102 x 87 km, a una altitud media de unos 2400 metros sobre el nivel del mar - Yellowstone - el parque nacional de EE.UU. , fundado en 1872, después que el presidente Ulysses S. Grant firmó el decreto pertinente - uno de los cuatro lugares de la tierra con mayor cantidad de géiseres activos. Los tres restantes están en Nueva Zelanda, Islandia y en la península de Kamchatka.
