The Walking Dead cuenta la historia de las secuelas de un apocalipsis zombi, siguiendo a un pequeño grupo de supervivientes que viajan a través de Estados Unidos en busca de un nuevo hogar, lejos de las hordas de zombis. Tras despertar de un coma en un hospital abandonado, el oficial de policía Rick Grimes se da cuenta de que el mundo que conocía no existe, está ahora devastado por una epidemia zombi de proporciones apocalípticas. A las afueras de Atlanta, un pequeño campamento lucha por sobrevivir mientras los muertos-vivientes los acechan a cada momento. Dicho grupo, guiado por Shane Walsh (interpretado por Jon Bernthal) cambia su liderazgo cuando el ya dado por muerto Rick Grimes aparece de la nada. Mientras su situación se vuelve más y más sombría, la desesperación del grupo por sobrevivir les obliga a hacer cosas que en su vida anterior a la plaga zombi no se habrían imaginado hacer jamás.
