Pompeii Then And Now

45 years after Pink Floyd's David Gilmour filmed 'Live At Pompeii' in the legendary Roman Amphitheatre there, he returned for two spectacular shows in July 2016, part of the year-long tour in support of his No.1 album 'Rattle That Lock'. The performances were the first-ever rock concerts for an audience in the stone Roman amphitheatre, and, for two nights only, the 2,600-strong crowd stood exactly where gladiators would have fought in the first century AD.
'David Gilmour Live At Pompeii' is an audio-visual spectacle, featuring lasers, pyrotechnics and a huge circular screen on which specially-created films complement selected songs, but paramount above all is the astonishing music and stellar performances. The show includes songs from throughout David's career, solo and with Pink Floyd, including 'One Of These Days', the only song that was also performed at the band's 1971 show, and six songs from 'Rattle that Lock', as well as two from 2006's 'On An Island'.
Both concerts also saw very special performances of 'The Great Gig In The Sky' from 'The Dark Side Of The Moon', which David rarely plays as a solo artist. 'Live at Pompeii', which is now available on 2-CD, Blu-ray, 2-DVD or deluxe Blu-ray box, includes highlights from the concert performances of both shows, filmed in 4K by director Gavin Elder. 'David Gilmour Live At Pompeii' shows an artist at the top of his artistic game, performing incredible material with his world-class band, in a unique setting, on one very special occasion.
'Live At Pompeii''s striking cover was art directed by Gavin Elder under the creative directorship of Polly Samson, with a photograph by Anna Wloch and design by Steve Knee of Blade Design. All the versions of the release include photo booklets, including live and venue shots taken by Polly Samson, Sarah Lee and Anna Wloch.

This latest addition to the From The Vault series captures a truly unique event in the long and eventful history of The Rolling Stones. On the May 20th, 2015 at the Fonda Theatre in Hollywood, California, the band performed the entire Sticky Fingers album live in concert for the first and so far only time in their career. The show celebrated the reissue of the Sticky Fingers album and was the opening night of The Rolling Stones Zip Code Tour of North America that would run over the next two months. The intimate setting of the Fonda Theatre was in contrast to the huge stadiums in which the band would perform for the rest of the tour and made this an incredibly special occasion for those fans lucky enough to get a ticket. The Blu-ray include interviews with the band members intercut with full length performances.

To The Bone is due to be released on 18th August but is available now to pre-order in a variety of formats, including a special deluxe hard back 120 page book edition, which includes an exclusive full length CD of demos and unused songs, and a one-sided 7 inch vinyl single of a bonus instrumental song from the album sessions. Neither of these will be available anywhere else.
My fifth record is in many ways inspired by the hugely ambitious progressive pop records that I loved in my youth (think Peter Gabriel's So, Kate Bush's Hounds of Love, Talk Talk's Colour of Spring and Tears for Fears' Seeds of Love). Lyrically, the album's eleven tracks veer from the paranoid chaos of the current era in which truth can apparently be a flexible notion, observations of the everyday lives of refugees, terrorists and religious fundamentalists, and a welcome shot of some of the most joyous wide-eyed escapism I've created in my career so far. Something for all the family!

In April 2017 The Who took to the stage at London's Royal Albert Hall to perform their rock opera "Tommy" live in its entirety for the first time in their long and illustrious career. Previous Who live shows had always dropped two, three or four tracks from the album but for this show in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust the band would perform every track. With specially created animations on a huge screen above the stage and creative use of lighting the concert told the story of the "deaf, dumb and blind kid who sure played a mean pinball." In addition, at the end of Tommy, the sell-out crowd was treated to a short set of Who classics. Always a great live band, this performance was a thrilling ride from start to finish.
As well as the incredible full show, we also include some great bonus features. There is a behind the scenes featurette, plus also full screen animations of both The Acid Queen and Pinball Wizard with the live performance audio.

Late in September, British prog rock band Gentle Giant will release a new blu-ray+CD collection called Three Piece Suite which focuses on 1970-1972 and the first three albums (Gentle Giant, Acquiring The Taste and Three Friends). Content includes Steven Wilson 5.1 mixes of some (not all) album tracks, hi-res flat transfers of all three albums and more.

Unfortunately, despite extensive research, not all multi-track tapes could be found, therefore of the 21 album tracks, nine have been remixed in DTS 5.1 Surround Sound surround sound plus a tenth song called Freedom's Child which is a a previously commercially unreleased song taken from the first recording sessions with producer Tony Visconti.

In the summer of 2016, Jeff Beck celebrated 50 years of his musical career with a special concert at the famous Hollywood Bowl. The setlist reached back to his first recordings with The Yardbirds in 1966 and came right up to date with tracks from his most recent album "Loud Hailer." As the evening progressed he was joined by many of the great musicians he has collaborated with over the years including Billy F. Gibbons, Buddy Guy, Jimmy Hall, Jan Hammer, Beth Hart and Steven Tyler. The show climaxed with the guests all joining forces for an exhilarating encore performance of "Purple Rain" in tribute to Prince, who had passed away a couple of months before the concert.

