the sun forcing its way through the clouds, for jubilant-sounding "Here to Forever," as Gibbard sings, "These days it's so hard to relax/ You've got to hold a gun to my back/ To make me smile." As always, there are captivating short stories packed into songs. "Wheat Like Waves"-with warm keys like a buttery salve-tells of catching up with an old friend: combining fine detail ("Prefab Sprout echoing out/ Of your '90s Accord/ With mismatched doors"), intriguing similes ("Your tattoos like the stamps on your passport") and universal ideas, this time about how fast time evaporates with age: "So little time/ So many miles to drive/ Before the endless sleep eventually arrives." And "Foxglove Through The Clearcut" finds the band in an experimental mode, playing with spoken verses and loose, oceanic guitar for a story about a man who lived by the ocean but feared the water; it ends at full tide, musically cresting and crashing, an overwhelming and maybe dangerous thing of beauty. © Shelly Ridenour/Qobuz

The world renowned, talented solid bass player and charismatic frontman Marco Mendoza announces his fourth solo album offering 'New Direction' for release September .

Being known for his work with Thin Lizzy, Whitesnake, Journey, Ted Nugent and The Dead Daisies to name a few, the Los Angeles native has recorded a body of amazing music in his own right. Frontiers Music Srl is pleased to present the sophomore released from Sweden's Fans Of The Dark, "Suburbia", on September 16, 2022. These Swedish upstarts are coming off a well-received debut album, which saw them seamlessly melting melodic rock with their 80s hard rock and metal influences. "Suburbia" sees them further perfecting that most agreeable formula with stunning results.
"Suburbia" is a sequel of sorts to the band's self-titled debut, following similar themes, both musically and lyrically and even with the theme of the artwork, while seeing the band continuing to evolve. Drummer Freddie Allen's vision for the band is to do as the great hard rock and metal bands of the 70s and 80s did, which was to constantly work on their craft and release new music with regularity. In keeping with that vision, the band set to work on their second album quickly after the release of their self-titled debut. "Suburbia" follows more or less exactly one year after said debut, which was released in the fall of 2021.
"It is pretty much a sibling to the first album, with similar themes and ideas, only this time going deeper into the world where most of us grew up, and where we first got in touch with hard rock music, horror films on VHS, 80's teen culture and all else that shaped us - the suburbs", says Freddie Allen (main songwriter and founder of the band) of "Suburbia".
For this new album, Allen and vocalist Alex Falk are once again joined by guitarist Oscar Bromvall and new bassist Rickard Gramfors. The album spans eight tracks (another reference back to those glory days of the 70s and 80s), including two epic songs, "The Pirates Of Maine" and "Restless Soul", around the eight minute mark. Fans of the band's debut will be enthralled with the band's second offering. Melodic hard rock fans looking for genre innovation and a break from 'the norm' will certainly be wise to check out this striking breath of fresh air in the scene.
"Suburbia" was produced and mixed by multi-talented musician and producer Lars Fredrik Swahn (Dungen, The Amazing) and co-produced by Allen.
Fans Of The Dark is an exciting new band formed in the summer of 2020 by Freddie Allen, drummer and main songwriter, plus lead vocalist Alex Falk. The pair went to high school together in Stockholm and after a few years reconnected recently with a vision to create a band which would mix the melodies and approach of classic and melodic rock with elements of the great metal music of the 80s. Their musical output over the course of their first two albums is one of the most exciting things you'll hear emerging from the fruitful melodic rock in Sweden, showcasing a tight, inventive musical approach with outstanding vocals.

Thanks to Mustaine's focus on the music rather than his sometimes clumsy lyrics, Rust in Peace arguably holds up better than any other Megadeth release, even for listeners who think they've outgrown heavy metal. While the whole album is consistently impressive, the obvious highlight is the epic, Eastern-tinged "Hangar 18."

Rising like a Phoenix, which was the title of one of their previous albums, perhaps Mark Farner is sending a subliminal message with opening track "Good Times" that his "Bad Time" is over? The song "Testify," track three, sums up this very good album from Mark Farner, Don Brewer, and bassist Dennis Bellinger replacing the MIA Mel Schacher. It's a hooky rock tune with Farner's religious overtones. All these tracks are strong, from "Can't Be With You Tonight" to the glorious ending of "Wait for Me." The no-nonsense production of manager Andrew Cavaliere -- shades of Terry Knight! --- and Bob Destocki, lets Farner and Brewer shine. This album is like a subdued version of the Grand Funk classic Survival. In fact, both Survival and Grand Funk Lives are underrated, not just among Grand Funk fans. Where the first Mark Farner solo album, produced by Dick Wagner, had more of a bluesy feel in 1977, and 1978's Flint by Brewer and company sounded like a stab in the dark, this collection rocks. "Queen Bee" has riffs taken from Black Sabbath and Uriah Heep, specifically the ending of the song; "Black Sabbath meets Heep's "Easy Livin'," with Farner's pop influences glossing it up. "We Gotta Get out of This Place" has more in common with a hard-rocking Young Rascals than the Animals or David Johansen. "Y.O.U." is almost there, halfway to a hit, missing the strength of producers Jimmy Ienner, Todd Rundgren, heck, even Frank Zappa might've lifted this track into the Top 40. The restrained production on the rest of the album is a plus except for "Y.O.U.," which needed just a bit more. "Stuck in the Middle" is fun Mark Farner, and is perhaps the best track on this excellent outing. Heavy keyboards, a great hook, and thick chorus -- a nice sequel to Funk's 1975 hit "Bad Time." "Greed of Man" goes back to the harder preaching of original GFR. All tunes except the cover of "We Gotta Get out of This Place" were written by Farner, who closes out the album with the introspective "Wait for Me." In a world mutated by Guns N' Roses, Nirvana, and Aerosmith gone pop, Grand Funk Railroad kept the flame of hard rock lit with this solid disc. It's too bad it didn't reach a larger audience.

