In 1984 it was time for Dire Straits' first live album. After it turned out that the recordings of the big Love Over Gold tour were all unusable for a release, the band rented the London Hammersmith Odeon on July 22 and 23, 1983, as well as the mobile recording equipment of the Rolling Stones. Mike McKenna was responsible for the recording, and Nigel Walker was used as sound engineer. The set consists of the best known and most popular songs from their first four albums, an EP and the soundtrack to the film "Local Heroes". Even though Dire Straits' music doesn't have an arena rock feel to it, the audience celebrates the songs unbridled, giving generous applause and singing along wherever they can. "Alchemy" is an atmospheric live album with the hits from the band's first four albums.
