AKB48 es un grupo japonés de cantantes femeninas (Idols) producido por Yasushi Akimoto. AKB48 actualmente consiste en 48 chicas divididas en tres equipos: Team A, Team K y Team B. Cada uno se compone de 16 miembros. Al contrario que otros grupos de idols en Japón, AKB48 tiene su base en un teatro, situado en Akihabara (un distrito de Tokio), donde actuan varias veces a la semana. El teatro se encuentra en la octava planta del Edificio Comercial Don Quixote. Su Nombre es un Juego de Palabras que proviene de AKiBa (AKB), que hace mencion a Akihabara y el 48 se menciona en Ingles(Forty-Eight) o Japonés (Yon Yuu Jachi). Su pronunciación en Español es (Ei Ki Bi yon yu jachi)