About: In the summer of 2016, Jeff Beck celebrated 50 years of his musical career with a special concert at the famous Hollywood Bowl. The setlist reached back to his first recordings with The Yardbirds in 1966 and came right up to date with tracks from his most recent album “Loud Hailer.” As the evening progressed he was joined by many of the great musicians he has collaborated with over the years including Billy F. Gibbons, Buddy Guy, Jimmy Hall, Jan Hammer, Beth Hart and Steven Tyler. The show climaxed with the guests all joining forces for an exhilarating encore performance of “Purple Rain” in tribute to Prince, who had passed away a couple of months before the concert.

Bruce Soord says about the show and release “It was our last show of the tour and our biggest headline show ever. We had 15 cameras, a massive jib, but more importantly – a sell-out crowd! The pressure was indeed on, but it’s safe to say that the stars aligned for us that night and it turned out to be one of the most memorable performances of our career so far.

With specially created animations on a huge screen above the stage and creative use of lighting the concert told the story of the “deaf, dumb and blind kid who sure played a mean pinball.” In addition, at the end of Tommy, the sell-out crowd was treated to a short set of Who classics. Always a great live band, this performance was a thrilling ride from start to finish.
As well as the incredible full show, we also include some great bonus features. There is a behind the scenes featurette, plus also full screen animations of both The Acid Queen and Pinball Wizard with the live performance audio.

About: This latest addition to the From The Vault series captures a truly unique event in the long and eventful history of The Rolling Stones. On the May 20th, 2015 at the Fonda Theatre in Hollywood, California, the band performed the entire Sticky Fingers album live in concert for the first and so far only time in their career. The show celebrated the reissue of the Sticky Fingers album and was the opening night of The Rolling Stones Zip Code Tour of North America that would run over the next two months. The intimate setting of the Fonda Theatre was in contrast to the huge stadiums in which the band would perform for the rest of the tour and made this an incredibly special occasion for those fans lucky enough to get a ticket. The Blu-ray include interviews with the band members intercut with full length performances.

About: According to some text superimposed on images of a lot of creepy crawly bugs on this new Blu-ray, Day of the Gusano translates as Day of the Maggot. "Maggot" is furthermore offered as a synonym for "fan" somewhat later in this unexpectedly endearing combo platter (hopefully maggot free) of concert footage shot in Mexico City and some very appealing candid stuff featuring both the band and a slew of Mexican fans. One would hardly think of Slipknot and "touchy, feely" in the same sentence (at least I wouldn't), but Day of the Gusano turns out to be unexpectedly emotionally resonant, at least in its "documentary" side. The actual musical elements are not exactly paradigms of subtlety, but they present the band's manic tendencies in all their thrashing, head banging power.

The Concert in Hyde Park captures a celebratory concert Paul Simon gave in London's Hyde Park on July 15, 2012. For that show, he reconvened many of the musicians who played on 1986's Graceland, including Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Hugh Masekela, and invited Jimmy Cliff to play an extended mini-set early in the show, while bringing Jerry Douglas on-stage to play on "The Boxer" near the close. Simon runs through almost all of Graceland but not in order ("All Around the World or the Myth of Fingerprints" is MIA). He punctuates the album with lively versions of his classic hits -- mainly from his solo career, although "The Sound of Silence" is here -- but the focus remains on the elasticity of Graceland, since this band plays lively, somewhat unpredictable arrangements of these familiar numbers. More than the Graceland material itself, these versions show how the album continues to inspire Simon, pushing him to try new things even on old tunes.

It was Tito & Tarantula's third concert in Germany and it shows that their musical reputation did not crumble to dust in broad daylight at all. At that time the violinist and mandolin player Lyn Bertles gave the band a more folkloristic touch. That and the simmering mixture of blues, rock and Americana with Mexican influences put the German crowd under the same spell as the shady spectators in the famous movie scene. In the following years, Tito & Tarantula released albums in changing formations and touring regularly on our continent as well. The included bonus concert recorded in 2002 in Sarajevo certainly is one of the more unusual gigs in a musician's life. Originally intended to be a club show, the band attracted a far larger crowd than expected. The concert had to be moved to the streets and made a virtue of necessity, transforming it into a spontaneous open air show.

About: In the summer of 2016, Jeff Beck celebrated 50 years of his musical career with a special concert at the famous Hollywood Bowl. The setlist reached back to his first recordings with The Yardbirds in 1966 and came right up to date with tracks from his most recent album “Loud Hailer.” As the evening progressed he was joined by many of the great musicians he has collaborated with over the years including Billy F. Gibbons, Buddy Guy, Jimmy Hall, Jan Hammer, Beth Hart and Steven Tyler. The show climaxed with the guests all joining forces for an exhilarating encore performance of “Purple Rain” in tribute to Prince, who had passed away a couple of months before the concert.
