La rueda de la vida
En primer lugar, aviso de que las fotografías de este post pueden herir la sensibilidad de algunas personas, si eres una de ellas te recomiendo no verlas. En ellas se puede ver resumidamente la secuencia de entierro típico tibetano, o como lo suelen llamar ellos, un entierro en el cielo.

Los tibetanos, ya sea por necesidad o por creencias, no entierran ni incineran a sus difuntos, a excepción de los menores de 18 años, las mujeres embarazadas y los muertos por alguna enfermedad infecciosa, el resto son entregados en las altas cumbres a las aves carroñeras. Los buitres, “daikinis”, son los ángeles que bailan entres las nubes y serán los encargados de perpetuar el ciclo de la vida, de igual modo que lo hacen con el resto de especies con las que compartimos nuestro planeta.

Considerando que los tibetanos creen en la reencarnación, el cuerpo del fallecido es considerado por ellos como un contenedor vacío y sin ningún valor espiritual.

Cuando alguien fallece, durante tres días los monjes lamas rezan sus cantos con los pasajes “del libro de los muertos”, ayudando al alma del fallecido a cruzar los 49 niveles del “bardo”, estado intermedio que precede a la reencarnación en la rueda de la vida. Una vez concluido esto, los familiares se reúnen en algún lugar de las montañas alejado. El oficiante del ritual, con un cuchillo muy afilado, corta la carne y los músculos del fallecido antes de dejar que los buitres se abalancen sobre él, para que su labor sea más rápida y sencilla. En breves minutos, todos los tejidos blandos desaparecen y los blancos huesos quedan esparcidos sobre varios metros cuadrados. En ese momento, todos los restos vuelven a ser recogidos y, sobre una roca, con hacha y cuchillo, vuelven a ser triturados y mezclados con una harina llamada “tsampa” y, de nuevo, es entregada a los buitres, que ésta vez no dejarán absolutamente nada, dando por terminada su función y volviendo a elevarse hasta las nubes.

El funeral ha concluido y todos vuelven a sus hogares.
