Morbid Angel es un grupo de death metal procedente de Florida, Estados Unidos. Es considerada como banda pionera dentro del estilo junto a bandas como Death, Vader, Deicide, Obituary, Possessed y Cannibal Corpse. Fue formada en 1983.

Trey Azagthoth junto a Mike Browning y David Vincent comienzan un grupo musical llamado Morbid Angel con el disco Abominations of Desolation, pero este no sería sacado hasta varios años más tarde, por lo que su primer disco oficial es Altars of Madness, editado en 1989, que con sus guitarras y la voz de Vincent lo hicieron un sonido nuevo y llamativo dentro del estilo.
Luego vendrían trabajos como Blessed are the Sick en 1991 y Covenant en 1993. Morbid Angel fue la primera banda de death metal que firmaba con una discográfica importante al hacer Covenant.
Domination se convirtió en su obra capital y en uno de los discos pilares de un género que ya empezaba a agotarse, expandiendo y fundamentando todo aquello que antes habían realizado.
Formulas Fatal to the Flesh supuso el regreso a un sonido menos técnico y más primitivo y brutal, seguido por Gateways to Annihilation, integrando nuevos tipos de voces y guitarras. Aunque la formación ha tenido varios cambios al pasar los años, el sonido de Morbid Angel no ha presentado gran variación.
Como dato curioso, el nombre de sus discos están ordenados por orden alfabético según la fecha de creación, además en el disco Formulas Fatal To The Flesh tiene tres letras F que significa 666 ya que la letra F es la sexta en el abecedario.

Un par de cosas (no es por criticar, es solo que esta es de mis bandas preferidas),el Abominations Of Desolation es un demo, actualmente en el bajo y voz principal esta David Vincent y en la segunda guitarra Thor Anders Myhren, Trey realmente no canta, solo en un tema que esta gravado totalmente con el como vocalista.

También falto el Love of lava, un CD bonus con algunos de los mejores solos de Trey
