No. No es un T-1000 adoptando la forma de Bart Simpson, ni este último como protagonista de la promo de una nueva cinta de Terminator. Aunque pareciera ser la polialeación mimética que hizo famosa Robert Patrick en “Terminator 2: El juicio final” como queriendo partir a un casting con Matt Groening, no es más (ni menos) que parte del genial trabajo del bioquímico y fotógrafo Linden Gledhill con ferrofluidos.
Estos líquidos ferrosos son mezclas coloidales, donde una sustancia ferromagnética se distribuye de manera pareja en un fluido portador, polarizándose al ser expuesto ante un campo magnético y haciendo que las partículas suspendidas magneticen todo el fluido. En este caso, es una aleación de neodimio (que contiene hierro y boro).
Los ferrofluidos, más allá de verse espectaculares en estas imágenes donde se le agrega gel de colores, están siendo utilizados en tratamientos experimentales contra el cáncer, llamados hipertermia magnética, además de ser la base de un nuevo tipo de lentes telescópicos que cambian de forma.
