Venus 5 is composed of five amazing singers hailing from different European territories. In alphabetical order, they are: Herma (also of Sick N' Beautiful, another Frontiers recording artist), Karmen Klinc, Jelena Milovanovic, Tezzi Persson (also of Infinite & Divine, another Frontiers recording artist), and Erina Seitllari. Each vocalist is a unique and outstanding vocal talent, while at the same time representing a killer, unique visual portraying a character created for Venus 5. Venus 5 is primed to be one of the most fresh and exciting new musical prospects to emerge from the European metal scene in recent years. The concept for Venus 5 started with the idea of creating a "metal" version of pop projects like Pussycat Dolls and the like. Assembling the vocalists and musicians required a tremendous amount of time and energy as the right talent had to be in place to work together cohesively with great chemistry and to bring musical credibility to the project. The end result is that five outstanding vocal stars in the making have been brought together from different musical environments (and countries) to work together with the vision of creating a monster album that could be unleashed on an unsuspecting public.

While comparisons to this being a "metal version" of pop projects might lead one to think that the visual aspect of Venus 5 would take the lead, please make no mistake, the music here is front and center. There was zero interest in making this strictly about appearance, which needed to be secondary to talent. A team effort by producer Aldo Lonobile (Secret Sphere, Timo Tolkki's Avalon, Sweet Oblivion, etc.) and his team of writers, including Jake E (Cyrha, ex-Amaranthe) who co-produced the vocals, Stefan Helleblad (Within Temptation, who also plays guitars on the album), and Per Aldeheim (Def Leppard, H.E.A.T, Stanfour, etc.) have created an approach to the music which offers a feast of musical goodness.

Venus 5 is certainly and highly recommended for all the lovers of the sounds in the current European metal scene, taking influences from, for example, Within Temptation's latest albums and Amaranthe, but adding addictive, catchy melodies. A unique flavor that only Venus 5 can offer with such an outstanding amount of vocal abilities within the band.

Latvian hard rockers Bloody Heels have announced their return with a new studio album, "Rotten Romance" on June 10, 2022.

"Rotten Romance", their third album overall, follows their Frontiers debut, "Ignite The Sky" (2020). While the band still shows nods to the great '80s hard rock scene in their sound, the new album presents a stylistic leap from the band that is delightfully unexpected and welcome. Not content to be stagnant in their musical approach, Bloody Heels have pushed their sound forward, proving that innovation within the confines of a genre is always possible when the will to push through barriers exists.

"Rotten Romance" will certainly please fans of the band's previous work, where strains of classic '80s hard rock were mixed with elements of heavy metal (and that is still very much the case here), but touches of progressive rock, gothic metal, and more modern rock are now identifiable in the mix and with spectacular results. Vocalist Vicky White's whisky-soaked sounding throat is in fine form here, while guitarist Harry Rivers, bassist Gunn Everett, and drummer Gus Hawk already superb playing has jumped up multiple levels. Intense, driving parts mix with atmospheric, sometimes dark breakdowns, giving the album's rhythm an enjoyable variety that works seamlessly.

Have Bloody Heels just provided the blueprint for how the class of bands paying respect to '80s hard rock and metal can actually push the genre into new, exciting, inventive territory? Only time will be the judge of that, but with "Rotten Romance" these Latvian upstarts have certainly thrown down a gauntlet for their peers to attempt to match.

Formed in 2012 in Riga, Latvia, Bloody Heels made a name for themselves with the EP 'Summer Nights' (2014) and the studio albums 'Through Mystery' (2017) and 'Ignite The Sky' (2020). They've played shows all around Europe including Sweden, Finland, Norway, Germany, Slovakia, ***** Republic, Poland, Netherlands, Belgium, and the Baltic States.

Frontiers Music Srl release of the debut album, "Eat Your Heart Out", from Vypera on June , 2022. Vypera is another excellent young, up-and-coming hard rock/metal band from the Swedish rock scene.

