La historia comienza cuando añorando aquellos días en los que se sentía como un “verdadero ogro”, Shrek es embaucado por Rumpelstiltskin para firmar un contrato, que le dejará atrapado en una retorcida y alternativa versión de Muy Muy Lejano. El malvado Rumpelstiltskin reina en este mundo paralelo, donde los ogros son perseguidos y Shrek y Fiona nunca han llegado a conocerse.

En esta aventura gráfica, los jugadores tendrán que restaurar el mundo de Shrek y recuperar a los amigos y al verdadero amor del ogro más famoso de la animación resolviendo desafiantes puzzles y enfrentándose a nuevos enemigos a medida que progresan en su aventura. El juego dispondrá de un modo multijugador cooperativo y la opción de elegir a cualquiera de los cuatro protagonistas en el modo 'single player'.
