Juan Manuel "Juan Ma" Lopez 25-0, 23 KO's defended his WBO Super Bantamweight/Jr. Featherweight 122 lb. successfully against the best 118 fighter in the world and the WBO Bantamweight champ, Gerry Penalosa, 54-7-2, 36 KO's. Gerry's strategy was to make it through to the later rounds and then turn up the action but it backfired as Juan Ma never got tired throwing a record [for that weight division] 136 punches in the 7th round, connecting 87. Freddie Roach mercifully and wisely stopped the fight as the connect ratio for Juan Ma was growing and Gerry was taking some serious shots. After the fight, Gerry made his way around the ring waving to the fans and we showed him the respect he deserved and clapped in appreciation of such a game warrior.
