Sinopsis:
Ree Dolly (Lawrence) vive en una zona rural de los montes de Missouri. Es una chica de 17 años que tiene que hacerse cargo de su familia en una situación de extrema precariedad. Su padre Jessup, tras salir de la cárcel en libertad condicional, ha desaparecido misteriosamente y, si no aparece, en pocos días perderán la casa donde Ree vive con su madre enferma y sus dos hermanos pequeños. Encontrar a su padre se convierte entonces para la joven en una cuestión vital.
