"In Victory" is a follow-up to 2020's "Enter the Gates" and is most definitely an album that will get defenders of Old-School Heavy Metal excited about it! Through the album's 9 non-stop headbanging tracks, an epic journey will unfold where fans will identify everything that made the genre great - anthemic choruses and solos, hard-hitting riffs and faith in Heavy Metal as a symbol of brotherhood and the fight against Evil.

SINSID's new album shows the Norwegian quintet at its best, inspired and never so powerful. One thing that's more evident compared to previous works "Mission from Hell" (2018) and "Enter the Gates" (2020) is the more frequent use of the double bass drum. The band sounds as good as ever with an improved contemporary production which however still managed to maintain that "old school" feeling.

Originally formed in 2012, SINSID's influences include anything from the blues and rock to metal and Viking or thrash but the very core of the band is, unmistakably, traditional heavy metal. The band's debut triumphantly introduced SINSID to the metal world and quickly gained the band a massive new following, with reviews referring to it as "good old, honest, working-class metal" and "couldn't be more metal if it was hammered over an anvil!"

Much will be made of Wilco recording a "country" album. Frontman Jeff Tweedy has said that "country music is simply designed to aim squarely at the low-hanging fruit of the truth"-but that's an idealistic vision that isn't always true any more. It's more that the genre understands universality, creating a fantasy of what love should be, of revenge, of a simpler life and time to enjoy it (even if it's just long enough for a cold beer). Or, too often, the "truth" is little more than a furrowed eyebrow sighing for three minutes over something truly horrible in the world. Thank goodness Wilco doesn't seem to know this. This record is brutally, beautifully honest. "I don't mind/ When certain people die/ I can't cry/ I wonder why," Tweedy sings on the lazily dreamy "Hearts Hard to Find," confessing something no one is supposed to say out loud. "It's worse than neglected when you need the one who loves no more," he describes Southern border migration on "I Am My Mother." "There is no middle/ When the other side would rather kill than compromise," goes "Hints," an easy connect-the-dots to Mermaid Avenue, the band's Woody Guthrie project with Billy Bragg-and it doesn't get more authentically American or country than Guthrie (even if the genre remains sheepish about Guthrie's socialism). Wilco's music has always had trace elements of the Grateful Dead-which is, as Margo Price brilliantly put it, "country music for people who also like LSD." (In the case of Wilco, it's probably more like Dad Grass.) You can hear it on the title track with its loose and jangling beat, or the sweet and easy skiffle of "All Across the World." "Many Worlds," meanwhile, is a seven-minute-long countrified trip that deserves its own laser show. ("When I look at the sky/ I think of all the stars that've died," Tweedy sings, securing his place as the alt-rock Eeyore.) And when the band doubles down on country sounds, it's a delight. "A Lifetime to Find" is great, an upbeat honky-tonk exchange between a mortal and the grim reaper: "Oh Death, oh Death/ I was just getting dressed/ The place is a mess/ I was hoping you'd forget" is answered with "Oh yes, oh yes/ Death never rests!" "Falling Apart (Right Now)" is extra twangy, delving deep into the canyons; "Ambulance" flirts with delicate fingerpicking; "Please Be Wrong" has an early '60s standard feel akin to Willie Nelson's "Hello Walls." There are lovely surprises, like the somber horns of "Darkness Is Cheap" (cribbing from Dickens' A Christmas Carol: "Darkness is cheap, and so Scrooge liked it.") And the lightly racing "Bird Without a Tail / Base of My Skull" features word-play lyrics like the lullaby "Hush, Little Baby," each line riffing off the previous: "When the sky began to roar like a lion at my door/ When my door began to crack it's like a stick across my back/ When my back began to smart, was a pen knife in my heart." © Shelly Ridenour/Qobuz

"This record being the third in a trilogy of song collections mostly based on film music I wrote for Spike Lee over the past few years, I wanted to move to some new stylistic places and maybe make a more upbeat record overall. We don't get a ballad until #7, the pandemic shut-down era piece "Days Ahead" ( a duet with Danielle Haim). Lyrically the record is dotted with three Covid-related songs; the aforementioned, "Tag" and the album opener "Sidelines" (a duet with Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend), and otherwise ranges far afield with the world of science again a recurring influence ("Lidar" and "Point Omega"). The record also includes the first cover song I've ever put on a studio release, a total re-imagining of Chuck Berry's "Too Much Monkey Business." The album title 'Flicted relates to this strange time in which we live, when the world is basically, well, 'flicted!"

