En Yakutsk es tal el frio que se recomienda que los habitantes y visitantes no usen gafas ya que el frio puede hacer que se congelen y esto a su vez se puede adherir a la piel.

Con 1300 habitantes, Verjoyansk es una de las más pequeñas poblaciones rusas que tiene status de ciudad. Muy cerca de allí se encuentra Oimiakon, con una población de 900 habitantes, es tal el frio que los peces se congelan 30 segundos después de ser sacados del río.

Vostok, el lugar más frío del Mundo. Allí se encuentra el Lago Vostoc, donde se cree que hay formas de vida aún desconocidas.
