Kiss

Kiss, es una banda de hard rock estadounidense formada en la ciudad de Nueva York en el año 1973. Se caracterizó por el uso de maquillaje al más puro estilo Kabuki con personajes de terror o típica historia de cómic y su puesta en escena extravagante. Mientras otros artistas como Alice Cooper y David Bowie representaban el rock de una manera teatral, Kiss fueron aún más lejos en la vertiente circense y autoparódica del rock. En base a sus actuaciones vivas detalladas en el espectáculo destacado, escupiendo sangre, las guitarras que humean, y diversas pirotécnias, Kiss fue todo un fenomeno de ventas y popularidad en los '70, revolucionando los espectaculos de Rock, siendo considerada la banda más popular de EE.UU. en esta decada. Kiss es la única banda de Rock que ha facturado discos de oro en todos sus álbumes en EE.UU., vendiendo sólo en EE.UU. más de 100 millones de álbumes, en el mundo sus ventas superan los 200 millones de álbumes.

La banda original estaba conformada por Gene Simmons (bajo y voz), Paul Stanley (guitarra rítmica y voz), Ace Frehley (guitarra lider y voz) y Peter Criss (batería y voz). Con su composición y trajes, ellos asumieron los personajes de El Demonio (Simmons), el Chico De Las Estrellas (Stanley), el As Espacial (Frehley), y el Hombre Gato (Criss). Debido a los problemas de abuso de substancias y diferencias con los líderes, Criss, abandonó Kiss en 1980 durante la grabación del álbum "Lick It Up" y Frehley estaba fuera del grupo en 1982. Las ventas comerciales de la banda también habían menguado considerablemente por ese punto.

Su estilo no tenía nada que ver con lo que se hacía en los '70, década en que lanzaron su primer álbum, pues dejaron atrás las raíces folk que muchos grupos desarrollaban. Tampoco hacían progresivo, enterraron el espíritu hippie que aún tenían muchas bandas, cambiándolo por un sonido crudo y de mucha distorsión, además de potente junto con coros que se hicieron himnos para sus fans. Kiss en ese momento tenia un estilo musical híbrido, con un sonido entre el heavy metal y rock & roll. Con bases rítmicas muy cercanas al Jazz de forma acelerada por parte del batero Criss y de un pasional y crudo estilo por parte de Frehley, Kiss emanaba una energía brutal en su música.
El éxito para el grupo viene con su disco doble en vivo Alive!, producido por Eddie Kramer en 1975, que obtiene 4 discos de platino y frecuentemente citado como uno de los mejores discos de rock en vivo de todos los tiempos.
En 1976 lanzaron Destroyer, donde evolucionaron desarrollando el estilo Glam que los caracterizaría el resto de su carrera, pues sus canciones simples y melódicas fueron acompañados de un sonido más potente y hasta orquestal bajo la producción de Bob Ezrin, y con la conducción orquestal de Michael Kamen, incluso lanzaron su primer hit comercial "Beth", una balada cantada por Peter Criss. Este disco contiene canciones que serán recordadas durante toda su carrera.
Después vienen otros álbumes: Rock'n'Roll Over, Love Gun y Alive II. Estos discos y sus actuaciones tan espectaculares en vivo (las cuales incluyen explosiones, humo, fuego, pirotecnia, sangre, plataformas que se elevan, etc.) los hacen ganar reputación como una de las mejores bandas de rock en vivo.

En 1978 cada uno de los integrantes lanzan sus discos solistas, siendo el disco de Ace Frehley el que tuvo "los mejores resultados" de los cuatro. En 1979 lanzan Dynasty, el cual incluía "I Was Made for Lovin' You", Después de la gira correspondiente y argumentando "no estar contento dentro del grupo", Peter Criss abandona la banda; aun cuando Criss aparece en el video promocional de "Shandi", canción incluida en su siguiente disco: Unmasked. El sustituto es Eric Carr. Su debut es en el Palladium, en Nueva York. La banda decide que por las bajas ventas de Unmasked dentro de los Estados Unidos, y los deseos de sus fanáticos del resto del mundo por verlos, hacer una gira europea y australiana ese año. Al año siguiente graban Music From The Elder un álbum conceptual, este producido por Bob Ezrin. Después de esto y descontento por el estilo musical al cual se estaba dirigiendo el grupo Ace Frehley decide abandonar la banda. Como sustituto de Frehley entra Vinnie Vincent.
