El ataque de Pearl harbor

La Marina Imperial Japonesa lanzó su ataque a Pearl Harbor en la mañana del 7 de diciembre de 1941. El ataque sorpresa a Pearl Harbor, en la isla de Oahu en Hawai, fue dirigido a la Flota del Pacífico de la Marina de los Estados Unidos y las fuerzas aéreas que defendían la zona.

El ataque dañó o destruyó trece buques de guerra y 188 aeronaves, dejó a 2.403 militares y 68 ciudadanos estadounidenses muertos. El Almirante Isoroku Yamamoto planeó el ataque como el inicio de la Campaña del Pacífico de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, que fue dirigido por el vicealmirante Chuichi Nagumo, quien perdió a 64 militares. Sin embargo, los tres portaaviones estadounidenses de la Flota del Pacífico no estaban en el puerto y por lo tanto no fueron dañados. Estados Unidos tardó en recuperarse entre seis meses a un año. La opinión pública estadounidense vio el ataque como un acto de traición y se unió fuertemente en contra del Imperio Japonés, que salió victorioso en la acción, aunque finalmente resultó derrotado en 1945.

Para referirse al ataque se pueden utilizar también los nombres de Bombardeo de Pearl Harbor y Batalla de Pearl Harbor pero lo más común es Ataque a Pearl Harbor o simplemente Pearl Harbor.
