Durante la década de los 20, Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel hace sus primeras apariciones y produce varios cambios importantes dentro del ámbito de la moda. Ella es la primera en usar las "modelos", mujeres delgadas, bellas y desconocidas,en vez de actrizes y cantantes, para mostrar su coleccion.

En esta época la diferencia entre "Haute Couture" (alta costura) y prét-a-portèr (listo para usar) todavia no esta tan marcada como hoy en dia.

El maquillaje es muy sobrecargado, sin importar si se ve poco natural. Los ojos se pintan de negro, los labios de rojo, y las cejas estan depliadas de forma semicircular. Coco Chanel impone la tendecia de usar la piel mas morena que se empieza a considerar bella y delicada.

En 1925 aparece la primer laca de uñas de color.

Grandes iconos de esta época son, entre otros, Marlene Dietrich, Madelaine Vionnet, Coco Chanel, Claudette Colbert, Louise Brooks