10 years after their last album, Rammstein is back in business with a new album, making this quite an event; in 25 years of being active, they sold 20 million records, managing to get Americans to listen to German-language metal. The first single Deutschland is rather ironic with this supposed mise en abîme of the history of their country, but is above all triumphant, dark and extremely powerful. Unstoppable, even, thanks to this chorus that forces us to sing with them.

Despite metal guitars in the intro, the following track Radio is almost pop, and there is even an acoustic interlude at the end of Diamant. Auslander sounds like a last dance, with some words in French, Italian and English. It's a very hypnotic album, and one that would be difficult to not listen on loop. Above all, beware of Puppe's seductive oriental kiss, he lets us imagine the worst abuses imposed on this doll. Rammstein handles the art of fire of ice with their talent and brilliance, which is exactly what we love about them. © Christian Eudeline/Qobuz

Wilco evolved at remarkable speed after forming in 1994, almost immediately after the breakup of Uncle Tupelo. Their debut album, 1995's A.M., was an upbeat set of alt-country that bore few, if any surprises, but 1996's Being There was a major creative departure that moved far beyond the boundaries of roots music. 1999's Summerteeth was initially controversial among fans because it marked the spot where Wilco almost entirely abandoned the country influences that had once been the core of Jeff Tweedy's music. Instead, Tweedy and Jay Bennett, who had gone from being the group's guitarist to manning a massive bank of keyboards and becoming Tweedy's primary collaborator in the studio, concocted a stunning set of off-kilter pop, suggesting a Midwestern fusion of peak-era Brian Wilson and Big Star's 3rd. ("Pieholden Suite" in particular is a lovely homage to the Beach Boys' Smile, then still circulating only in bootleg form.) At the same time, this was brilliantly constructed pop music was also pop with a dark and troubling center; the violence at the heart of "She's a Jar" and "Via Chicago" is too blunt to avoid, and even the brightest moments ("Can't Stand It," "A Shot in the Arm," and "When You Wake Up Feeling Old") sound and feel emotionally out of balance, giving this a complicated emotional push-and-pull that reinforces the resonance of the performances. (The album's most lovable pop tune, "Candyfloss," significantly comes near the end of the set, bookended after a 20-second burst of silence.) While Wilco was inarguably Jeff Tweedy's band at this point, Summerteeth was the apex of his collaboration with Jay Bennett, even more so than 2002's Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, and while John Stirratt and Ken Coomer were their strong, reliable selves as a rhythm section, it's Bennett's keyboards and production smarts that give life to a set of great, uncompromising songs. If Being There was the album where Jeff Tweedy embraced all that was possible with Wilco, Summerteeth was where he closed the door on the past and boldly stepped into a very different future.

After their critically acclaimed debut Back In The World Of Adventures Sweden´s best loved progressive rock band returned in 1996 with the suitably retro sounding Retropolis. As the title suggested the music was a nostalgic nod to the 70´s, paying tribute to the bands that originally influenced them. The band was clearly beginning to build their own identity on this release with a mixture of bombastic epics and melancholic ballads. A feast for lovers of Hammond and Mellotron.

"Retropolis is the album that brought the Flower Kings from an interesting underground progressive rock band to an act that simply couldn't be ignored by anyone interested in the genre's 1990s revival. Roine Stolt and consorts' aim for Retropolis was to dive a little more into vintage progressive forms (retro) and, indeed, this album is the most nostalgic and closer-to-the-roots-sounding of the band's catalog. From the Pink Floyd-shaped "Rhythm of the Sea" to the poignant Yes-like hymn "There Is More to This World," the Flower Kings sound like they are paying tribute to the groups that brought them to do what they are doing, without ever falling into plagiarism or sacrificing the band's own identity. "Melting Pot," "The Judas Kiss," and the powerful instrumental "Retropolis" are the album's other highlights. Very strong composition-wise, Retropolis lacked some cohesion. It is one of the band's most song-oriented albums (with The Flower King). In comparison, the following effort Stardust We Are will have a stronger identity but at times weaker material." Formed by the ever prolific Roine Stolt (Kaipa, The Tangent, Transatlantic), The Flower Kings were actually born after the release of Stolt´s solo album The Flower King in 1994. Back In The World Of Adventures was the band´s first proper album together and was released in 1995 to wide critical acclaim in the progressive rock community.

