Según dice Capcom, Dead Rising 2: Off the Record no se puede considerar una expansión, puesto que será más grande que la segunda entrega. Además, entre las novedades destaca la reducción de los tiempos de carga a la mitad y la mejora gráfica para posicionar a más muertos vivientes en pantalla.
Otras novedades jugables importantes son el modo “sandbox”, una forma de jugar sin tiempo límite en el que podremos visitar todo el mapeado cumpliendo misiones y con un final abierto. Tendrá un montón de desafíos que cumplir, cada uno más esperpéntico que el anterior.