Megadeth's 13th studio album, and first since 2001's The World Needs a Hero to utilize the talents of bassist/founding member Dave Ellefson, was produced by Johnny K (Staind, Disturbed) and features a combination of newly composed tracks, along with older cuts written years ago but never put to tape. Darker, heavier, and more immediate than 2009's Endgame, Dave Mustaine's snarling vocals ride higher in the mix this time around, but fans need not fear, as his fleet fingers are still possessed with the power to conjure the dead. Much of the aptly named Th1rt3en feels vintage, from the familiar political themes on "We the People" and the tightly wound, Dio-esque riffing on "Public Enemy No. 1" to the soft, melodramatic military snare intro of "Never Dead," which eventually explodes into a wicked blast of retro-thrash that feels positively invigorating, not redundant. Elsewhere, the melodic slow-burn "Millennium of the Blind" fuses Ten Years After's "I'd Love to Change the World" and Metallica's "Fade to Black" into an anti-corporation/war rant that calls out the "millennials" on their submissiveness, the snaky "Black Swan" casts long shadows that mimic "Symphony of Destruction," and first single "Sudden Death" stands defiant before the skeptics who thought that Mustaine's newfound faith would render him bereft of the old ultraviolence.

With Cronos's Venom still soldiering onwards, original guitarist Jeff 'Mantas' Dunn's incarnation of the band has also returned with their second full-length under the Venom Inc. name. Having re-enlisted Prime Evil-era frontman Tony Dolan 'Demolition Man' in 2015 to tour some Venom classics again, the trio attempted to prove they were powered by more than mere nostalgia with 2017's patchy Ave, a muddled collection of songs ranging from solid to awful. There's Only Black, by contrast, is much more consistent; its highs may not match the vintage Venom riffery of Ave's Forged In Hell, for example, but there's also nothing as toe-curlingly embarrassing as Dein Fleisch here either.

Despite the more subtle, minimalist cover art, the band's sound is still as brash and bombastic as ever. The groove metal influence that crept into Ave is still here, especially on chuggier cuts such as Rampant and Inferno, but Mantas's iconic riffing style shines through on sleazier numbers like Nine and the thrashy title track. Tony's gruff bark is a lot more generic than Cronos's infamous snarl, but he turns in a dependable performance nonetheless, while gloomier tracks such as Don't Feed Me Your Lies and Burn Liar Burn give him a chance to show off some more evocative, emotive basslines.

As with every legacy act that ends up splitting in half, it's hard to shake the feeling that the ideal version of Venom lies somewhere in between the two and we'd all be better off if they'd just sit down and iron out their differences. But while Cronos's Venom has arguably descended into self-parody in recent years, Venom Inc. feel far more robust and energised. There's nothing here you haven't heard before, but fans of that Prime Evil line-up will be pleased to hear this is the most powerful they've sounded in years.

The band Friendship first saw the light of day in 2010. Since then, the line-up has been ever-changing, but always with Fredrik Skalstad at the helm. Today he considers it his solo project, having released two albums to critical acclaim both nationally and internationally. Purpendicular's third album, Human Mechanic, is set for international released on September 23 via Metalville Records. Featuring Ian Paice of Deep Purple, Purpendicular create Godly rootsy hard rock, understandably steeped in a 'Purple tradition: hearing is believing, and then you're hooked for good.

Ian had grown fond of Purpendicular due to their great musicianship and his friendship with singer Robby Walsh, who were introduced to each other by chance before their first show in Vienna in 2004. In the first two years, the band did shows in Austria and Germany, focusing mainly on the Steve Morse lineup era of Deep Purple. In 2012, the band embarked on the official 40th anniversary tour of Machine Head, supported by Ian Paice. Also in 2012, Purpendicular was the most booked Deep Purple tribute show in the world. This was repeated in 2013 and 2014.

In August 2015, Purpendicular released their debut album, tHis is the tHing#1. 2016 saw another collaboration with Ian Paice for Purpendicular. This tour was by far the most successful and earned rave reviews from the media. Ian Paice himself said, "I have to seriously thank my friends in Purpendicular. They are a fine band of very talented musicians who give me the chance to play when I'm not with Purple. We always have a great time." The band's second studio album, Venus To Volcanus, was released in May 2017.

Over the years, Purpendicular worked with such great musicians as Roger Glover, Tony Carey, Paul Morris, and also Neil Murray.

In 2020, the band began work on the third studio album, Human Mechanic. Robby Walsh and Ian Paice made important decisions regarding the lineup to move forward. Unfortunately, the album itself was delayed by almost two years because of Covid.

Musically, Human Mechanic offers the typical Ian Paice grooves and funky bass lines, but without neglecting the heavy hard rock sound. You won't find a copy of Deep Purple here, but many influences. But Hammonds and guitars are still strongly in the foreground.
