Después de trabajar como modista durante unos años en una tienda de sombreros en París, abrió la tienda de su propia sombrerería en 1910 llamado Modos de Chanel y una segunda tienda en París en 1914 con la ayuda de su novio y financiero, Arthur "Boy" Capel. En 1917, Coco Chanel presentó su primera colección de alta costura en París. La más temprana versión de la “petite robe noire” fue creada por Coco Chanel en 1926 con el propósito de simplificar la vida de la mujer con estilo, buen gusto y practicidad. Era una excelente muestra del camino más corto a la elegancia. La personalización se lograba con el uso de los accesorios. Características de un clásico ¿Cómo era el pequeño vestido negro de Coco Chanel? El vestido debía necesariamente cubrir las rodillas, evitando cualquier detalle decorativo como volados, bordados o drapeados. En el caso de tener mangas, éstas debían ser angostas y sin decoración. No podía faltar un claro acento en la cintura justo en el corte. Los zapatos para acompañar el vestido debían ser cerrados. En cuanto a la cartera, la mejor variante era una negra con cadenita tipo "Chanel". |

Durante la década de los 20, Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel hace sus primeras apariciones y produce varios cambios importantes dentro del ámbito de la moda. El maquillaje es muy sobrecargado, sin importar si se ve poco natural. Los ojos se pintan de negro, los labios de rojo, y las cejas estan depliadas de forma semicircular. Coco Chanel impone la tendecia de usar la piel mas morena que se empieza a considerar bella y delicada. En 1925 aparece la primer laca de uñas de color. Grandes iconos de esta época son, entre otros, Marlene Dietrich, Madelaine Vionnet, Coco Chanel, Claudette Colbert, Louise Brooks Cambio en la silueta femenina desde fines del siglo 19 hasta 1917. |
