John Mayer sang on his 2001 debut Room for Squares, released when he was 22, about his "quarter-life crisis." Now he's 43 and his latest, Sob Rock, is right on time for the mid-life one. There's a whole lot of taking stock on songs like the what-if ballad "Shouldn't Matter But It Does," which finds him thinking of a former love: "It could've been always, it could've been me/ We could've been busy naming baby number three." The incredibly catchy "New Light" (produced by Kanye West collaborator No ID, it's all upbeat yacht rock and blue-eyed soul), actually feels like a throwback to the lonely-boy longings of Mayer's debut, only now he's "pushing 40 in the friend zone." Meanwhile, "I Guess I Just Feel Like" is pure existentialism: "I guess I just feel like nobody's honest, nobody's true ... I guess I just feel like I'm the same way too," he sings along with slow-burn blues guitar. Mayer has said that pandemic stress pushed him to reach for the "security-blanket" '80s soft rock of his childhood, and the record is at once FM-radio familiar but not a punchline. Credit producer Don Was, who knows from delicious processed cheese, having steered Glenn Frey, Michael McDonald and Paul Young, among others. On the terrific "Last Train Home," Mayer enlists a seen-it-all veteran in the form of Toto percussionist Lenny Castro, but also brings in contemporary country-pop heroine Maren Morris to stand up to the sizzle tone of his PRS Silver Sky guitar. "Til the Right One Comes" bounces like a Christine McVie cut, and the delightful "Wild Blue" never lets you forget that he's a touring guitarist with the Grateful Dead. Mayer's warm rasp-always walking the line of sultry and sad-shines on "Shot in the Dark" and the gently pulsing "Carry Me Away." His offbeat sense of humor, which was entertainingly on display during his lockdown Instagram TV series, doesn't usually make its way into songs. But one of the catchiest on Sob Rock is also one of the most confounding: The music is smooth as silk, the delivery sounds sincere, yet there's Mayer singing Yoda-like lyrics for "Why You No Love Me": "Why you no even care?..." © Shelly Ridenour/Qobuz

Resurrection Kings, consisting of core members Craig Goldy (guitars), Chas West (vocals), and Vinny Appice (drums), have announced their return! "Skygazer", the follow-up to their self-titled debut album, takes up where they left off, offering a magnificent set of songs with big, heavy riffs coupled with loads of catchy hooks and melodies. The album released on July 16, 2021.

Resurrection Kings is a band centered around the talents of Craig Goldy, of Giuffria and DIO fame. The idea for the band sprang from a set of demos he recorded with singer Chas West, a vocalist with an unbelievable set of pipes, who has worked over the years with bands like the Jason Bonham Band, Foreigner, Tribe Of Gypsies, and his own band, West Bound (Frontiers Music Srl). From there, Frontiers President & Head of A&R Serafino Perugino became involved and prompted Goldy to put together a lineup which also included former DIO/Black Sabbath and current Last In Line drummer Vinny Appice. Produced and co-written by Alessandro Del Vecchio (Revolution Saints, Hardline, JORN, etc.), the resulting self-titled debut album was an impressive example of classic hard rock with contemporary production and edge. mixing a vibe of Whitesnake's "1987" with DIO's "Dream Evil" and adding a touch of classic Led Zeppelin and Rainbow. An extremely fun, rockin' record where the musicians were able to stretch their wings and really go for it in their performances.

The band's pure talents and performances here coupled with Del Vecchio's production makes for a massive album that will surely be a hard rock highlight of the year!

Frontiers Music Srl is excited to announce the signing of Big City, a melodic metal band from Norway, to a multi-album deal. Fans of bands such as Firewind, Queensryche, Magnus Karlsson's Free Fall, Europe, Fair Warning, and the like should look forward to being introduced to this exciting band. The band's new album, "Testify X" released on July 16, 2021.

Big City was originally put together by guitarist and songwriter Daniel Olaisen. His plan was to use a vast amount of song ideas and 80's metal influenced guitar riffs that he had stockpiled over the years for a batch of songs with the right players. Frank Orland, who also played with Daniel in Scariot (prog/thrash/heavy band featuring Communic and Spiral Architect members), was an obvious choice to bring to Big City as the second guitarist. Frank Nordeng Roe (Withem, Maraton, session drummer for Circus Maximus and Leprous) was brought in on drums after being discovered by Daniel via some internet research. The band was then completed with Jan Le Brandt on vocals and Geir Inge Olsen, who was brought in as a session bass player.