El siguiente disco es Creatures Of The Night, en el cual Kiss recupera un poco de sus raíces más rockeras clásicas teniendo más éxito que en sus últimos dos discos. El 25 de junio de 1983, en el estadio Morumbi en São Paulo, Brasil, KISS hace su último concierto con maquillaje donde tocaron ante 601.000 personas hasta la gira de reunión en 1996.

KISS comenzó la grabación del siguiente disco, en este tiempo Vinnie Vincent deja la banda , para luego formar Vinnie Vincent Invasion y se une Mark St. John. Animalize es el disco que sigue, el cual fue producido por Paul Stanley y solidificó la popularidad de KISS con la generación MTV. Producida por el super hit "Heaven's On Fire". St. John fue forzado a retirarse de la banda durante el Animalize Tour a causa de una enfermedad en las manos (sindrome de Reiter) y, para continuar la gira, se usó como remplazo a Bruce Kulick, quien pasaría a ser el 4to guitarrista líder en la historia de la banda. Luego vienen Asylum y Crazy Nights, discos que continúan con el estilo que ha llevado la banda en los '80s. Estos discos incluyen hits como Tears Are Falling, Uh! All Night, Crazy Crazy Nights y Reason To Live. Canciones que marcaron una época en la historia de KISS. Después en el año 1989, grabaron el disco Hot In The Shade , el cual incluye la balada "Forever" y el hit "Hide Your Heart" luego llega el disco Revenge del año 1992, que tiene un sonido más fuerte que los últimos discos de KISS y que además contó con la presencia de Eric Singer en la batería reemplazando al fallecido Eric Carr.

Al año siguiente hacen la gira de reunión "Alive Worldwide Reunion Tour", con la cual recorren países en los cuales nunca habían tocado, lo imposible había sucedido. Esta etapa la llamaron "The Lost Cities". Luego en 1998 editan el disco Psycho Circus, pero sus ventas no eran las esperadas. La última gira de la banda se llamó "Rock The Nation", con la cual recorrieron Estados Unidos, Canadá y México. Tocaron por primera vez en el Pop Corn Club. En dicha gira sacaron a la venta el álbum en vivo Kiss Symphony: Alive IV, con la orquesta sinfónica de Melbourne.
"Kiss Symphony: Alive IV" incluye canciones que nunca se habían tocado tales como "Shandi" del disco "Unmasked" con el ensamble de la sinfónica, y "Great Expectations" del disco "Destroyer".
En 2005 salió el DVD titulado "KISS Rock The Nation Live" que es una recopilación de los conciertos de su ultima gira "Rock The Nation" en New Jersey y Washington que incluye entre otras canciones "Tears are Falling", "She" que incluye el solo que Ace Frehley tocara en el disco "Alive!", "Christine Sixteen", "I Want You" "Parasite", "War Machine", "Makin' Love" entre otras; en palabras del grupo: "La gira se basa en tocar canciones que los fans quieren escuchar y que no hemos tocado nunca o por más de 25 años".
En junio de 2006 recibieron un homenaje por parte del canal VH1 junto con Queen, Def Leppard y Judas Priest, titulado "VH1 ROCK HONORS" donde Rob Zombie, Slash, Gilby Clarke, Tommy Lee, Scott Ian y Ace Frehley rindieron homenaje a KISS con una versión de "God Of Thunder" que raya en lo metalero.
El 31 de Octubre salió a la venta "KISSology - The Ultimate KISS Collection Vol. 1 1974-1977", una caja con 2 DVD (y un DVD extra, que varía dependiendo donde habías comprado el DVD). En este DVD podemos ver desde una presentación en el Coventry en 1973, hasta un show sin maquillaje del año 1976, para la boda de Ace Frehley. En conclusión, cantidades de rarezas, todas en una sola caja, y con la bendición de Gene Simmons, quien ha prometido que en los próximos 6 a 8 meses verá la luz el Volúmen 2, en el cual ya están trabajando.

