La Antártica es un continente muy complicado para instalar edificios: está lleno de hielo, hay viento, hace muchísimo frío. Las condiciones son extremas y el paisaje, limpio y blanco. Así, la arquitectura antártica tiene algunas particularidades especiales, que hacen que sus edificios sean lo más parecido a las bases lunares del futuro, pero en la Tierra.
En un principio, los exploradores instalaron chozas de madera, sin embargo, al poco tiempo se dieron cuenta de que necesitaban algo más resistente – lo que terminó con la creación de cosas raras que parecen naves espaciales, aunque detrás de las formas raras hay siempre un objetivo, que es la funcionalidad.
