Viña del Mar (200



Impresionante debut del filipino Arnel Pineda al frente de Journey en el Festival chileno Viña del Mar 08. Si éste era su primer exámen, lo aprobó con creces. Ya era hora de que la banda tuviese un cantante que no haga extrañar a Steve Perry, sin desmerecer con esto a Steve Augeri. Pero Pineda lleva a las canciones de Journey en la sangre y se nota. Me hace acordar al Steve Perry de principios de los 80, y hasta físicamente da el tipo, aunque Pineda sea más menudo. Y tuvo escena, corrió, saltó, gritó, se saludó con el público...

El show fue de más de una hora y la gente estuvo desde el comienzo rendida. Pasaron clásicos inoxidables como "Separate Ways", "Rubicon", "Stone in Love", "Ask The Lonely", "Lights", "Wheels in the Sky", "Open Arms", "Only The Young", "Chain Reaction", "Edge of The Blade", "Faithfully", "Don't Stop Believing", "Any Way You Want It" y el cierre no programado con "Loving, Touching, Squeezing".

La banda un relojito, resta decir que Dean Castronovo es uno de los mejores bateristas del mundo y el siempre rockero Neal Schon sigue demostrando su poderío sonoro. Pero aquí el protagonista fue Pineda y el pibe se lo tiene merecido: de fan y músico de versiones a integrante, gracias a la tecnología actual. Bienvenido un nuevo Journey.