In 2019, the band started working on a new album and brought in a new singer, Jorgen Bergersen from Rock the Night (Europe cover band) and the new demos caught the interest of Frontiers who moved swiftly to sign the band. "The new album will introduce our new singer. He's done an incredible job and there's more punch and heaviness in his voice. The songs are still varied, from super chill ballad to heavy and light-progressive tunes. Melodies are still in focus and there's plenty of that, as expected. It's simply the best Big City album so far!" says Daniel Olaisen.

Off the release of Medicine At Midnight earlier this year, Foo Fighters have announced their next studio effort. However, the band's 11th album won't be another bevy of alt-rock tunes, instead, the Dave Grohl-led outfit will take a hard detour into the world of disco. The next album by the Foo Fighters come in the form of a Bee Gees cover album entitled Hail Satin and released under the monicker Dee Gees.

Hail Satin feature covers of "You Should Be Dancing", "Shadow Dancing", "Night Fever", "Tragedy", and "More Than A Woman" on the A side. On the B side, however, Dee Gees will revert back to Foo Fighters and provide recent live versions of five Medicine at Midnight tracks, "Making A Fire", "Shame Shame", "Waiting On A War", "No Son Of Mine", "Cloudspotter". Referring to the disco-coated side of Hail Satin, the band advised "For optimal results listen with exposed chest hair and little gold spoon necklace (If you know, you know.)."

Heavy Water's debut album Red Brick City is the result of a lockdown 2020 project between Saxon's Biff Byford and his son Seb Byford, ten songs which bring you on an irrepressible raw blues-backed journey through influences and invention, a journey which has you hooked from the first note.

The foundations for Heavy Water's sound are set in both that incredible father/son chemistry and a lifetime of know-how and experiences. Take the title track -and first single- 'Red Brick City': all steam and smoulder wrapped around a riff Soundgarden would've been proud of, and then there's the sun-soaked smile of 'Follow This Moment' with harmonies evoking the Beach Boys relayed through Led Zeppelin, a gorgeous '70s trip right down to the fade out. Indeed, from the taut, elastic swing of the 'Solution' riff to the rich, layered balladic strains of 'Tree in the Wind', Red Brick City moves with the class and cadence of a cracking journey uniting vintage Rock 'n' Roll sensibilities with the crackle and excitement of a fresh, youthful perspective.

Seb Byford recorded and engineered Red Brick City at the Big Silver Barn in York, UK, while the drums were recorded by Ben Hammond at Reel Recording Studio in York. Seb produced the album with Biff, and Jacky Lehmann mastered. Red Brick City sees Seb take the reins on guitar and vocals, with Biff taking up the bass and vocal mantle. Tom Witts plays the drums, while Dave Kemp rounds out the Heavy Water line-up on keyboards and saxophone. A rich, lustrous ride through profoundly rewarding rock waters. To cap off this family affair, the packaging photos were taken by Steph Byford.

On July 2021, there's going to be a new Rock 'n' Roll sheriff in town, and as their name suggests, Heavy Water aren't for the light-hearted. Dive in, and soak yourself in the purity of their music.

Enigmatic shred wizard Yngwie Malmsteen has said he'll be handling vocal duties himself on his upcoming tour, which supports his forthcoming 22nd studio album, Parabellum.
In a new interview with Rob Rush Radio, Malmsteen was asked whether he plans on hiring a vocalist for the run, to which he replies, "No. No singer. Just me."
The album - which follows 2019's Blue Lightning - is set to Malmsteen's vocals on four of its 10 tracks, including two previously released singles, Wolves at the Door and Relentless Fury.
Later in the interview, the guitarist explains that Parabellum was created with "a very clear vision" in mind.
"The songs are already in my head before recording," he says, "I know what I'm doing - I don't need a producer, I don't need a co-writer, I don't need any of that stuff."
Elsewhere in the conversation, Malmsteen details how he regards being viewed as a inspiration to aspiring guitar players.
"Obviously, it's very flattering to hear good things - and I also hear bad things - so I take everything with a grain of salt. I am extremely self-critical about what I do, so if I don't find my own performance or writing satisfying then it really doesn't matter what people say."