The line up on the band´s debut featured keyboardist Tomas Bodin, who was the perfect match for the adventurous Stolt. Saxophonist Ulf Wallander contributes his own special brand of magic to the mix while drummer Jaime Salazar keeps the rhythm together with consummate cool.

"Roine Stolt's voice is strong, full, passionate, and delightfully accented. The Flower Kings' lyrics are heady, compelling, and hook city. The guitar work is extremely melodic and rates right up there with anything Brian May or David Gilmour has offered. Stolt is expertly meshed in this band with brother Michael on bass and voice. Tomas Bodin excels on Hammond organ, Mellotron, piano, and flute. Hans Bruniusson plays percussion alongside Jaime Salazar on drum kit, while Ulf Wallander guests on sax. The ten songs here are split between five instrumentals and five featuring great vocals mingled with extended instrumental bridges and a variety of sonic excursions. Each piece is a rocking, swirling matrix of multifaceted sound, with the opening "World of Adventures" a particular highlight. Take the best of Crack the Sky, Pink Floyd, early Genesis, and the slick cool pop/rock of Queen and Prince's 1999, mix everything together in the cauldron of Stolt's vision of world peace, and out comes a fresh batch of magic." If Jade Warrior's second album has any overwhelming flaw, it is that its predecessor traveled so far off the conventional beaten tracks of early-'70s prog that anything less than absolute reinvention could only be regarded as a rerun of past glories. To write off Released as little more than a slapdash shadow of Jade Warrior, however, is to overlook the leaps and bounds that the band did make. The opening "Eyes On You" journeys in on a positively spiky guitar and horn duel, while Glyn Havard's vocals have taken on tones that are far-removed from the Jethro Tull-shaped nuances with which they were once most readily compared. Staggering, too, are the almost bluesy guitar work-outs that leap unexpectedly in and out of the mix, overwhelming all but the most ferocious elements elsewhere in the arsenal -- judging only by the crescendo that closes it, "Three Horned Dragon King" could not have been better named. Similarly, "Water Curtain Cave" is as much a melting of souls as it is a gentle song, while other numbers tackle light jazz and classical prog without once vacating the band's accustomed framework of brilliance. Again, there is little here that Jade Warrior itself did not predict, but the unerring delivery of those predictions is a marvel in itself.

Arriving with the force of a hurricane, Oasis' third album, Be Here Now, is a bright, bold, colorful tour de force that simply steamrolls over any criticism. The key to Oasis' sound is its inevitability -- they are unwavering in their confidence, which means that even the hardest rockers are slow, steady, and heavy, not fast. And that self-possessed confidence, that belief in their greatness, makes Be Here Now intensely enjoyable, even though it offers no real songwriting breakthroughs. Noel Gallagher remains a remarkably talented synthesist, bringing together disparate strands -- "D'You Know What I Mean" has an N.W.A drum loop, a Zeppelin-esque wall of guitars, electronica gurgles, and lyrical allusions to the Beatles and Dylan -- to create impossibly catchy songs that sound fresh, no matter how many older songs he references. He may be working familiar territory throughout Be Here Now, but it doesn't matter because the craftsmanship is good. "The Girl in the Dirty Shirt" is irresistible pop, and epics like "Magic Pie" and "All Around the World" simply soar, while the rockers "My Big Mouth," "It's Getting Better (Man!!)," and "Be Here Now" attack with a bone-crunching force. Noel is smart enough to balance his classicist tendencies with spacious, open production, filling the album with found sounds, layers of guitars, keyboards, and strings, giving the record its humongous, immediate feel. The sprawling sound and huge melodic hooks would be enough to make Be Here Now a winner, but Liam Gallagher's vocals give the album emotional resonance. Singing better than ever, Liam injects venom into the rockers, but he also delivers the nakedly emotional lyrics of "Don't Go Away" with affecting vulnerability. That combination of violence and sensitivity gives Oasis an emotional core and makes Be Here Now a triumphant album.

