Since it's a special thing for us, we always try to make it special for everyone else as well. Having the show at Sodra Teatern made finding these special things easier than if we had been at a different location since just being there provided us with a beautifully haunting backdrop and gave us half of the ideas. Having the show in two acts is something that we've had in mind for quite some time and being at an old theatre obviously made this the perfect opportunity. Along with the two acts we also had Orvar Safstrom as a compere or as a, more dramatic sounding, master of ceremonies framing the evening with two short speeches at the beginning of each act. We played "Down Below" from start til finish in the first act with a stage set up we've never used before, something that could hint at a future development. Time will tell. The effort contains three brand new tracks as well as new recordings (studio and live) of two SODOM classics. The close relationship between a metal band and its fans can be measured by - among other things - how long the group makes its supporters wait for new songs. So looking at it from that perspective, SODOM is definitely exemplary seeing that it has always supplied their huge following with new material at regular intervals. Certainly, the band's monster modern rock does sound like it could slip onto an active rock playlist -- maybe not quite in 2009, but earlier in the decade, when metallic rockers heavy on the guitar downstrokes and power ballads with chant-along vocals were relatively common. That's not to say that Skillet sound out-of-step with the times -- there's still a gleam to the Howard Benson production that sounds modern -- and they do mange to imprint their own identity on this sometimes generic brand of contemporary rock, thanks to their communal vocals, with male and female voices trading off and skyscraper hooks.