Guitar legend Bernie Marsden releasing his brand-new album 'KINGS' on July, 2021

It's Bernie's first solo album in 7 years and sure to delight his fans and lovers of blues, rock and more besides.

Many will know Bernie Marsden as a founder member of Whitesnake - one of the biggest rock bands of all time.

Since leaving Whitesnake, almost 40 years ago, Bernie has forged an impressive solo career. He is undeniably one of the premier British blues guitarists.

The 'Inspirations Series' is being released as a new collaboration between Conquest Music and Bernie Marsden's Little House Music. The sequence of albums will be released by Conquest Music, and through it Bernie Marsden pays tribute to those musical luminaries who shaped his taste and guitar playing.

'KINGS' - the first of the sequence - is a stunning album that's going to wow blues lovers in particular. It features 10 classic blues songs, originally recorded by the legendary Albert, B.B. & Freddie King. These, Bernie has recorded in a studio in Oxfordshire, aided and abetted by a talented band that just locked into a natural groove. 'KINGS' is chockful of high calibre blues and soul. Fit for a King, indeed. Or three!

What's more, two Bernie Marsden-penned instrumentals - inspired by the Kings - appear as bonus tracks on the album.

Philadelphia instrumentalist four-piece Wail released their self-titled debut July 23 on Translation Loss Records, and across its 10 tracks they jam out like the Philly All-Stars they are by any other name. Featuring Yanni Papadopoulos and Alexi Papadopoulos of Stinking Lizaveta on guitar and bass, EDO's Pete Wilder also on guitar and drummer Grant Calvin Weston, who's worked with James "Blood" Ulmer, Billy Martin and hosts of others in varying jazz, funk and fusion contexts in addition to performing solo, they don't skimp on pedigree, but the hour-long Wail is of course about more than the stuff they've done before. The bounce and surging lead guitar of "Family Man" and the jangly underpinning of swing in preceding opener "He Knows What it Is," building to a fullness of tone and then pulling back to make room for the next solo, the jab-throwing rhythm of "Symmetry" and the way its burgeoning psychedelic feel give over to the nine-minute stretch of "Astronomy"a and the ensuing languid hypnocraft in the first half there - rest assured, they grow freakier as they go - all of these elements come together early on the record to establish a sonic personality with the confidence to go where it wants and follow improvisational whims, but also to build a conversation between the players involved and dive into the chemistry there. Just so happens there's plenty of that to go around.

Napalm Death are an English grindcore band formed in Meriden, West Midlands in 1981.While none of its original members remain in the group since December 1986, the lineup of vocalist Mark "Barney" Greenway, bassist Shane Embury, guitarist Mitch Harris and drummer Danny Herrera has remained consistent of the band's career since 1992's Utopia Banished, although, from 1989 to 2004, Napalm Death were a five-piece band after they added Jesse Pintado as the replacement of one-time guitarist Bill Steer; following Pintado's departure, the band reverted to a four-piece rather than replace him.

The band is credited as pioneers of the grindcore genre by incorporating elements of crust punk and death metal, using a noise-filled sound that uses heavily distorted, down-tuned guitars, grinding overdrive bass, high-speed tempo, blast beats, vocals which consist of incomprehensible growls or high-pitched shrieks, extremely short songs and sociopolitical lyrics. The band's debut album Scum, released in 1987 by Earache Records, proved substantially influential throughout the global metal community.According to the Guinness World Records, their song "You Suffer" is the shortest song ever recorded, at only 1.316 seconds long.

Napalm Death have released sixteen studio albums, and are listed by Nielsen SoundScan as the seventh-best-selling death metal band in the United States.

Led by former Allman Brothers Band guitarist Derek Trucks and blues guitarist and singer Susan Tedeschi (who is also Trucks' spouse), the Tedeschi Trucks Band have become one of the hottest bands on the contemporary blues scene. Playing a muscular fusion of blues, soul, rock, and funk that's emotionally powerful and technically dazzling, the 11-piece Tedeschi Trucks Band won a Grammy Award for their first studio album, 2011's Revelator, but the group is truly at its best in front of a live audience. Live from the Fox Oakland documents the band on the second night of a two-day stand in Northern California in September 2016. Released on video was well as audio, the show captures the group in strong form, with Trucks saying of the Oakland shows, "The last three or four months with this band have been the most growth I've ever been a part of within a group. I haven't found the ceiling yet."