Formed by lead singer Andreas Wallstrom, guitarist Christoffer Thelin, bassist Andreas Andersson, and drummer Johan Pettersson, Vypera are hard rockers to the core. Emerging from the fruitful Swedish rock scene, they are yet another high quality musical offering from, arguably, the new center of the rock n' roll universe. Vypera formed as "Madhouse" in Sandviken, Sweden in 2016 as a covers band, but soon began to hunger for making their own music. They changed their name to Vypera and began writing music that they felt traveled on the same good ol' road where their influences like Rainbow, Icon, King Kobra, London, Triumph, W.A.S.P., and the like had originally started. Haken guitarist Charlie Griffiths release his debut solo album Tiktaalika on June via InsideOut, and the London-based musician describes it as "the world's first palaeontology-based progressive metal album".

The guitarist has been with Haken since 2008, and to change things up from his work with them, Griffiths opted to use six-string guitars on the record as opposed to the eight-stringers he usually uses with that band. "My classic thrash side really came out," he adds, "as well as lot of Cynic [and] tech metal influences. There's also a song that sounds like King Crimson meets Gentle Giant, but heavier."

Drive At Night was formed in 2021 by the two long-time friends and bandmates Joachim Nordlund and Johan Lindstedt from Astral Doors and SunStrike. As part of a planned year-long celebration of The Beach Boys' 60th anniversary, Capitol Records/UMe are to release a newly remastered and massively expanded edition of the group's greatest hits collection Sounds Of Summer: The Very Best of The Beach Boys.

This collection was originally issued in 2003 and contained 30 tracks. The reissue updates both the number of songs and the audio quality with an extra 50 songs, giving a total of 80 tracks across three CDs or six vinyl LPs.

This has been put together by Mark Linettand Alan Boyd who were responsible for last year's Feel Flows - The Sunflower and Surf's Up Sessions 1969-1971 and other Beach Boys packages.

This collection features nearly every US Top 40 hit of The Beach Boys' career, including 'California Girls', 'I Get Around', 'Surfer Girl', 'Surfin' U.S.A.', 'Fun, Fun, Fun', 'God Only Knows', 'Good Vibrations', 'Wouldn't It Be Nice', ,Kokomo', 'Barbara Ann', 'Help Me, Rhonda', 'In My Room' and many others. Of course with 50 extra tracks it goes well beyond 'the hits'.

In terms of the audio, the collection boasts 24 new mixes including two first-time stereo mixes, plus 22 new-and-improved stereo mixes, which in some cases features "the latest in digital stereo extraction technology", allowing for the team to separate the original mono backing tracks for the first time.

Disciplined Breakdown has to be one of only a handful of records inspired by a songwriter's breakup with his manager, but despite its origins, the album is another smartly assembled arena rock collection from Collective Soul. Ed Roland knows how to co-opt contemporary alternative rock trends and refashion them into hard-rocking anthems, as evidenced by the first single, "Precious Declaration." He still has a problem coming up with a consistent set of songs, but Disciplined Breakdown is nearly as slickly entertaining as Collective Soul's eponymous second album, and its best moments indicate that Roland is beginning to develop a distinctive hard rock style of his own.

After publishing Archives-Vol. 1: The Early Years (1963-1967), an imposing box set of Joni Mitchell's recordings, running to 119 mostly unreleased tracks that date from before her first official record, there now comes a collection of well-made, overdue remasterings of her studio albums. As its title suggests, The Reprise Albums (1968-1971) brings together the first four of these: Song to a Seagull (March 1968), Clouds (May 1969), Ladies of the Canyon (April 1970) and Blue (June 1971). The first four and nothing else! That means that we dispense with the usual alternative takes and other unreleased demos that we would usually find on this kind of reissue: the focus here is on the essentials. And what is essential here is a young woman gradually extracting herself from a folk idiom (the Canadian always hated being labelled a folk-singer) and creating her own language. This is an identity that takes shape from Songs to a Seagull onwards. The young Mitchell even entrusted the former Byrd, David Crosby, with the production of this first effort, which she divided into two sides: I Came to the City which looks towards the city, and Out of the City and Down by the Seaside, which turns towards nature. Joni Mitchell develops these themes with her open tuning, her high, clear, mesmerising voice, and a certain melodic richness. A big drawback to Songs to a Seagull is its original mix, which sounds almost shameful. This error was rectified for the 2021 re-release by sound engineer Matt Lee. "The original mix was atrocious. It sounded like it was recorded under a jello bowl, so I fixed it!"

