Debut album by Versus, an Argentine jazz supergroup made up of Esteban Sehinkman, Gustavo Musso, Mariano Sívori and Pipi Piazzolla. Own songs and standards for this rare electric and electronic quartet where the only one who doesn't play plugged in (for now) is the drummer.

Versus is the group made up of Esteban Sehinkman on keyboards and composition, and half Escalandrum: Gustavo Musso, Mariano Sívori and Pipi Piazzolla. But in this formation Musso and Sívori play plugged in... The former doesn't play the sax but an EWI, an acronym for Electronic Wind Instrument, which means Electronic Wind Instrument. A kind of midi controller but for wind, which requires a performer who knows the secrets of the sax or clarinet, of course. It is not a processed sax: it is another instrument. And the double bass player here plays the electric bass, a version of his that we had already enjoyed on Pájaro de Fuego with Mariana Bianchini, for the album Universo invertido.

It should be remembered that Sehinkman and Musso already had an album recorded as a duet, so this new quartet could also be thought of as the two of them vs. the base of Sívori and Piazzolla. In any case, let's note that the album contains new songs by Sehinkman, some group improvisations and standards (perhaps Va Roman, by Guillermo Klein, isn't it already an RBA standard?) that sound in a new way thanks to the instruments. There is something of 70s prog rock, a vintage very of this moment and the absolute freedom of jazz, always. A record to enjoy with headphones or on a very good computer.