Nitrate is back with their third album; "Renegade", a follow on to their previous highly rated albums "Realworld" in 2018 and "Openwide" in 2019, which achieved great success. Woods adds gasoline to the flames of their new album with five bonus tracks
A neo-psychedelic, freak-folk band from Brooklyn aren't exactly words that go together, but that is what Woods is. Synthesizers, bongos and acoustic guitars aren't exactly sounds that go together, but that is what Woods does. Forgoing long-time conclusions about how folk is supposed to sound, this five-man group has forged new paths and sounds.

On July 23rd, Woods delivered five more bonus tracks to add onto their already stellar full-length project entitled, Strange to Explain [More Strange (Deluxe Edition)]. Though this review will solely focus on these five new songs (two new singles, two outtakes and on alternate version from a track on the original album), much can be said for the original album. From the hard-core alt rock of "Can't Get Out," to the ethereally poppy "Fell So Hard," each track contradicts and twists itself in a way that keeps the music fresh and intriguing. Cover to cover, Strange to Explain [More Strange (Deluxe Edition)] is a continuously phenomenal album that was only made better by the addition of five new pieces.

Alongside Thick As A Brick, 1973's A Passion Play is Jethro Tull's most overtly Progressive and conceptual release, featuring a complex poetic narrative framed by the most adventurous music of the band's career. A #1 US hit on its release, the album offers dazzling virtuoso instrumental passages, evocative synthesiser sequences, and fuses Folk, Jazz and Rock influences in a strikingly unique, wholly Jethro Tull way.

A Passion Play (An Extended Performance) features new Steven Wilson stereo-mixes of the album, alongside Steven Wilson mixes of the infamous 'Chateau Disaster' recordings that preceded it.

In 1972 Jethro Tull were riding high on the crest of a popularity wave. They sold out huge arenas on the back of their critically acclaimed fifth album Thick As A Brick. The question was, how do you follow a concept album comprising a single 44-minute piece of music? The answer was, with a double album of separate songs of course.

For the first time in their five year career Tull went into the studio with an unchanged line-up. Founder member and undisputed leader Ian Anderson was still writing songs on flute, acoustic guitar and now saxophone, and he was again joined by guitarist Martin Barre, bassist Jeffrey Hammond-Hammond, drummer Barriemore Barlow and keyboard player John Evans. But which studio to use?

The first criterion was that it had to be abroad. The second criterion was that the studio of choice had to have a good reputation. The 18th century Château d'Hérouville near Paris had previously been used by Elton John to record Honky Château and by Pink Floyd for Obscured By Clouds. It contained living accommodation as well as studio facilities, and so seemed the ideal choice. What could possibly go wrong?

The choice was a disaster. First up, there were technical problems with the studio itself. Then there was the accommodation... the band all slept in a dormitory, it was very basic which might have been tolerable, had they been the sole occupants of the rooms. Unfortunately, they had unwelcome company, of a bed-bug variety. And then to make matters infinitely worse everybody got food poisoning from the in-house catering.

Unsurprisingly the band decided to go home and the decision was made to ditch the hour or so s worth of music recorded in France. They decided to start from scratch and write a whole new album, instead of trying to somehow regenerate everybody s interest and commitment to something that had already struggled.

And so to A Passion Play, an album that evolved into a 45-minute piece of quasi-prog rock, with complex time-signatures, complex lyrics and, well, complex everything, really. With a mere nine days left in the studio before the next tour, the pressure was on to produce something quickly. The concept explored the notion that choices might still be faced in the afterlife. It recognizes that age-old conflict between good and bad, God and the Devil.

Tonight, Let me begin with a preface to a letter I wrote a few weeks ago from my hotel room in Berlin while on our final tour for this album. I felt the need to write this foreword in light of the heartbreaking tragedies of Nov. 13th, as this project has now taken on an entirely different tone. As has everything, it seems.

The Saint Cecilia EP was put into motion back in October of this year as a celebration of life and music. The concept being that, as our world tour drew to a close this week, we wanted to share our love of both with you in return for everything you have given us.

