Coolio (real name Artis Leon Ivey, Jr., B. August 1, 1963) - U.S. (California), hip-hop artist, known mainly thanks to the album «Gangsta's Paradise» (1995), which is considered a classic gangster rap mid-1990s. One of the few rappers who have college education. "I do not use general phrases. I'll be damned, if given the chance to apply to the millions of people who can not find the words to which would be worth considering." The title track from the album, based on the well-known funk tune of Stevie Wonder «Pastime Paradise» and containing borrowings from Psalm 23, was heard in the film "Dangerous Thoughts", came in first place in 13 countries, became the biggest selling single of the year in the U.S. and was awarded the "Grammy" for best rap solo performance. It was the first rap song in history, who took first place in the UK charts. The extraordinary success of the singles was the first sign that gangster rap is gaining popularity outside the U.S..