When Opeth released Heritage in 2011 -- the wonderfully indulgent, somewhat unfocused exercise in prog rock aesthetics -- some longstanding fans were offended because the band had abandoned death metal. Truthfully, they had been exploring prog in fits and starts since 2005's Ghost Reveries. Pale Communion completes the transition, proving that Heritage was not only a next step, but a new beginning altogether. Vocalist, songwriter, and guitarist Mikael Åkerfeldt has obviously been listening to loads of prog in the interim -- ELP's debut, Deep Purple's In Rock, early King Crimson and Eloy, National Health, U.K., Bill Bruford's early solo work, Pär Lindh, and even jazz fusion. Produced by the singer and mixed by Steven Wilson, Pale Communion states its ambitions outright. Opener "Eternal Rains Will Come" explodes with knotty, labyrinthine organ (from new keyboardist Joakim Svalberg) and Martin Axenrot's skittering, propulsive drums. Åkerfeldt's and Fredrik Åkesson's serpentine yet raucous guitars and Martín Méndez's fat, humming bassline kick in immediately thereafter. They all stop on a dime to be replaced by flute and acoustic piano. After another few moments, they return to establish the song's vamp and melody. Åkerfeldt's multi-tracked vocals don't enter until three minutes in, then give way to a dazzling finish provided by a guitar solo and massive swathes of organ and Mellotron. Lead single "Cusp of Eternity" employs repetitive metal guitar and bass riffs, while the modal melody suggests Middle Eastern origins. "Moon Above, Sun Below" is the set's hinge piece and longest track. It contains no less than five sections in nearly 11 minutes. These are introduced variously by samples of Tibetan thigh-bone trumpet and vibraphones, as well as acoustic guitars, Rhodes piano, thundering organ, anthemic electric guitars atop cracking rim shots, kick drum, and a forceful bassline that creates dynamic textural passages illustrating the rage, loss, and acceptance in Åkerfeldt's lyrics. "Goblin" is an instrumental, a tightrope walk between hard rock and jazz fusion, and it's among the finest things here. This is countered by "River," with rich, multi-layered vocal harmonies, 12-string, piano, glistening cymbal, and snare, highlighted by a melodic electric guitar solo à la Argus-era Wishbone Ash. The metallic syncopation in "Voice of Treason" is dramatic with Eastern interludes via the primary instruments, painted by Mellotron as Åkerfeldt soars. The first half of closer "Faith in Others" is instrumentally sparse; it begins reaching for the skies about halfway through, but gets dialed back to allow the gorgeous melody prominence. Pale Communion is more focused and refined than Heritage. Though they readily display numerous musical influences here, ultimately Opeth sound like no one but themselves. This set is a massive leap forward, not only in terms of style but also in its instrumental and performance acumen; it is nearly unlimited in its creativity.

If any musical justification were needed for the breakup of Simon & Garfunkel, it could be found on this striking collection, Paul Simon's post-split debut. From the opening cut, "Mother and Child Reunion" (a Top Ten hit), Simon, who had snuck several subtle musical explorations into the generally conservative S&G sound, broke free, heralding the rise of reggae with an exuberant track recorded in Jamaica for a song about death.

From there, it was off to Paris for a track in South American style and a rambling story of a fisherman's son, "Duncan" (which made the singles chart). But most of the album had a low-key feel, with Simon on acoustic guitar backed by only a few trusted associates (among them Joe Osborn, Larry Knechtel, David Spinozza, Mike Manieri, Ron Carter, and Hal Blaine, along with such guests as Stefan Grossman, Airto Moreira, and Stephane Grappelli), singing a group of informal, intimate, funny, and closely observed songs (among them the lively Top 40 hit "Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard " ).

It was miles removed from the big, stately ballad style of Bridge Over Troubled Water and signaled that Simon was a versatile songwriter as well as an expressive singer with a much broader range of musical interests than he had previously demonstrated. You didn't miss Art Garfunkel on Paul Simon, not only because Simon didn't write Garfunkel- like showcases for himself, but because the songs he did write showed off his own, more varied musical strengths.

The Norwegian band Satyricon was formed in 1991 and is today one of the world's most famous black metal bands. They have produced work straddling many genres throughout their career and collaborated with well-known artists and ensembles such as Anja Garbarek, Trondheimsolistene, and The Norwegian National Opera Chorus. Now you can experience the band in relation to Norway's most famous artist - Edvard Munch - in one of MUNCH's most spectacular halls.

Satyricon's specially written music meets a selection of paintings and graphics by Munch. The result is a monumental and at the same time intimate experience that captures your senses the minute you step into the hall. The selected works of art draw on existential themes, but also rhythms and waves, which are features we recognise from the world of music. The intersection of Munch's expressive motifs and Satyricon's baseline-heavy music creates room for thought and reflection that goes beyond the realm of black metal alone. Just like Munch, Satyricon's approach is open and inquisitive, constantly evolving. The exhibition's music carries Satyricon's unmistakable signature yet breaks away from anything they've previously created through its format, length, and expression.
