Se mudó de Memphis hasta Nueva York para dedicarse a la pintura; pero cambió a la fotografía en 1977 cuando comenzó a documentar la escena rockera del mítico CBGB. Desde ese momento se dedicó a la fotografía de grandes artistas, como: Bob Marley, Neil Young, Ravi Shankar, Phillip Glass, Bob Dylan, R.E.M., The Ramones, The Cure, The Pretenders, Robert Plant, Bruce Springsteen, Miles Davis, Talking Heads, The Clash y Bon Jovi. Su trabajo ha sido expuesto en especiales de VH1, posters, avisos, innumerables galerías y colecciones privadas.
