71 Chevy Chevelle SS: Old School Tunneado http://www.dubmagazine.com/home/medi...5670c9d0_L.jpg Edgar Lopez’s 1971 Chevy Chevelle has been in the family for about 20 years. Although it was always a goal to restore it to its original beauty, it wasn’t realized until last December, when he surprised his father with the final product as a Christmas present. http://www.dubmagazine.com/home/medi...0copy_edit.jpg LPZ INC’s first two builds were one-off street trucks, and after his father saw the SEMA 2008 widebody Ford F-150 he completed, he hinted to Lopez that he wanted built especially for him. “My father didn’t know about anything the entire build,” Lopez admits. “The bold lines and curves of the Chevelle’s body lines begged to be accentuated with a widebody build. I wanted a clean and classy blend of new school hot rod elements combined with the respect of your old school billet big block flavor. Everything was built in-house by my shop LPZ INC. in Palmdale, CA.” http://www.dubmagazine.com/home/medi...0copy_edit.jpg With the main focus on the fusion of old traditional hues mixed with the modern ways of custom rodding, LPZ INC used billet all around the car, which can be seen on trim, wheels, accessories and more. The custom-built 572 big block engine is the ultimate expression of Chevrolet Performance capabilities and is considered to be the company’s baddest crate engine. http://www.dubmagazine.com/home/medi...0copy_edit.jpg The tan Mercedes-Benz leather upholstery gives it a timeless elegance, while the larger wheel size define its modern footing. Not to mention the fact that LPZ INC cut up a near perfect Chevelle body to widen its rear quarters, front fenders extended and contoured rocker panels, which is thought to be sacrilege in the world of hot rodding. http://www.dubmagazine.com/home/medi...0copy_edit.jpg LPZ INC custom-built the Chevelles' frame in order to give the car a lowered stance and run a wide rear tire while maintaining a functional rear seat, ran Global West Suspension components including front A-arms and a sway bar, while a custom four-link rear end is hooked to a beefy Moser M9 rear end. QA1 double adjustable coilovers provide full control of the ride and stopping power is by custom adapted Corvette ZO6 big brakes. Dual 4” x-piped stainless exhaust with custom flush rocker panel side exists provides a classy look and intimidating growl. To make the Chevelle stand out amongst a crowd, a PPG Candy Apple Red exterior was chosen, which so happens to also be his dad’s favorite color. http://www.dubmagazine.com/home/medi...0copy_edit.jpg The entire build took two years to complete with the final product revealed at the 2015 DUB Show Los Angeles stop. “The responses have been very positive on the build,” Lopez says. “Being in a class of its own, the car is very respected by the new school hot rodders and defends itself amongst the top of the old school hot rod crowd.” Instead of being a show queen, the Chevelle will be a weekend ride for Lopez’s father and they're already thinking about building another Chevelle, this time a wide body droptop version. http://www.dubmagazine.com/home/medi...0copy_edit.jpg Specs: 1971 Chevelle SS Exterior: Custom in-house built frame Moser M9 rear end All-metal widebody exterior 3" rear quarters 2" front fenders Widened wheel wells Extended contoured rocker panels with side exhaust exits Widened flushed and shaved rear bumper Flushed shaved front bumper Shaved led molded rear turn signals Shaved rain gutters Custom matched rear panel quarters http://www.dubmagazine.com/home/medi...0copy_edit.jpg Performance: Mac Elroy Motorsports Custom 572 big block engine Art Carr-built 4l80e automatic transmission Corvette Z06 big Brakes Lemons headers Custom fuel cell Full dual 3" custom stainless steel exhaust with x-pipe http://www.dubmagazine.com/home/medi...0copy_edit.jpg Suspension Custom 4-link suspension Global west front A arm components 2"drop spindle QA1 double adjustable coil overs. http://www.dubmagazine.com/home/medi...0copy_edit.jpg Interior Custom-built dash gauge cluster console glove compartment utilizing the original shape 71 dash pad Fesler-built door panels Electric powered GTO front/rear seats Autometer gauges Fesler-built billet door panel trims and handles Hurst shifter http://www.dubmagazine.com/home/medi...291%20copy.jpg Wheels & Tires 22x9 front and 24x15 rear Intro Billet V Rods Pirelli P Zero Nero 245/25R22 front and 405/25R24 rear tires |
