Nacido durante la Gran Depresión, Steve Rogers creció como un chico frágil en una familia pobre. Horrorizado por los noticiarios sobre los Nazis en Europa, Rogers desea ante todo enrolarse en el ejército. Sin embargo, por su debilidad, es rechazado una y otra vez. Escuchando las súplicas del chico, el General Chester Phillips ofrece a Rogers la oportunidad de tomar parte de un experimento especial. Operación: Renacimiento. Primero le administran el “Suero Super-Soldado” y le bombardean con “vita-rayos”. De este tratamiento Steve sale con un cuerpo tan perfecto como puede llegar a serlo un cuerpo sin dejar de ser humano. Posteriormente, es sometido a un intensivo programa de entrenamiento físico y táctico. Tres meses después, recibe su primera misión como Capitán América. Armado con su escudo indestructible y su inteligencia para la batalla, el Capitán América continúa su guerra contra el mal, como centinela de la libertad y como líder de los Vengadores.