Pero los KISS nunca descansan, el 21 de noviembre de 2006 se lanzó la caja "Alive 1974 - 2000" que incluye los 3 Alive's remasterizados, (el "Alive III" remasterizado por primera vez), más el Alive IV "The Millenium Concert", grabado en Vancouver 1999, que originalmente se iba a lanzar cuando el grupo anunció el Farewell Tour, allá por el año 2000, pero que al final por decisiones de la discográfica, nunca se lanzó al mercado.

El grupo Kiss, (cuyo acrónimo era Knights in Satan Service, caballeros al servicio de satán, esto fué inventado como burla a ciertos grupos puritanos estadounidenses que veían y siguen viendo en el rock un instrumento de Satanás), se forma en 1973 en Nueva York, de las cenizas de un grupo llamado Wicked Lester. Es ideado por Chaim Witz quien cambia su nombre a Eugene Kleim, más conocido como Gene Simmons.
Luego de varias discusiones y de conocer diferencias, llegan a ser los mejores amigos; más tarde ponen un anuncio en la revista Rolling Stone, buscando baterista y se les une Peter George John Crisscuola Peter Criss. Finalmente por otro anuncio en "The Village Voice", Ace Frehley se presenta a una audición de la banda en la cual él es el elegido. Firman para Casablanca Records y graban 3 discos de estudio KISS, Hotter Than Hell y Dressed To Kill.
Su estilo no tenía nada que ver con lo que se hacía en los '70, década en que lanzaron su primer álbum, pues dejaron atrás las raíces folk que muchos grupos desarrollaban. Tampoco hacían rock progresivo, enterraron el espíritu hippie que aún tenían muchas bandas, cambiándolo por un sonido crudo y de mucha distorsión, además de potente junto con coros que se hicieron himnos para sus fans. Kiss en ese momento tenía un estilo musical híbrido, con un sonido entre el heavy metal y rock & roll. Con bases rítmicas muy cercanas al Jazz de forma acelerada por parte de Peter Criss y de un pasional y crudo estilo por parte de Frehley, Kiss emanaba una energía brutal en su música.
FAMA MUNDIAL
El éxito para el grupo viene con su disco doble en vivo Alive!, producido por Eddie Kramer en 1975, que obtiene 4 discos de platino y es frecuentemente citado como uno de los mejores discos de rock en vivo de todos los tiempos.
En 1976 lanzaron Destroyer, donde evolucionaron desarrollando el estilo Glam que los caracterizaría el resto de su carrera, pues sus canciones simples y melódicas fueron acompañados de un sonido más potente y hasta orquestal bajo la producción de Bob Ezrin, y con la conducción orquestal de Michael Kamen, incluso lanzaron su primer hit comercial: "Beth", una balada cantada por Peter Criss. Este disco contiene canciones que frecuentemente son tocadas en vivo.
Después vienen los discos Rock And Roll Over, Love Gun y Alive II. Estos discos y sus actuaciones tan espectaculares en vivo (las cuales incluyen explosiones, humo, fuego, pirotecnia, sangre, plataformas que se elevan, etc.) los hacen ganar reputación de mejor banda de rock en directo.
En 1978 cada uno de los integrantes lanzan sus discos solistas, siendo el disco de Ace Frehley el que tuvo "los mejores resultados" de los cuatro.
EXPERIMENTACION
En 1979 lanzan Dynasty, el cual incluía "I Was Made for Lovin' You", el éxito comercial mas grande de la historia de la banda y con una muy notoria influencia de la Música disco. Después de la gira correspondiente y argumentando "no estar contento dentro del grupo", Peter Criss abandona la banda; aún cuando aparece en el video promocional de "Shandi", canción incluida en su siguiente disco: Unmasked. El sustituto es el baterista Eric Carr. Su debut es en el Palladium, en Nueva York. La banda decide que por las bajas ventas de Unmasked dentro de los Estados Unidos, y los deseos de sus fanáticos del resto del mundo por verlos, realizar una gira europea y australiana ese año.