Now, there is a new, hopeful intention that, even in the smallest way, perhaps these songs can bring a little light into this sometimes dark world. To remind us that music is life, and that hope and healing go hand in hand with song. That much can never be taken away.

To all who were affected by the atrocities in Paris, loved ones and friends, our hearts go out to you and your families. We will return and celebrate life and love with you once again someday with our music. As it should be done.

Can was a German experimental rock band formed in Cologne in 1968 by the core quartet of Holger Czukay (bass, tape editing), Irmin Schmidt (keyboards), Michael Karoli (guitar), and Jaki Liebezeit (drums). The group cycled through several vocalists, most prominently the American-born Malcolm Mooney (1968-70) and the Japanese-born Damo Suzuki (1970-73), as well as various temporary members.

Coming from backgrounds in the avant-garde and jazz, the members of Can blended elements of psychedelic rock, funk, and noise on influential albums such as Tago Mago (1971), Ege Bamyasi (1972) and Future Days (1973).Can also had occasional commercial success, with singles such as "Spoon" and "I Want More" reaching national singles charts. They have been widely hailed as pioneers of the German krautrock scene, and a considerable influence on subsequent rock, post-punk, ambient, and electronic music

Blutengel (German: Blood Angel) (stylized as BlutEngel) is a German electronic music group formed by singer Chris Pohl (also of the groups Terminal Choice, Tumor, and Miss Construction and the owner of the Fear Section label) after he had to leave Seelenkrank due to contractual and legal problems. The lyrics are written primarily in German and English and are presented with male and female vocals. The themes of the songs usually centre around themes common in Gothic fiction such as love, vampirism, sexual fetishism, death, and immortality. The band calls their musical style dark pop.

The band - guitarist Jan Akkerman, keyboard player Thijs van Leer, bass player Bert Ruiter and drummer Pierre van der Linden - enjoyed global success during their first six years, touring extensively in the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia and Japan.

Focus scored two unlikely worldwide hit singles with 'Hocus Pocus' and 'Sylvia' and sold several million albums during this period (such as 'Moving Waves', 'Focus 3' and 'Hamburger Concerto').

50 Years: Anthology 1970-1976 features newly remastered versions of the first five studio albums all of which come with rare bonus tracks (single versions, alternates, rough mixes). Additionally, it includes 1973 live album At The Rainbow, the Ship of Memories compilation from 1976 (which features 11 bonus tracks), the complete BBC In Concert 1973 gig taken from the original stereo master tapes and a disc of unreleased live performances.

Markus Berger founded the band back in 1974, but in 1979 they changed their name to Trance. They are one of the oldest bands in Germany with that typical Teutonic metal style in the veins of Accept and Scorpions.

Four years ago, Trance released the album 'The Loser Strikes Back', a very decent comeback record filled with traditional heavy metal played at full force. 'Metal Forces' is Trance's new album and it finally features a steady line up: the two Dutchmen, ex-Vicious Rumors Nick Holleman [vocals] and Joris Van Rooij [guitar], founding member Markus Berger [guitar], Thomas Klein and drummer Andreas Neudi Neuderth. On 23 April the first single ,,Metal Forces" was released, a fast headbanger track and classic Trance song!

The other songs on 'Metal Forces' are also very traditional, melodic German heavy metal tracks. Apart from the rather "weird" ,,Deep Dance", which is a kind of urban/tribal metal song in the veins of Sepultura.. The album opens with two up-tempo songs [,,The Fighter" and ,,Troublemaker"] featuring those typical German metal characteristics; catchy choruses, galloping rhythms and very recognizable guitar hooks and riffs. The musical influences of Accept, Priest, Saxon and Iced Earth are obvious, but that does not really bother me.

Long Shadows Dawn is a new musical alliance featuring Scottish vocalist Doogie White (Rainbow, Michael Schenker Fest) together with Swedish guitarist Emil Norberg (Persuader).

Doogie and Emil have crafted an amazing hard rock record which invokes memories of the classic '80s era, but think more what the well loved '70s bands were doing in that era versus the bands that had just been introduced to the public eye then. In other words, classic rock influences which lead to a timeless hard rock vibe.