With Clouds, Joni Mitchell ploughs a similar furrow, but with greater harmonic and instrumental richness. The themes she addresses on this second album remain transparent enough, from the personal and introspective (I Don't Know Where I Stand) to the tormented and fearful (The Fiddle and the Drum), but the music has become denser.

This feeling will intensify with Ladies of the Canyon, a hit which boosted her reputation. This third album saw the singer transform her folk sound with richer lyrics and increasingly subtle arrangements. Joni Mitchell was achieving unprecedented sophistication and becoming a unique star in the orbit of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, to whom she was still very much attached. Critics and audiences quickly fell in love with all of these quirks. But in spite of her fame she still yearned for freedom, and to get away from the limelight. So after Ladies of the Canyon was recorded, naturally Joni Mitchell wanted to set out travelling.

One year later, Blue came out. Her fourth album on Reprise, it proved a cornerstone of her introspective, stripped-down folk sound. For all its lack of artifice and repetitive ingredients, this was a work of peerless grace and depth. A masterpiece conceived as a private journal set to music, it marked a real turning point in the career of the 28-year-old musician. This remaster offers up a definitive version. After summing up his maverick tendencies on Scary Monsters, David Bowie aimed for the mainstream with Let's Dance. Hiring Chic guitarist Nile Rodgers as a co-producer, Bowie created a stylish, synthesized post-disco dance music that was equally informed by classic soul and the emerging new romantic subgenre of new wave, which was ironically heavily inspired by Bowie himself. Let's Dance comes tearing out of the gate, propulsed by the skittering "Modern Love," the seductively menacing "China Girl," and the brittle funk of the title track. All three songs became international hits, and for good reason -- they're catchy, accessible pop songs that have just enough of an alien edge to make them distinctive. However, that careful balance is quickly thrown off by a succession of pleasant but unremarkable plastic soul workouts. "Cat People" and a cover of Metro's "Criminal World" are relatively strong songs, but the remainder of the album indicates that Bowie was entering a songwriting slump. However, the three hits were enough to make the album a massive hit, and their power hasn't diminished over the years, even if the rest of the record sounds like an artifact.

Progressive Rock is a magical world of sounds. Yet, it is very challenging and people love it for its richness, complexity, dramatic epic sounds and top musicianship. I got into it for its melodies. Early Genesis, King Crimson, Camel, Yes, Pink Floyd created worlds of unique and special music. When Tommaso Monopoli, the amazing drummer, raised the idea for me to write a prog rock album, It was sounding impossible at first , but I took the challenge. While not a pure prog album, the result is kinda the feel of Prog blended with Classic Rock. In order to create this sound I was very luck to work with such amazing musicians as Tommaso with a unique drum style, Amadeo Zunino on Bass and many more super talents. And of course Marco Buono, the master of vocals, make this album very very special.

The second album from the melodic progressive metal band Darkwater. Mixed and mastered by Fredrik Nordström and Henrik Udd (In Flames, Hammerfall, Dimmu Borgir) at Studio Fredman. "Where Stories End" is a master piece of melodic progressive metal, and will not leave any fans of the band or the genre disappointed.

Darkwater was formed late 2003 in the western parts of Sweden. During the first years of existence they only did a few selected shows in Sweden while working on the material for their debut album. During summer and fall 2006, Darkwater recorded and mixed the album, and early 2007 a deal was inked with the Swedish label Ulterium Records.

"Calling the earth to witness" was released in May 2007 and received extremely good reviews from all around the world. Darkwater's perfect blend of melodic and progressive metal was something the scene was craving for, and while taking inspiration from bands like Symphony X, Dream Theater and Evergrey, Darkwater have for sure created a sound of their own.