Al año siguiente graban Music From The Elder, un álbum conceptual, producido nuevamente por Bob Ezrin. Un disco en el que KISS quiere por encima de todo regresar a sus raices rockeras y que quizas lo convirtio en un disco de menor calidad que el resto debido a la rapidez con la que se hizo y a la desesperacion de KISS por salir de su catalogacion de "banda de POP" que tuvieron por aquel entonces,aun asi hay varios hits que aun se recuerdan en la actualidad,tales como la increible balada "World Without Heroes" "Only You" o "The Oath".Este disco tambien supuso el fin de Ace Frehley en las labores de produccion de KISS,debido a su turbia relacion con el alcohol y sus constantes faltas a las grabaciones KISS y el mismo Frehley decidieron que lo mejor era que al menos de momento dejase la banda,su sustituto fue Vinnie Vincent.
En 1982 graban Creatures Of The Night,un disco plagado de exitos,tales como la unica "I Love It Loud",la preciosa "I Still Love You",la atronadora "War Machine" y por supuesto el megahit que puso nombre al disco,la metalera "Creatures Of The Night" . El 25 de junio de 1983, en el estadio Morumbí en São Paulo, Brasil, KISS hace su último concierto con maquillaje, donde tocaron ante nada mas y nada menos que 601.000 personas.Este disco supuso el fin completo de Ace Frehley en KISS,que irremediablemente tuvo que continuar con el autodestructor pero simplemente grandioso Vinnie Vincent .
ACTUALIDAD
En 2005 salió al mercado el DVD titulado "KISS Rock The Nation Live" que es una recopilación de los conciertos de su ultima gira "Rock The Nation" en Nueva Jersey y Washington, que incluye entre otras canciones "Tears are Falling", "She" (que incluye el solo que Ace Frehley tocara en el disco "Alive!"), "Christine Sixteen", "I Want You" "Parasite", "War Machine", "Makin' Love" entre otras; en palabras del grupo: La gira se basa en tocar canciones que los fans quieren escuchar y que no hemos tocado nunca o por más de 25 años.
En junio de 2006 recibieron un homenaje por parte del canal VH1 junto con Queen, Def Leppard y Judas Priest, titulado "VH1 ROCK HONORS" donde Rob Zombie, Slash, Gilby Clarke, Tommy Lee, Scott Ian y Ace Frehley rindieron homenaje a KISS con una versión de "God Of Thunder" que raya en lo metalero.
El 31 de octubre del mismo año salió a la venta "KISSology - The Ultimate KISS Collection Vol. 1 1974-1977", una caja con 2 DVD (y un DVD extra en algunas versiones). En este DVD podemos ver desde una presentación en el Coventry en 1973, hasta un show sin maquillaje del año 1976, para la boda de Ace Frehley.
El 21 de noviembre de 2006 se lanzó la caja "Alive 1974 - 2000" que incluye los 3 Alive's remasterizados, (el "Alive III" remasterizado por primera vez), más el Alive IV "The Millenium Concert", grabado en Vancouver en 1999, que originalmente se iba a lanzar cuando el grupo anunció el Farewell Tour en el 2000, pero que al final por decisiones de la discográfica, nunca se lanzó al mercado.
Durante el 2007, Kiss solo hizo algunos shows en vivo, resaltando el de Soboba Casino, del 27 de Julio, donde la banda actúa como trio por segunda vez en su historia y no por primera vez como algunos medios han señalado erróneamente, a petición del público, consultado por la misma banda, debido a que Paul Stanley presentó un cuadro de aceleramiento del pulso cardíaco, siendo sometido a una resucitación, previa parada del corazón realizada por los médicos para poder restablecer el ritmo adecuado. Kiss había tocado como trio en la época de The Elder (1981) en Europa, más precisamente en San Remo en Italia debido a un accidente de Ace Frehley, que le impidió presentarse junto a la banda para promocionar el disco. En 2008, Kiss se embarca en un nuevo gran Tour Mundial, que comenzó en Australia el 1 de Marzo, en el marco de lo que fue el puntapié inicial a la Fórmula 1 en Melbourne, tocando por primera vez al aire libre en el país de Oceanía, ante más de 50.000 mil personas. Es la cuarta vez que toca al aire libre en Australia (previo Inner Sanctum Sydney 1980 (x2), Melbourne Lang Park (1980), sin mencionar Nueva Zelaqnda donde toco en estadios al aire libre en 1980 y en 2008. Asimismo este Tour Mundial denominado Alive 35 en alusión a los 35 años de Kiss, está confirmado oficialmente por la banda como el más exitoso de todos los hechos por Europa en la historia de la banda, donde, junto a los conciertos de Australia y Nueva Zelandia, ya son unos 35 shows confirmados, faltando luego, seguramente, Japón, Usa, México, Sudamérica y otros lugares.
