H.I.M.
 

Es una banda musical procedente de Finlandia. Después de varios cambios en sus componentes, actualmente está formada por

Vocalista Ville Hermanni Valo,

Guitarrista Lily Lazer,

Bajista Migé Amour,

Baterista Gas Lipstick

Teclista Emmerson Burton.

Hasta el momento, es la única banda finlandesa que ha conseguido un disco de oro en EEUU.
Esta banda es reconocida por un distintivo creado por Ville Valo, líder de la banda, que recibe el nombre de Heartagram, el cual es una combinación entre un corazón y un pentagrama invertido, que según Ville Valo representa la unión perfecta entre el mal y el bien; el amor y la muerte, sería como un moderno Ying Yang en el que el corazón sería el Ying y el pentagrama invertido el Yang.
En 2002, salió, únicamente en Finlandia, "Synnin Viemää" escrito por J.K Juntunen, donde el grupo narra su historia y cómo han llegado a darse a conocer al mundo.
El estilo de HIM es debatido, es denominado "love metal" por Valo y los fans de la banda. Ville Valo, delaró que la banda comenzó como una especie de banda tributo a Black Sabbath . En una entrevista del DVD Love Metal Archives Vol. I, Valo declara que él y el resto de la banda estaban hartos de que los periodistas les preguntaran por el estilo de la banda, por lo que crearon el "love metal" (que también es el nombre de su album de 2003). Los críticos los catalogan como rock alternativo, metal gótico, o rock gótico. Sin embargo, su estilo musical varía dependiendo de las canciones y albums.

En sus orígenes, la banda llevaba el nombre de "His Infernal Majesty" (Su Majestad Infernal), que luego pasó a ser llamado con sus siglas, H.I.M. Con el tiempo la banda abandonó el significado original de estas siglas, generándose controversia sobre su actual significado, negando a su vez, en diversas ocasiones desde su sitio en internet web oficialy en varias entrevistas:
-"En casi todas las entrevistas siempre hay alguien que pregunta qué significa HIM. Ya no recuerdo cuál fue la última mentira que contamos sobre eso. Cuando Hanson estaba de moda, decíamos que significaba Hanson Is Murder (Hanson es un Asesino). El nombre no tiene una historia especial. His Infernal Majesty era un grupo totalmente diferente. Creo que HIM viene de algún chiste death metal. Y fue nuestra forma de protestar contra la religión rastafari de Haile Selassie, ya que solía hacerse llamar His Imperial Majesty (Su Majestad Imperial). Pero hoy en día, por culpa del pelo de Linde deberíamos estar apoyando su causa."
El heartagram es un símbolo en que podemos apreciar lo que es como un Romeo y Julieta seria amor y la muerte como habíamos dicho anteriormente...
Con el lanzamiento del disco Razorblade Romance para el mercado de Estados Unidos, la banda debió cambiar su nombre en este mercado a HER (Her Evil Royalty), por problemas con otra banda ya existente en Estados Unidos que poseía los derechos sobre el nombre de HIM. Luego, la banda compró todos los derechos sobre el nombre y cambió nuevamente a HIM, quedando el disco Razorblade Romance de HER descontinuado.