In May 2008 Darkwater recorded and released a music video for the track "The play II" and in June they went did their first show in the US, at the Bay Area Rock Fest together with Liquid Tension Experiment, Jeff Scott Soto among others.

During 2009 the band parted ways with their bass player Karl Wassholm, and stepping in as bass player for the band is Simon Andersson [ex. Pain of Salvation].

In April 2010 Darkwater started to record their new album "Where stories end". The famous Studio Fredman was chosen for the mix and mastering of the album, and during summer the album was completed. The band also recorded a music video for the opening track of the album "Breathe".

With all the great reviews and response for their debut album, Darkwater surely felt some pressure to produce a great follow-up album, which they managed to do without any doubts.

35 years have passed since the legendary MSG concert Live At The Budokan. Like a miracle Michael Schenker returns to Japan with his past original singers from the '80's to celebrate the Michael Schenker Fest with Barden, Bonnet and McAuley at the amazing Tokyo International Forum. 5000 fans witnessed an anthology moment of quintessential hard rock music of the highest calibre. It's a miracle that after all these years, something like this took place with the original band members of MSG. Being able to go back to those days and celebrate the music is an exciting experience for the band, as well as for old and new fans. To being able to re-experience, and for the new audience to get a feel of what it was like, is incredibly enjoyable. For Michael Schenker it was an amazing feeling to have all of his MSG Family from the '80's performing together and especially with Graham Bonnet, who he never got to play any concerts after their Assault Attack album that was originally released in 1982. Fortunately, being able to have the participation of original MSG members such as Gary Barden, Chris Glen and Ted McKenna being part of it, and somehow, to perform with Robin McAuley and Steve Mann again as well, was pretty awesome for Michael Schenker.

Supersonic Blues Machine releasing their band-new studio album Voodoo Nation on June via Provogue/Mascot Label Group. The album once again features another coming together of icons along with some of the most exciting names in blues; Charlie Starr (Blackberry Smoke), Eric Gales, Joe Louis Walker, Ana Popovic, Kirk Fletcher, King Solomon Hicks, Josh Smith & Sonny Landreth.

"The general discontent in the world at the moment is so widespread, we get told to embrace it because that's life," says bassist Fabrizio Grossi. "No, that's not life," he asserts. "It's how we're forced to live nowadays. 'Voodoo Nation' refers to the times we're living in, at least here in the States, but I guess the whole world can relate. We're getting to the point where we're living out life almost as Zombies. We're little machines."

At the core of the band is producer/bass player Fabrizio Grossi (Steve Vai, Alice Cooper, George Clinton, Slash) and drummer Kenny Aronoff (John Mellencamp, Meat Loaf, Brandon Flowers, John Fogerty, Red Hot Chili Peppers) with British rocker Kris Barras as singer-guitarist. Barras has a recent UK Top 30 album chart hit in March himself, and he is leading the pack of the British hard rock revival with several A-list singles, BBC Radio appearances and sell-out shows.

Voodoo Nation is the band's third studio album. On their evolution, Fabrizio says, "Kris comes from this British school of hard rock and blues. This is a different sound to Kenny and me with the Allman Brothers, Sly Stone & The Family & Mountain. On Californisoul (2017), we were going more West Coast Funkadelic 60s and overall jam vibe. Blues but with more of a hippy flower power." "With Kris, we wanted his footprint there, so that's why you hear Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and Gary Moore. Kind of a Union Jack imprint over a Star-Spangled Banner."

