Exodus was the ninth studio album by Bob Marley and the Wailers and their first release to move away from cryptic storytelling to songs explicitly about change, religious politics and sex. Incorporating elements of blues, soul and British rock and funk with their signature reggae sound, Time magazine named Exodus the best album of the 20th century in 1999.
Recorded in London following an attempt on his life, Exodus shows Bob Marley mellowing a bit. Despite some powerful political tracks, Marley adopts a less fiery, more reflective approach than his previous outings. Still, it's hard to find reggae as good as this. Exodus has all one would expect from a Bob Marley album: rumbling statements like "Exodus" and "The Heathen" as well as poetic love songs like "Turn Your Lights Down Low." Considering how good these tracks are, Exodus does not stop here. Marley also unleashed the huge international hits "Jamming," "Waiting in Vain," and "One Love/People Get Ready." These inspired tracks, perhaps more than any others, came to define Marley around the world. They are irresistible no matter how many times they are played. Never one to dodge innovation, "Exodus" hints that Marley was taking cues from the emerging dub scene. Exodus, even though it contains some of Marley's best work, has an underlying nostalgic feel to it, hinting that Marley was getting a little formulaic.

Live at Donington 1990 is a live album by English hard rock band Whitesnake. It was recorded at Castle Donington on 18 August 1990 during the Monsters of Rock festival, which the band headlined.

A remastered 17 track collection of the band's entire performance, digitally. All of the songs from the performance have been remastered. This new digital collection includes a mix of hits and deep tracks, including "Is This Love" from Whitesnake's multi-platinum self-titled album and the #1 smash "Here I Go Again." There are also four instrumental tracks that feature virtuosic guitar solos including, "Adagio for Strato," "Flying Dutchman Boogie," "For The Love Of God," "The Audience Is Listening" and an explosive drum solo from the extraordinary Tommy Aldridge.

The Killers have never been a band to do things by half, going all the way back to the arch '80s dancefloor drama of their 2004 debut Hot Fuss. Since then, they've evolved into a big-no, big isn't even a big enough word: massive, capacious, monumental-sound that evokes Bono waving the white flag or Springsteen throwing his Telecaster high above his head. Imploding The Mirage continues that grand tradition, with a few intriguing left turns. Opener "My Own Soul's Warning" starts off spacey and loose before breaking into a big, gorgeous keyboard landscape. "But then I thought I could fly/ And when I hit the ground/ It made a messed-up sound," Brandon Flowers wails in his no-rough-edges clarion call. (Applicable adjective: heart-rending.) "Blowback" gallops with horsepower. Lindsey Buckingham delivers showy guitar bombast on "Caution." "Dying Breed" steadily clicks along, factory-like, before kicking through the roof to expose the whole sky. The atmospheric allusions are apropos: The album was made in Flowers' adopted home state of Utah and the singer has said that, while recording, he noticed the "geography matching the sensation" of the music. It's all good, and energizing. But then something unexpected happens with the record. "Lightning Fields" is as huge as what precedes it, but riding a fascinating wave of moodiness and given lift by a k.d. lang guest vocal turn. "Fire in Bone" struts in on a funky bass, while Flowers tries out Talking Heads' new-wave angularity. Songs like "My God" and "When the Dreams Run Dry" show how the band's synth stylings-more prevalent here than in years-have drifted to dreamy new places. And when Flowers dons Bryan Ferry x Springsteen drag for the closing title track, hiccuping lines like "you were out there chewing fat for probable cause," it's damn fun. © Shelly Ridenour/Qobuz
