Gramalote fue un pueblito ubicado en el Departamento de Norte de Santander (Colombia). Contaba con una población de 5.900 habitantes. Fue fundado hace 150 años, en un terreno con un relieve montañoso, fuertemente quebrado y escarpado.
Desde el mes de diciembre de 2010 una combinación de movimientos sísmicos y un deslave causado por las fuertes lluvias destruyó Gramalote hasta el extremo de desaparecer del mapa.


La causa del desastre se originó por la fragmentación del suelo que cedió ante la saturación del terreno y el peso acumulado del agua. Los cerros se deslizaron con tal magnitud que enterró al barrio Nueva Granada.

Centenares de personas tuvieron que abandonar sus casas, en busca de un lugar más seguro para poder vivir. Las imágenes son realmente tristes

Largas filas de vehículos y de personas que esperaban ser rescatadas, se amontonaron a la entrada del pueblo.
La oportuna evacuación de los habitantes de Gramalote, sin duda alguna, evitó una tragedia mayor. Gramalote es ahora un pueblo fantasma.
