El 6 de agosto de 1945, el superbombardero B-29 llamado Enola Gay lanza sobre Hiroshima - definida por el presidente Truman como "importante base japonesa"- la primera bomba atómica de la historia, causando 74.000 muertos directos y varias decenas de miles más por los efectos radioactivos de "little boy". Tres dias más tarde el nuevo objetivo es Nagasaki, con los mismos efectos devastadores.