El grupo Kiss, (cuyo acrónimo era Knights in Satan Service, caballeros al servicio de satán, esto fué inventado como burla a ciertos grupos puritanos estadounidenses que veían y siguen viendo en el rock un instrumento de Satanás), se forma en 1973 en Nueva York, de las cenizas de un grupo llamado Wicked Lester. Es ideado por Chaim Witz quien cambia su nombre a Eugene Kleim, más conocido como Gene Simmons.
Luego de varias discusiones y de conocer diferencias, llegan a ser los mejores amigos; más tarde ponen un anuncio en la revista Rolling Stone, buscando baterista y se les une Peter George John Crisscuola Peter Criss. Finalmente por otro anuncio en "The Village Voice", Ace Frehley se presenta a una audición de la banda en la cual él es el elegido. Firman para Casablanca Records y graban 3 discos de estudio KISS, Hotter Than Hell y Dressed To Kill.
Su estilo no tenía nada que ver con lo que se hacía en los '70, década en que lanzaron su primer álbum, pues dejaron atrás las raíces folk que muchos grupos desarrollaban. Tampoco hacían rock progresivo, enterraron el espíritu hippie que aún tenían muchas bandas, cambiándolo por un sonido crudo y de mucha distorsión, además de potente junto con coros que se hicieron himnos para sus fans. Kiss en ese momento tenía un estilo musical híbrido, con un sonido entre el heavy metal y rock & roll. Con bases rítmicas muy cercanas al Jazz de forma acelerada por parte de Peter Criss y de un pasional y crudo estilo por parte de Frehley, Kiss emanaba una energía brutal en su música.
FAMA MUNDIAL
El éxito para el grupo viene con su disco doble en vivo Alive!, producido por Eddie Kramer en 1975, que obtiene 4 discos de platino y es frecuentemente citado como uno de los mejores discos de rock en vivo de todos los tiempos.
En 1976 lanzaron Destroyer, donde evolucionaron desarrollando el estilo Glam que los caracterizaría el resto de su carrera, pues sus canciones simples y melódicas fueron acompañados de un sonido más potente y hasta orquestal bajo la producción de Bob Ezrin, y con la conducción orquestal de Michael Kamen, incluso lanzaron su primer hit comercial: "Beth", una balada cantada por Peter Criss. Este disco contiene canciones que frecuentemente son tocadas en vivo.
Después vienen los discos Rock And Roll Over, Love Gun y Alive II. Estos discos y sus actuaciones tan espectaculares en vivo (las cuales incluyen explosiones, humo, fuego, pirotecnia, sangre, plataformas que se elevan, etc.) los hacen ganar reputación de mejor banda de rock en directo.
En 1978 cada uno de los integrantes lanzan sus discos solistas, siendo el disco de Ace Frehley el que tuvo "los mejores resultados" de los cuatro.
EXPERIMENTACION
En 1979 lanzan Dynasty, el cual incluía "I Was Made for Lovin' You", el éxito comercial mas grande de la historia de la banda y con una muy notoria influencia de la Música disco. Después de la gira correspondiente y argumentando "no estar contento dentro del grupo", Peter Criss abandona la banda; aún cuando aparece en el video promocional de "Shandi", canción incluida en su siguiente disco: Unmasked. El sustituto es el baterista Eric Carr. Su debut es en el Palladium, en Nueva York. La banda decide que por las bajas ventas de Unmasked dentro de los Estados Unidos, y los deseos de sus fanáticos del resto del mundo por verlos, realizar una gira europea y australiana ese año.
