Powerman 5000, también conocido como PM5K, es una banda de rock (http://www.denunciando.com/wiki/M%C3%BAsica_rock) formada en 1991 en Boston (http://www.denunciando.com/wiki/Boston). Su líder es Spider One, hermano del cantante Rob Zombie (http://www.denunciando.com/wiki/Rob_Zombie)
Los primeros años, Powerman 5000 fue una banda muy parecida en su estética a las películas de horror de principios del siglo XX, monstruos, extraterrestres, fin de mundo y trajes galácticos. Obtuvieron éxito inmediato. Su disco Tonight the Stars Revolt! fue el punto más alto de popularidad.
Todo estaba listo para su segundo álbum (con una disquera importante) “Anyone For Doomsday?”, el cual repetía con mayor pesimismo, desesperanza y trajes galácticos, el éxito del disco anterior. Pero a días de su lanzamiento, Spider One se transformó. El lanzamiento de uno de los discos más esperados se canceló. Spider One perdió muchas cosas: Un disco bien producido con buenos temas (que luego, años después, sacaría en edición limitada), dos integrantes decepcionados y sobre todo una amplia legión de fans.
Spider One se convenció de que el pesimismo y el derrotismo como estética y estilo de vida no lo iba a llevar a ninguna parte, y entonces, reclutando a nuevos músicos (entre ellos a Mike Tempesta), y al productor Joe Barresi (Kyuss, The Melvins, Queens of the Stone Age, The Jesús Lizard y Tool), se encerró a grabar un disco que, sin dejar de lado el cinismo, humor negro y sarcasmo, le diera a la realidad su justa medida.
El resultado fue Transform, un disco más punk-rock, con mayor energía y guitarras y con menor asistencia de Synths. Spider One no pierde rudeza a través de letras mucho más realistas que extremistas.
