Bathory / Black Viking Metal
 

Bathory fue un grupo sueco de heavy metal, formado en Estocolmo en 1983 por Quorthon considerado uno de los pioneros en los géneros del black metal y el viking metal. El nombre del grupo proviene de la "condesa sangrienta": Erzsébet Báthory.

Bathory, Venom, Celtic Frost y Mercyful Fate fueron las bandas más importantes de la primera ola del black metal. Mientras que Venom tuvo el honor de bautizar el nuevo género, a Bathory se le acredita ser el grupo más importante en el desarrollo del black metal y el viking metal.


La historia del grupo terminó en 2004 tras la muerte de Quorthon por un ataque al corazón.