RXPTRS (pronounced "Raptors") are a new wave of British rock. The energetic quintet combines ferocious grit with an ear for melody. It's great cosmic justice that the least flamboyant member of the Nicks/Buckingham version of Fleetwood Mac is also the one who contributed many of the band's best songs, including "Say You Love Me," "Over My Head," "Don't Stop" and the divine, "Songbird." Only that last tune, in greatly altered form, appears on this compilation that focuses on Christine McVie's two solo albums, Christine McVie (1984) and especially, In The Meantime (2004). The decision not to include anything from her first band Chicken Shack's two albums, her self-titled solo debut, or any of her Fleetwood Mac material outside of the title track keeps this from being a more complete picture of her singing, piano playing and often breathtaking songwriting. Licensing challenges are likely culprits for the lack of Fleetwood Mac material, but the omission of her biggest solo hit, the very Mac-esque "Got a Hold on Me" from her debut (which featured the talents of Lindsey Buckingham, Steve Winwood and Steve Ferrone) is mystifying. What's here though has been fully remixed by producer Glyn Johns (The Rolling Stones, The Beatles) who tinkered with levels and moved instruments around in the mix without changing the originals in hugely obvious ways. This collection also contains two unreleased tracks-the bouncy guitar-led "Slow Down," which was originally written and recorded for the 1985 film American Flyers but went unused, and the heartbreak ballad "All You Gotta Do," a duet McVie wrote and recorded with the late George Hawkins (whose bass is heard on all but one of the album's songs). Originally left unfinished, "All You Gotta Do" was completed by adding Ricky Peterson on organ and Glyn Johns' son, Ethan on drums and guitar. Most interesting is the orchestral version of "Songbird" where the brilliantly talented arranger and composer Vince Mendoza builds a lush string setting around McVie's original vocals from the Rumours session to give the song an even more ethereal, slightly less lonely feel than the original. Listening to Regina Spektor's music is like having a one-on-one conversation with someone who not only knows her own mind but is constantly reexamining her feelings while connecting with larger overarching truths through the smallest, most intimate details of everyday life. Six years have passed since Spektor's last album, and given that she was also pregnant while recording this new one, it was almost a sure thing that her pandemic album was going to be a powerful ringer. Even measured against her previous catalog of uniformly appealing, inventive albums, Home, before and after is bursting with creative energies. Opening with alternating notes on piano, "Loveology" is Spektor at her playful, melodic best. The same holds true for the rhythmic echo pop of "SugarMan" where she coos the wonderful second couplet: "I'm not your doll/ I'm not your pet/ But I'm not my own/ Ever since we met." The Bronx, New York-raised Spektor salutes her hometown in the album's first single, "Becoming All Alone," which settles into an engaging mid-tempo groove, swinging between unadorned piano and voice and sweeping string/horn/synth orchestrations with backing vocals from her husband Jack Dishel. The urgent "Up the Mountain" gallops along over undulating strings, slowing near the middle, before revealing the key verse: "On the mountain there's a forest/ In the forest there's a garden/ In the garden there's a flower/ In the flower there's a nectar/ In the nectar there's an answer /In that answer there's another." Three lines in "Raindrops" sum up her powers of observation: "Round each corner there's a chance/ People searching glance to glance/ Moving about real fast like insects and fish when they're scared." It's clear that Spektor's songwriting has been super-charged in the years since her last record, nowhere more evident than in the 8-minute plus mini-symphony-opera-performance piece, "Spacetime Fairytale." Backed by a lush, momentous orchestral arrangement from Jherek Bischoff, Spektor plays piano and sings that while there's no such thing as time "This world began outside of time/ Some days it's yours, some days it's mine/ Some days it's cruel, some days it's kind/ It just can't stay the same." Before a percussive tap dance interlude by Caleb Teicher, she returns to a more intimate reflection on time, "My mind is full of melodies/ They search for homes inside of me/ Like begging, pleading refugees/ But I can't find the time." Producer John Congleton, who is making a specialty of working with talented female singer-songwriters (Angel Olsen, Sharon Van Etten, St. Vincent), adds structure, tempos and a weighty synth presence to everything. He also functions as the band playing bass, synths, keyboards, drums, percussion, and drum programming. With Congleton and Ariel Shafir engineering, the album has a spacious feel while retaining Spektor's sonic signature of a close-miked voice. String and horn arrangements, played by FAME'S Skopje Studio Orchestra, are handled by the hugely talented Bischoff, who has written commissions for Kronos Quartet as well as original compositions for film, TV, and the stage.
