La guerra contra el narcotráfico en México es el nombre que se ha dado al conjunto de operativos del Estado mexicano dirigidos a eliminar el narcotráfico en ese país norteamericano. Dichas acciones dieron inicio en diciembre de 2006 y consistieron en uno de los primeros actos de Felipe Calderón Hinojosa en la Presidencia de México. La estrategia adoptada por el gobierno federal mexicano consiste principalmente en el uso de las fuerzas de seguridad —Policía Federal, Marina, Ejército— para reprimir por la fuerza a los cárteles mexicanos de tráfico de drogas ilícitas.
Si bien las organizaciones ilícitas de tráfico de drogas existieron desde décadas atrás en México (Véase Historia del narcotráfico en México), fue en los años 1990 cuando cobraron importancia debido al cese de operaciones de los cárteles colombianos de Cali y Medellín. Los cárteles mexicanos dominan actualmente la totalidad del mercado de drogas en Estados Unidos. Los arrestos de algunos líderes importantes de los cárteles particularmente de los de Tijuana y del Golfo, y la gran militarización del territorio mexicano han provocado una respuesta violenta por parte de las organizaciones criminales.[14][15] Hasta 2010 se reportan cerca de 30,000 asesinatos ocasionadas por la guerra contra el narco, de los cuales un número importante corresponde a los asesinatos cometidos en Ciudad Juárez (Chihuahua). La estadística incluye —además de las bajas de los cuerpos armados federales y de las bandas de narcotraficantes— a civiles sin nexos con el narcotráfico, jóvenes, niños y periodistas.
La estrategia adoptada por el gobierno mexicano en su lucha contra el crimen organizado ha tenido detractores. Numerosas organizaciones civiles han reclamado que la presencia del Ejército en las calles ha coincidido con un aumento en el número de violaciones a los derechos humanos; al tiempo que la Comisión Nacional de los Derechos Humanos (CNDH) ha alertado sobre el aumento de quejas recibidas por esta cuestión
