Con el término genérico de música celta la industria discográfica, las revistas musicales y los comercios intentan agrupar un conjunto de géneros musicales que comprenden desde la música folk tradicional de las poblaciones de lengua celta del Oeste de Europa hasta la música producida actualmente y que toma aportes rítmicos de ésta. El término corresponde a un nicho de mercado sabiamente identificado por la estrategia de mercadotecnia. El término música celta puede referirse tanto la tradición transmitida oralmente, como a las grabaciones de música popular que sólo tienen una similitud superficial con los estilos populares de los pueblos celtas.


Generalmente, el término se aplica también a la música de Irlanda y Escocia, debido a que ambos países producen una música con estilos bien conocidos y definidos además de ambientes puramente genuinos de este estilo musical. La música de Gales, Cornualles, Isla de Man, Bretaña, Northumbria y, particularmente en España, la música de Galicia, Cantabria y Asturias, asimilada a la corriente principal de la música celta desde la década de 1960


La tradición céltica es fuerte en Bretaña, donde hay numerosos festivales a lo largo del año. Por último, la música celta se ha expandido tanto que puede encontrarse también fuera de Europa. Un ejemplo de ello son Canadá y Estados Unidos.

REELROAD Guliau, guliau (Folk celta ruso)


Son de Rusia hacen folk enraizado por un lado con la tradicción rusa pero con fuertes vínculos con sonidos más celtas.
En ocasiones sus composiciones son festivas e invitan al baile, pero otras te transportan a otros tiempos y te invitan al recogimiento. Gran cantidad de instrumentos se pasean por los temas, el guslie (arpa típica de Rusia) , guitarras, whistles, gaitas, todos ellos soportados por una fuerte base rítmica. La guinda son los cuatro vocalistas

Capercaillie es un veterano grupo escocés de los más renombrados del panorama celta, y ha sido probablemente el único en meter canciones cantadas en gaélico en las listas de ventas y en haberse llevado varios discos de Platino, algo muy raro teniendo en cuenta los orígenes folk de la banda.