Scottish singer Doogie White first came to prominence when he was asked to audition for the legendary Rainbow, subsequently joining the band in 1994 and releasing the album "Stranger In Us All". Since then, he has worked with Cornerstone (a band he put together with former Royal Hunt member Steen Mogesen), Yngwie Malmesteen's Rising Force, Tank, and, more recently, Michael Schenker Fest and Alcatrazz. His vocal range is rich and distinctive and he is certainly one of the great rock vocalists of his generation.

Emil Norberg cut his teeth playing very aggressive power metal and building the band Persuader, who have released five critically acclaimed albums from 2000 to 2020. Long Shadows Dawn is Norberg's first foray into production outside of Persuader and channels his instinctive Blackmore influences, which he has been developing steadily during the years.

Frontiers Music Srl is release of Circus Of Rock's debut album, "Come One, Come All" on August 2021. Circus Of Rock is a new band, or rather a massive musical project, masterminded by drummer Mirka Rantanen (King Company).

"My musical influences in making "Come One, Come All" come from a mix of artists I've been exposed to over the years. My own bands which I've been involved in and, of course, my own musical idols. In music, I love more than anything classic melodic hard rock and that shows on this album. I wanted to make the kind of music I could stand behind completely. The intention was just to have fun with musicians I admire and have everybody perform great songs," says Circus Of Rock mastermind Mirka Rantanen.

"Come One, Come All" has a killer line-up of singers and musicians. The amazing talents involved come from the likes of Amaranthe, Tyketto, Hardline, Nightwish, Leverage, and more, plus musicians from bands such as Stratovarius, Brother Firetribe, Masterplan, and others.

Mirka Rantanen has a long career in the Finnish hard rock scene. He has played on 40+ albums during his 30 year career, including releases by King Company, Raskasta Joulua, Kotipelto, Warmen, Northern Kings, Revolution Renaissance, and more. In addition, ten years ago he created the very popular heavy rock band for kids called 'Hevisaurus', for which he was awarded the Emma Award in 2011 (the Finnish equivalent of a Grammy).

Cruzh was put together in 2013 after the demise of Swedish glam rockers TrashQueen in which both Anton and Butabi played. The band spent their first years releasing some very well-received self-produced demos. "Hard To Get" and its successor, the darker "Aim For The Head," got great reviews and by late spring of 2015, just when Cruzh was about to release a new EP, they were approached by Frontiers Music Srl who wanted to sign the band to a deal. Cruzh started the album recording process by the end of summer 2015 and their self-titled debut was released in 2016 to rave reviews from the melodic rock community.

Hawklords with Time, their 10th album in 10 years. The package is completed with stunning artwork from the British graphic designer, Martin Cook.

Alirio is a Brazilian singer and actor, one of the most recognized rock voices in Brazil and up-and-coming names amongst the greatest singers in the country. Legendary hard rockers Night Ranger have released their 12th studio album, "ATBPO", which stands for And The Band Played On, an ode to making music during the covid era.

The band began writing the album in early 2020, amid the onset of the global pandemic. After narrowing down the song selection and tightening them up to their well-known rock 'n roll sound, the band hit the studio, although separately, due to the times we are in. Throughout "ATBPO", we hear Night Ranger continuing their hot streak that kicked off with 2011's "Somewhere In California". Ten years on, and two highly acclaimed albums later, "High Road" and "Don't Let Up", the band's latest studio work shows them still burning with that high octane hard rock energy they are known for. Night Ranger has always had a knack for killer melodies, intricate instrumentation, and captivating lyrics; "ATBPO" delivers all of that and more.

Over 40 years have passed since the Canadian prog rock band SAGA released their self-titled debut album in 1978. Since then, they have been an exceptional musical phenomenon and toured the globe various times while selling over 8 million albums worldwide. Their typical trademarks - synthesizer harmonies, breathtaking guitar riffs, complex keyboard arrangements and the charismatic vocals of frontman Michael Sadler - have made Saga one of the most influential acts in the history of rock music.

"Saga's Silent Knight was released just prior to the Canadian quintet's breakthrough album Worlds Apart. Drawing inspiration from Rush, Genesis, and other '70s progressive rock artists, Saga distills their influences through fairly concise song structures that never sound too indulgent -- sort of like what Asia was doing around the same time (but better). Still, there's plenty of evidence of the group's virtuosity here. Although Silent Knight sounds dated, and even a little quaint at times (due in part to the production), Saga would improve its sound and material immeasurably on the next couple of albums."
